Makes me want to make another epic Space Rock Song of my own! I will call it Wind Hawk.
It will be about the spaces of currents that are separated by heat, and magnetism...the flowing vibrations of the golden dews of conductivity, in a constant vacuum. Yeah, that's it.
I was there when this was recorded - a crazy Sunday night at the Roundhouse (weren't they all?). It's fascinating to read Lemmy's recollection of the event in the Q Classic magazine ' Pink Floyd & The Story Of Prog Rock' from a few years back. I've never heard of so many illegal substances being taken by a band before a gig.... and still managing to play!
This was Hawkwind at the top of their form-Lemmy,Brock,Turner,.DikMik,King,.....It was never so good again-have got a copy of `Gagarin` only works when you are tripping-this works every time........
I was there and it was a great gig apart from the power cut. I recall that we were totally off our heads and then it all went down and it was ok for a bit and then we got thrown out. Great talking about it at school the next day though. Man were superb as were Hawkwind - BS were so so.
saw a few hawkwind gigs in wolverhampton decades ago and still play my vinyl albums whan the mood takes me. i also saw what might have been moterheads first gig at the wulfrun hall (back of the civic) in w'ton. they just played hawkwind knock offs then. happy days, Garf
ive got the glastonbury 71 album. fold out cover, program, booklet the works. must be worth a fortune now... :o)
space ritual is without doubt the best live recording (semi live). after warriors and the exit of kilmister, they seemed to lose the vibe. there is no studio recording of born to go.
Hi. i saw hawkwind several times a few decades ago, very impressive with the big line up including 2 drummers. later i saw the first motorhead (or close to) in a tiny college venue the Wulfrun hall in wolverhampton when they just did hawkwind knock offs. i have 5 vinyl albums that get a blast when i am feeling weird. Garf
if you want the whole jam at the Roundhouse (where the Greasy Truckers event happened) you need to have 2 records: Greasy Truckers Party 1. and Glastonbury Fayre 1971 where you can have Silver Machine (with the original stoned vocals from Brock and Calvert and not the later-added Lemmy's), and Welcome. Other than that Silver Machine appeared in this unpolished form only to a couple of bootleg compilations like "Assassins of Allah"
i don't think there IS a studio version. This version was originally on the 'Greasy Truckers Party' album. (The same gig from where the 'Silver Machine' single came!) And it was tacked onto the 'Space Ritual' CD as a bonus track.
@HawklordPXR5 I don;t think this is the original Greasy Truckers version cz I had it on tape and it was different to the Space Ritual version. On G.T. there is an almighty fuck up where Lemmy starts into the chorus too early. It sounds like someone has tacked the Space Ritual version onto the G.T. intro to me.
Never knew there was a "studio" version of this track. As part of the "Space Ritual" material, this was always a live recording to my knowledge. Never heard the Greasy Trucker recording, thanks for sharing!!!
