bought a phone with this and it Works great and i used a hair dryer, it may even work with out opening but you need to heat the iPhone 3g between the volume and the apple logo. it's been working for 5 hours now.

damn it!!!!!!!it doesn't fix at all!!!mine suggestion is better put your phone in an oven and heat it with 60 degree celcius within 30 min and that the solution for this problem!!!!!DUMB ASS!!!!!~BUY A NEW IPHONE TO FIX ALL THOSE CRAP!!!!!!

If you do a restore and it still does not work then you pretty much can say it is hardware issue. Especially if it is greyed out and not functional at all.
