The deepest shafts of Utah's metaliferous mines were between 1500 oand 2000 feet deep. The deepest Mine in the state is 1200 Mtrs and is the open cast pit at Brigham. The only two mile deep shaft in the world is in South Africa and even that is in two stages.
@briansmobile1 Mining engineering is my hobby although I do a bit of consultancy for my Government.
I was very privileged to have been given the opportunity to visit Utah about 15 years ago. I stayed in Logan. loved the place and the people. Never have I experienced such friendship and hospitality wherever I went.
Many folk showed me around various parts and Mine sites were high on the list :-)
@petermines That's pretty cool. I visited Scotland and England in 2009 and enjoyed my stay there. There is SO much history there. I particularly liked my visit to the castles on Loc Ness
It's just outside the great town of Eureka UT. It's atop a majestic pile of tailings 50 yards from the highway. This air shaft is often referred to as "Satans Anus". Charming indeed.
Some of my friends have been here and done this. They can't remember how to get there. Where is this on google maps? Isnt down past spanish fork or something?

@brybrybailey123 It's just outside of Eureka on the north side of the highway. I haven't noticed an elevator though.
