  • that was a kinda "rap"/"lesson" he was on for awhile, seen him more times than i can count and love every second,a true legend in flesh...

  • what cant he play is the question......ladies and gentelmen BUDDY GUY!!!

  • who knows the first song its legendary

  • @MOBIKNOBI1001 That song is strange brew by Cream with Eric Clapton on guitar, Ginger Baker on bass and I can't remember the drummer's name. It was pretty good, but there is none better than Buddy Guy! ( Sorry, but I am a huge Buddy Guy Fan) You probably already know who it was but I want to make sure that anyone interested in great music has access to every ones memories. Hope it helps

  • @MOBIKNOBI1001 Hey, I'm sorry, but I was wrong! I think it was Jack Bruce on Bass and Ginger Baker on drums, and of course Eric Clapton on guitar. (See what getting old gets you ha ha ) take it easy man

  • Ya'll shut the fuck up. hahaha

  • Im disappointed that he called that dude out in the audience and threw a F bomb at him.

  • I've seen him live twice. Once was at a blues show, but there were several acts. He was a headliner, playing right before the main headliner-BB King. Better show was at a smaller club and he was the headliner. Hed the audience in the palm of his hand. He played mean and fast and slow and subtle. He belted out tunes and whispered some parts so quiet everyone the stopped making noise to hear him. Get the chance-go see him.

  • brisish invasion= bullshit!!!

  • OMG.... what a massive groove on the Cream song Strange Brew!

  • OMG That's funny as hell!! Told his boy straight out to "Shut the fuck up!" LMAO Go Buddy!!

  • "Shut up, I'm gonna tell you the truth. You ain't gonna read this in no book. They don't like to print this shit" Quote of the century.

  • When was this filmed? amazing.

  • I wish they would get rid of the comment option so people could just enjoy this great music without bitching, griping and claiming they know everything more than anyone else. Good grief. Grow up little people.

  • KINGS & KINGS!!!!

  • Make that Baby Cry Buddy.

  • Buddy Guy doesn't have much in the way of his own songs. The 12 bar blues can get a bit dull, if listening to a whole concert of it. It is not surprising that he does this stuff on stage. Cream was a fusion band, if they played only blues they would not have taken the U.S. by storm, Bruce & Ginger of them came from a jazz band and Eric was the blues influence. They had loads of their own original material. Buddy knows that, he & Eric have played together. This is show business, not sour grapes.

  • @GATTAPADRE Have you ever seen Buddy Guy Live?

  • @BigCookinCajun Only saw Buddy Guy as a guest in an Eric Clapton concert, but I have seen Jimi Hendrix live many times, (as he was based in London), also John Mayall with Eric Clapton and Cream many times.

  • @GATTAPADRE I agree that Cream had alot going on, but I also agree with Buddy when he says that the blues came from the US. When ever we hear something we think is new we should probably wonder where it came from and check that music out and we can all grow just a little bit more Have a great day!

  • This is what i call Buddy toying with the audience rather than just playing some scary guitar and getting lost in it. This is why I am iffy about what kind of show I 'll be getting if I go and see him live these days. In 1987 at the Old Greek Theatre in Melbourne Australia he just went for broke and let the guitar talk. That was otherworldly!

  • I adore Buddy Guy, but I still prefer when Buddy plays Buddy and not when he shows how he can play like so many others - especially Clapton and Hendrix.

  • American treasure..Buddy Guy

  • @Shad0wXXXXX

without a doubt like your mother she LOVES it, ask you dad.

  • @Shad0wXXXXX i know you have a problem with your life in the real world. so, you came here and try to get the attention from people. i hope you'll getting better soon.

  • stevie ray wasnt een born, u stfu! lmao

  • People that think Elvis is alive are fools. And to think that he was "King"? He was a hick. Buddy knows his shit!

  • Chess Records Chicago Illinois.

  • Music has become monotone. There is nowhere the near TALENT that there once was. Thank GOD for the memories and talents from the past who have defined music and given it TRU meaning and a real sense of feel.

  • doesn´t sound like cream, hendrix or hooker... but buddy is still a guitar god

  • YEAAAAAAAAAAAH

  • I say if you can close your eyes and it feels good well SHIT it IS!! Now you can talk of my age but it aint nothin but a number. Ask me what I know about the Blues and I'll respond by saying " I got em" what more? My daddy Raised me up listen to some "GUY" I always remember that polka dot guitar, takes me back to a "BUDDY" of mine :) Boom Boom Boom Boom! Not much for a debate and damn sure dont know it all I just know It's in my blood. There's no color code either.

  • Buddy is just setting the record straight, that's all, it's not about hating or anything like that, he's just saying "hey man I know you dig cream, and all the other rock blues music but dig it, It didn't come from England or Europe or Clapton, it came from America and America or White middle America was not ready for it but dig it, other Americans who were not white were digging it, they just didn't have the power to get it played on the radio, so dig it all but don't forget where it came from.

  • it wasnt an invasion it was a home coming

  • NO, Buddy is not Praising The Brits for Playing There Music, they did not need the Brits playing the blues to bring attention to them selfs or to the blues. That does not even sound right.....Buddy is just saying that the music was already there before the brits started playing it so what the fuck are you talking about INVASION........Can anybody say ELVIS......He was before the Brits singing and playing the black mans music, Elvis himself even said that.........

  • awsome to hear buddy play other peoples songs

  • @ArjanLoeve buddy plays other peoples songs 90% OF THE TIME.

  • Champagne and reefer makes a man tell it like it is. You go Buddy Guy.

  • A lot of great white musicians get ignored too so....I like you Buddy Guy but I don't want to hear your crying. Just shut up and play!

  • @swaggeringrebel ......What great white musicians you talkin bout??? I would love to know about these people because if they were ignored I'm sure it was not for the same reasons BG & such was ignored.

  • @shaserv Well, that's just my point. The reason you don't know about the great white musicians that have been ignored IS BECAUSE THEY HAVE BEEN IGNORED. The music business is a tough business to get into. And getting a record deal is a step in the right direction but it certainly doesn't mean that you're suddenly going to become a superstar. At least 95% of ALL MUSICIANS have been ignored. At least "BG & such" had recorded albums with record labels and had some success. More success than most!

  • @swaggeringrebel ......................Boy, you feel real strong about this huh......He is talking about racism which is the reason why they were ignored plain and simple. He named off Johnny Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, Howling Wolf, in Blues your not going to get any bigger names, yes they had some success but if not for the color of there skin they should of had much more success. The Brits came over here playing there music and had way more success doing it. That pisses people off.

  • @swaggeringrebel ........More Over, if there was some whites that got ignored I'm sure the reason was more, They Sucked, then the color of there skin. So don't get on here trying to make like the playing field is even for everybody, it's insulting.........

  • Buddy's the man !

  • If y'all spent time with a guitar or bass or whatever with half the energy you put into proving inane points of view in utube you might learn something. When I started playing in the 60s I tried to imitate everybody, black, white, Brits, whatever. Just shaddup and play.

  • no one I would rather hear do Jimi than Buddy...and he does it soooo well :-)

  • Buddy Guy is one of he people who invented Rock n' Roll and Heavy Metal. Heavy Metal being based in the blues. Black Sabbath was one of the first groups to bring blues to the young folk in the 70s and they didn't even know it was blues. Buddy Guy is the man!

  • what was the first and last songs called

  • @S3EKAND3STR0Y strange brew by cream and boom boom boom by john lee hooker

  • God bless this brother.

  • British bands took "Whole lotta love" and "Sunshine of your love" to America...not watered down blues. They took rock music.Having said that, rock music's main influence was blues.

  • @northerner50 Actually "Whole Lotta Love" was taken FROM Muddy Waters by way of Willie Dixon. Waters Song was "You Need Love" Dixon's was "You Need Loving" You're right it was not watered down blues it was actually a blues song Led Zeppelin copied from Willie Dixon. Just listen to "You Need Love" by Muddy Waters and "You Need Loving" by Willie Dixon. Led Zeppelin started out with a label than mainly put out blues records. But don't take my word for it, ask them.

  • Thank god for the Beatles!Otherwise Clapton,Page etc wouldn't have made it in America and Buddy Guy would be getting 2,000 hits on here instead of 2 million. Buddy Guy makes music so much fun...he's so good he toy's with it,put's a smile on people's faces.

  • Ok lets be honest

when the books write about the Europeans its always they stole this and that and they were luck and blah blah but when it comes to blacks or aboriginals etc its always they started it all and they were the best etc

    Double standards

Some cultures start things some make them better and its all tangled up in blues if you get what I am saying

Instead of 1 group claiming it why not just give the individual the TRUE CREDIT and enjoy what we have

  • @lookylooky2006 just look at the history

  • @Jenntasnim

I have looked at history and we just see it from a different pov

When a culture eats or plays or has a certain characteristic and someone associates it with that group UNLESS they are a member of that group they are "charged" with making a racist statement which is bs

Role models is a great example

People like to see their "own " be successful

    racist? or pride

So if a white person writes a song and a blackman copies that song the blackman is not a racist and people relate more

  • the best tipe of music of the world

  • The story went a little bit like this. 8/21/10. Buddy guy playing his guitar in saratoga CA. In the middle of a solo he go into the song so he walked off stage into the audience. He came towards me. With a very "I can't believe it" look on my face he came closer to me to the point that he was about 7 feet away. He came to me face to face. He said "play this." So I played the strings and out came a note. After the show I came to the stage and he gave me a signed pic. I'll never forget that day.

  • yes Ya'll. just like glue. might be blue, cuz itz true.

  • yes ya'll.

  • why do people always say Stevie Ray Vaughan there was blues way before them like buddy says.

  • 'I Believe I'll Dust My Broom'. Twunt.

Karl Benz , invented the automobile. Twunt.

  • thats why Im proud to be a american, we invented rock n roll, electric guitar and automobile..the list goes on and on

  • @wisesatyr72 The automobile is a German invention. You got 2 out of three. Only it wasn't Bill Haley or any white man who invented Rock 'n' Roll. Louis Jordan was playing R 'n' Roll more the 10 years before Haley. Still you have to hand it to The States - A country of great innovation.

  • Buddy Buddy Buddy. Totally uncalled for. The fan was just excited when he shouted out Stevire Ray. No need to cuss him out. Shame on you!

  • Greatest Guitarist to grace the earth

  • Hell yeah. This is right on!

  • With rare exception, blues artists have had a hard time. Period. In the '70s, blues artists couldn't even get arrested in the American major label world.

  • I must have missed something, I thought the point he may have been making is the fact that he and other black musicians were being ignored at home and it took the British to bring these masterful musicians to the world's attention. Anytime I hear Clapton, Page, Mayall or Rodgers talk of these guys it's with profound respect. God knows what he thinks of a society that could have made Elvis a God and completely ignored Little Richard and Chuck Berry

  • @eskimosandcrates I think that is the point he is making.

  • @ivarus75 i was at concert one night and Buddy played this...then some clown in the audience yells out"play some Stevie Ray.." and Buddy calls back " hey yall muthafucka ,i'm playin' the fucking guitar here!". and proceeded to lay down some Stevie Ray which made the hair stand up on my neck.

  • @Mercmad what SRV did he play?

  • @Mercmad stevie redid that riff or stole however u want to put it form hooker he says it right in the video he wasn't even born yet so your the motha fukas he be talkin bout excuse my ebonics

  • @ivarus75 it is fucked up. without blacks there would be no beatles or rock n roll

  • @eskimosandcrates Close!

  • @eskimosandcrates Right you are!

  • Also the Rolling Stones another 'British Invasion' band

  • @eskimosandcrates Your exactly right, that god for those Brits who saw no color lines!!

  • @eskimosandcrates

Except for the fact that it was the British artists who watered down the real deal. Talented as they were....they white-washed it.

  • @eskimosandcrates absolutely right !

  • @jicmisan my bad for the thumbs down, I misunderstood what you were saying. But we don't have to read the comments.

  • I remember being 13 in 1985 and running into a old Howlin Wolf Album in a record store in Michigan. I was totally blown away, thank God for the Blues.

  • Obviously Buddy was drinking.

  • easily, hands down the greatest guitar player to ever live. bar no one.

  • Muito bom!!

  • i realy like buddy, but i hate how much he talks more than he plays.

im not american nor brittish, but i must tell u that the brittish may not have invented the blues, but they for sure know how to appreciate it. otherwise hendrix wouldnt have to go elsewhere to be recognized.

  • Man! Tell me who bends strings 4:22 like this man ? Please show me who. Buddy's the man.

  • Awesome

  • I think this was in 98 or 99 in Clarksdale, I was there at a blues thing and he was great!

  • I've seen him in concert and I loved it when he brought this damn topic UP. Listen to Hendrix and Jimmy Page and Stevie Ray and most of it revolves around Buddy Guy and Albert King solo structures.

Man, Buddy Guy plays with a chip on his shoulder to this day.

The Godfather of the lead guitar.

Ofcourse I hear a lot of T-Bone Walker in Buddy Guy.

    Wish he's talk about that.

and T-Bones running mate was none other than the GREAT Charlie Christian.

    great post.

    thanx

  • Yeah..I saw him do this gig at Shoreline in Mountain View,CA in 2005!

  • Turn the damn guitar up, I wanna hear a legend at work

  • i think Cream was a little more heavier than that, but ok.

  • what happened to the volume click on utube???

  • i saw buddy live at the front row it was without doubt the greatest thing ive ever seen in my life

  • lol stevie ray wasent even born yet, you shut the fuck up

  • does anyone know the cream song he played

  • @kingtoady he played "strange brew" off of disraeli gears. he slowed it down somewhat though.

  • is this in chicago???

  • As for Hooker!! one of my fav's :)

  • The British totally loved Hendrix!! shame on those who snubbed him

  • Awesome performer! Buddy Guy always.

  • Good stuff.

  • hey are lace sensors basicly the same as EMG's? i know lace sensor is a brand, but do they have the same like magnetic going ons?

  • Awesome!

  • WOW, WOW, and WHOA!!!

  • This man is amazing and unique. what a showman! Thanks for posting this video.

  • He's telling the complete truth. It was British musicians who "re-introduced" Americans to their own music.

  • Whoever that 2nd guitarist is he's smokin' too. Great rhythm playing on Voodoo Child!!

  • @makitfunkee

    is he talking about jimmy??

  • @frnchy182 if by jimmy you mean jimi hindrix then yes that is who he is talking about.

  • Look at his bends... :O

  • Anybody who can get away with playing Hendrix in overalls just wins.

And Buddy Guy is a god, which kind of goes without saying.

  • i didn't know buddy used seymour duncans, are those blackface single coils?

    5:27

  • Those would be Gold Lace Sensor pickups. . . Look them up, noiseless, balanced, and great sounding.

  • Fender Gold Lace Sensors my man...they are BAMF

  • those are lace pickups.

  • He's simply incredible. What a great musician, what a charisma and personality! Yes, he's the man, definately.

  • Look at the energy he brought when he played voodoo. Wow

  • what was the name of the song by cream

  • Strange Brew

  • Great stuff. Actually it wasn't Buddy playing Hendrix and Clapton, they played him. He was a huge influence on the pair of them. I saw him in Cambridge over 20 years ago. What a showman.

  • no shit ron thats because he is the best and wrote em SRV comes close

  • no body does voodoo chile and little wing for that matter like the great Hendrix !

  • Love it!

  • Tip the hat cause this is the man....

  • fuck yeah!!!!!!!! too big! to fuckin big...buddy guy man!

  • Soombody done , done me wrong once again .... Cry baby cry make your mother sigh.

  • I would love to see the rest of this. Where can I get a copy? Please post more if you got it. Thanks, Great chit.

  • the real deal A true blues master.

  • What a character. Buddy's the man.

  • The Cream tune is Strange Brew

  • Billy Gibbons and Jimi Hendrix learned how to bend a string from Buddy Guy.

  • @BigCookinCajun

Don't be silly, Buddy Guy is a hack...

  • @BigCookinCajun LOL poss true but Billy Disrespected many blues players like the story about when he went to see lightnin hopkins as a teen. Billy always runs from that question I just hope he is as humble as he should be to those old cats.

  • strange brew

  • what is the name of that cream song He played?

  • boom boom

    self explanatory

  • i think buddy guy sounds nothing like clapton in cream in this lol. Buddy is a brilliant guitarist tho

  • ALL the great brit rockers pay homage to the great blues masters of the U.S. . Read or view some of their interviews. On PBS they did a "round table" discussion with Clapton,McArtny and a bunch of other brit legends and all they talked about was how the blues influenced them !

  • 'You shut the fuck up' legend

  • Buddy, who are you? Where did you come from? WHAT are you? My god man, you keep surprising me every time!

  • Amen Buddy!

  • Buddy doesn't have to worry. No one in their right mind believes the British invented the blues or rock n roll.

I love me some Clapton,Cream, and Rolling Stones. But believe me,I LOVE,fucking LOVE Buddy,Muddy,Howlin Wolf and all the great bluesmen. Most Americans do and that is what keeps this music alive.

  • The British only reminded or showed Americans their roots.

  • You'd be surprised!

  • @NicolaWriter i think you've missed the point, he's not saying that people make out the blues was created in Britain, he's saying it took this invasion to bring to light what was already at home. I mean i think it's pretty well known it's origins go back not to just Americans, but specifically African-Americans.I share your love for Clapton, i'm not too sure i'd put the stones in the same bracket though.... Long live the Blues

  • @NicolaWriter

No if it wasn't for the Brits, Buddy Guy would have been "strange fruit". You comprehend nothing. Most Americans are idiots (Green Day)...

  • @GreenmanXIV

His music was already known and listened to in the black and white community. The Brits simply took a brand of music and swaggerjacked. Everybody knows who the pioneers were. As for the strange fruit reference, are you speaking about the Billie Holiday song aka lynching ? Would Buddy have been lynched or are you too stupid to realize what you are speaking about?

Buddy Guy was a legend BEFORE the Brits and he is still one now.

    Now bugger off(British expression)

  • @NicolaWriter

"swaggerjacked." You retard (American expression) If it wasn't for the Brits you wouldn't know what the Blues were. Any road I'm English. Ignorance must be bliss for you. Now you silly wanker just piss off (English expression)

  • @GreenmanXIV

Bless your poor silly soul. I am a native Southerner and black.

You are telling me that I don't know the music that was born in my native region AND created by my people? The music my father played every Sat morning?

You are seriously telling me that the Brits, who swagger jacked, introduced me and the other fans to the blues, music that was born in OUR country?

Do you realize how stupid you sound? I do believe your British pride is hurt.

  • @NicolaWriter

Brits introduced a watered down version that introduced your country to the blues. This led to your countrymen wanting to seek out the real bluesmen. So,yes that was a benefit. But Brits introducing blues? Child, please. It was already known and enjoyed in America and still is. Blues is classic and eternal music that people of all kinds can identify with. American innovation at it's finest.

    Now kindly piss off.

  • @NicolaWriter

I really don't care if you were a wheelchair bound, green haired, lesbian chupacabra. You should listen to what BB King and Buddy Guy said, and try reading the History of the Blues. By the way I met Jimmy Hendrix when he used to play at the Camden town round house, you know before he became a legend . Now I really don't like feeding trolls, so as we English say kiss my arse.

By the way if your IQ was any bigger you'd be polk salad, bye yah awl.

  • @GreenmanXIV You mean Jimi Hendrix?

  • @ivarus75 LOL...I hope he meant it, who are these people? Such nutty arrogance.

  • @GreenmanXIV as in polk salad Annie? just workin on a chain gang....

  • @GreenmanXIV I hate English people. Go listen to Lady Gaga and get off the Buddy Guy video. You're obviously far too good to watch this. English people showing us Americans the blues. Puuhhleeease, ever heard of Robert Johnson? Probably not.

  • BUDDDYYYYYYYYYYYY

  • what cream song was he playing?

  • Strange Brew.

  • strange brew
