  • United We Stand, To The End Of Times.. Separated We Fall, But Reunite In Valhalla!

  • I know this is from the book by Michael Crichton and it follows the original book very closely.

I think MC got the story from a real account by an Arab trader and the Beuwulf tale combined.

It's an excellent film and a few more dollars and CGI would have put it up there with Lord of the rings.

Does anyone however know how accurate the Viking prayer actually is and if so please pass the source on to me.

Good post and a great movie.

  • I love how even the dog is getting on the action and kicking ass and taking names. That dog is faitheful too. You can tell by his whining when Buliwyf dies.

  • Blutrausch!

  • wait a moment... was that ZORRO!?

  • @robertcarnochan Yup, that was Zorro

  • Europe fought the hords and orcs once ,,,we fight again soon ...No Surrender !

  • FUS RO DAAAAH!

  • SOVNGARDE AWAITS!

  • Read the book - still can`t pin down where it was supposed to have been set - maybe the Pagan Baltic?

  • Vladimir Kulich should have received much more notice for this role. As another commentator said, EPIC!!!

  • d'ya know he is doing a voice in Skyrim? As one of the Jarls.

  • @DeGust01Gote Who is doing a voice? Whats yer source of information?

  • As horrible as war is, it is one of the few times when a man's true nature is revealed.

  • One of the greatest battle scenes in an action movie.Vladmir Kulich was a perfect choice for Buliwyf..He was believable in that role. I wished that he had been cast in the Thor Movie.(if the Thor movie had been much better than it was) This movie had an excellent cast overall for the warriors.I mean Tony Curran,Dennis Storhoi...I like Antonio Banderas also, but I wished the director had taken a chance and cast a true middle easterner.I love this movie though.

  • good by, north men, i´ll com back with a big aereoplane ....:-D

  • what is the name of the music in the background?

I can't seem to find it, but it gives me goozebumps!

  • @IronFace2342 The name i think is Valhalla/Viking victory in the album composed by jerry goldsmith.....unforgettable score!

  • this mighty guy sitting on his barbaric throne, sword planted next to him into the ground, waiting for death to come, should have played conan

  • @bregues Should have been Thor also

  • Listen to the song "Miles Away" by Kaz Piech!!

  • People seems to forget that it was'nt only Sweden, but all of scandinavian was vikings like Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland... Dont forget that

  • @qrentus dont forgt the rus.

  • @elgostine The russian vikings never heard of em'

  • Lo there do I see my father. Lo there do I see my mother and my sisters and my brothers. Lo there do I see the line of my people, back to the beginning. Lo, they do call to me, they bid me take my place among them, in the Halls of Valhalla, where the brave may live...forever.

  • Love this film. Michael Crichton wrote this in college --it is epic.

  • This movie is sooo fucking epic!!!

  • This is Norwegian, stop writing it in fucking swedish.

    Here it is:

  • This battle reminds me of Seven Samurai final battle in the rain outnumbered but they still fight till death. epic.

  • @islanderboi89 That is because it is a complete rip off of the 7 samurai. That was followed by the magnificent seven. Much of Kurosawa's saurai stuff was turned into cow-boy, or other, stuff at one point.

  • @owenmatthewaurelio LOL the saga of Beowulf.. Which is what this is losely based came LONG LONG before Kurosawa............ The Grendle..... The hall...

  • @islanderboi89 yeah i know lol said it reminds me not "it kinda looks similar to" and Kurosawa was influenced by westerns, so everything came back full circle.

  • one guy will not see his father!

  • 0.19 what does this guy do in this film?! Wrong casting

  • @Hamishtarah Go watch the film, its awesome. He is an ambassador from some arab country or something visiting the vikings. Can't remember exactly.

  • @Arachnomen Okay thank you for the tipp :)

I gonna purchase the DVD on ebay

  • @Hamishtarah whats wrong with Banderas...?

  • If i were a viking,i think i would have an ending like buliwyf had.....He had some minutes left to live, overwhelming enemy cavalry attack, nothing left to lose but his honor,in which he upheld by taking out their chieftain...

  • who are the weird bearskin people? some appeared on beowulf game too, like, some look alike native american, idk, can't someone enlighten me? =]

  • 3:31 epic thunder

  • Great film, very inspiring. But you would not have been happy to be in East Britain (Norfolk and Suffolk) when the Vikings came raiding. They eventually settled peacefully in England. However, as many subsequent Spanish, French and German would be tyrants found out, they never lost their courage nor their ability to win a war against all odds.

  • this actor its the only one that i wanted to see as thor, everyone else its just a poser.

  • *goosebumps*

  • I know few Swedish.I really really don't see anything of Viking temper left within them, nothing at all!WTF happened? For example we Serbs are just as idiotic and insane as we were back in 1300s.We fuckin lost our Empire and started our downfall in 1371 because our solgiers were so confident vastly outnumbering Turks that they got really really drunk so when Turks attacked they couldn't even stand up,and acting completely irrationally started berserking and running. Most of 'em drowned in Marica

  • @sumadinac92

It depends on which part of Sweden you go to because in some parts they are very vicious.

  • @sumadinac92 i am a swedish and i fight in the cage so if you keep talking shit maybe i will come and rape and pilage or ass and your mom and wife look good so think before you speak shit about my people your culture

  • @sumadinac92 da jer ste budale a hrvatsku nikad nisu cilu osvojili da nije bilo nas možda nebi bilo ni zapadne europe nego bi svi kao bosanci vikali alahh alahh

  • @sumadinac92 Sweden have been much stronger.... the vikings was just the begining... we have killed armys that was 20 times bigger than us many times... true story! look up swedish history on wikipeda or something.

  • @TheMrTraza your ancestors did... you didn't...

  • @Sanderken89 I say the same to you :P

  • @TheMrTraza why..?

  • @Sanderken89 oh sorry i forgot that you have ben in every war of the worlds history...yeah i forgot you where in war back att 1300 i forgot you are 700 years old.... + Serbs are shit XD have a fucking war whit you'r whit you'r own people??!?!? u guys are sick.... why atack a country thats people are the same as you?!?!?!

  • @TheMrTraza no i mean why do you say the same thing to me? i'm not the one saying that WE killed armys and that they were bigger than US... get the fuck off of your pedastool... plus: who the fuck said that i'm a serb..? i'm belgian XD

  • @TheMrTraza They don't attack people that are same as them. That is why they kill Bosnians.

  • @Sanderken89 + all you guys moved to sweden :P becuse sweden are the best country in the wolrd :D (to live in) :P not like USA where money buys you :P No in Sweden the goverment gives you money :P :)

  • One of the best kings out there!

  • The film and the "book" are not honest.

"They carry clean clothes and the men adorn themselves with bracelets and gold. They treat their slaves well and also they carry exquisite clothes, because they put great effort in trade. They have many towns. They have a most friendly attitude towards foreigners and strangers who seek refuge."(Aḥmad Ibn Rustah, a persian explorer)

  • 163 likes, 1 dislike.

I can only imagine a grumpy little guy sitting in front of his computer with a Monty Python movie like annoyed expression.

  • This isn't really the typical movie hero scene where they magically fight everyone off.

They're basically saying that they will fight and die.

  • Byevulf became Beowulf of the ancient heroic lit. How did his legend begin among illiterate peoples? Like this , of course... RIP Micheal Crichton.

  • So, was this a real pray of the Vikings?

  • @MrBuster128 yes it is, slightly changed for hollywood though

  • @MrBuster128 No, but it captures the spirit quite well.

  • I can't for the life of me remember the premise of this movie :( anyone care to fill me in or give me a link to the movie haha

  • @LastRussianEmporer An Arab emissary (Antonio Banderas) to the Rus volunteers to go with a group of Vikings on their quest to save a Norse village from some ominous threat.

  • Antonio Banderas is from Spain, not Mexico,if anyone has the right 2 say they shared time in history with the Muslims is the Spaniards..The Ottoman empire conquered half of Spain for over 900 years.they still share many things like words and customs.

  • @LastUser1000 It was not the Ottoman empire who conquered Spain, It was The Arab Muslims ( the Ummayed), The Ottoman were Muslims too but they were Turkic!

and the arab lived in Spain from 711 CE to 1609 after the expulsion of the Moriscos by Philip III

  • ömurleg fokkings mynd

  • Gives me the shivers

    Viking Ghosts Walking Past Me?

  • a mexican viking fucking hystarical XD

  • @mofo316ok

Hes not a viking, He is actualy from some middle eastern country, nor is he mexican.

  • @SmootheTank It's called "Spain"

  • @MrPowerring He talked about Allah the whole movie, so hes most likely islamic

You dont see much islams in spain do you?

  • @SmootheTank Wow... are you serious? You really need to hit the books. Islamic separatists have been causing problems in Spain for years.

  • @MrPowerring :P w/e

  • @MrPowerring Antonio Banderas: Spanish. The guy he plays in this movie: Arab.

  • @mofo316ok A Mexican arab.

  • What movie is this?!

  • I love this film but the Norse did not just fight small actions. They took half of England, Ragnar defeated Charles the Bald and ransomed Paris, Rolph the Granger took Normandy and impacted the history of the world, not mention Rurik and his Swedes in Russia.

  • @yamsid Thanks tips.

  • 4:38 What an epic fucking way to be found dead.

  • STFU and let this movie deliver?? This is our culture and our Prayer have respect for it or your Muslim truth with your face in the ground and your ass in the air will be cut off from speaking here again. Rod Riik

  • @Falconerx69 wtf what muslims no fighting spirits just allah and rapist spirit.,,,gogogogo vikings!

  • He wears the horns of power...

  • See, that sounds like a man's religion. None of this Jesus loves you bullshit.

  • 2:42 THAT'S how you f*ckin swing a sword!!

  • @OlafSushinson

What language is this? The syntax seems similar to English, and some of the words seem as though they may be the original template for the English words, like Blodslinjen, which I read as the English "bloodline"; a synonyn for ancestors in this context. Also, "fader ", "syster" and "broder", are only a few letters away from "father" "sister" and "brother". I know English has roots in the Scandinavian and Germanic tongues, so it would be interesting to know which this is.

  • @ishtarg8 In case you haven't gotten an answer yet, it's Swedish. You can most easily see it in the grammar since the German grammar is more alike the English than what the Swedish is :) (My own opinion tough)

  • @EmmySweden92

Thanks for posting; its interesting to know.

Is the language the Vikings are speaking at the beginning of the movie (in the English version, at least), until Ibn Fahlan "learns" their language also Swedish?

  • @ishtarg8 I haven't actually seen the movie so I searched on youtube. It was poor quality but from what i could hear this is what language I think it is: It's definitively not the modern type of Swedish, more sort of a mix of Swedish and Norwegian with a hint of English accent on some of the words, don't know if that's because of the actors (the English part) or not since Swedish have evolved since the Viking time ;)

  • @EmmySweden92

From what you're saying; it sounds as though the filmmakers found an expert in the Viking language to coach the actors; or perhaps linguists cobbled together something from modern Swedish and Norwegian that seemed appropriate. If it is genuine Viking, they will have had to guess at accents; their sources will all be written. Otherwise, language does evolve; Chacerian English is very different from the modern version.

  • @ishtarg8 Yeah I think so too, in any case it's very well done I think :)

Yeah, I've studied a bit on the English language and the oldest text I read was ALMOST like a whole other language, but you could still see how it had evolved. Very fascinating!

  • @ishtarg8 I really don't know, i just found it on Google:D, but i thing it's Swedish or Norwegian, all germanic languages are quite simular, it's easy to guess the meaning.

  • @OlafSushinson if you know how to speak english and read this, please teach me your language

  • @sogyounokotowari If you want to learn CZECH, you will shit yourself!!! :D I speak Swedish only with help of Mr.Google :D

  • @OlafSushinson then youre not swedish?

  • @sogyounokotowari no :D but i hope i'm an offspring of one of the Swedens who fouht in Bohemia(my homeland) during Thirty Years' War, i feel like a Northman!!!

  • @OlafSushinson in one way or another youre lucky to have conections with brave people from the north, im just a shitty brazillian...

  • @OlafSushinson did not the Bohemians reject the Swedes?I think so.They came to give Odin back to the Bohemians, well protestantism actually.

  • @sogyounokotowari Do you wanna learn swedish? :P

  • I heard there's a juicy uncut version in some vault cause the director and Michael Crichton ahd disagreements. Can't wait to see this uncut in Blu ray. Still the movie was great. Underated.

  • like my father before me..

  • Bärsärkar det där?

  • That prayer doesn't make any sense, only warriors fallen in battle can be found in the halls of Valhalla. Its not a place for one's family.

  • @Red0100 maybe their family died in battle?? (not trying to sound sarcastic)

  • @Red0100 One does not have to fall in Battle to die a warriors death.

  • @princesso8788 To get into Valhalla, that is a requirement.

  • @Red0100 ahh I agree that is a requirement. However in the modern world many battles are fought. In the end it is Odins decision who has died in battle and whom has died a warriors death. Neither you or myself is qualified to make that decision my friend.

    Hail Odin

  • @princesso8788 rofl

  • @princesso8788 Actually, from the field of battle Freyja has FIRST choice of the fallen. Check your lore again.

  • @ladylejean215 Very true my dog is bullmastiff greyhound cross and I call her Freya (English spelling)

She can do 40mph + and bite a broomhandle in two like we would a breadstick.

  • @Red0100 wellllll, since the viking culture was male based instead of matriarch based i would have to assume when he says family he means men

  • What an outstanding scene!!!

  • Eh, that was the only religion worthy of true men.

  • gotta respect those kick-ass warriors of old. great movie!!!

  • Proud to be from Scandinavia. "För jag vill leva, jag vill dö i Norden"

  • I'm a full blooded Norwegian and even though this is a movie, it still makes me proud of my heritage.

  • but the german version of the, we call it 'battle prayer' is actually cooler.

  • ''...praise be to allah, may his blessing be upon pagan man who loved all their gods, we shared the food, we shared the blood...''

    i love this video

  • OMG - I LOVE THAT VIDEO! ! !

  • THIS is CULT! ! !

also cult ,-is the speech of 'The Gladiator'

  • the character of banderas is pointless

12 warriors would have been just fine

  • Antonio Bandeiras...Looooool

  • Thanx to Ahmad Ibn Fadlan we know a lot the vikings

  • Two things I'll remember besides this scene.

"It;s a small matter", when the leader not being able to fight was mentioned

The end of the battle when the leader kills the enemy leader, sits on a make shift throne after stabbing his broadsword into the wood next to him and finally sucumbs to the poisonous scratch of the enemy leader's mate

  • what movie is this i want to watch it plz some one tell me

  • @kindt777 13th warrior

  • Epic movie it seems, have yet to see it. Though the book, Eater of the Dead was epic!

  • Now THIS is how I wanna die. I realize that with guns and a lack of an evil horde thats not going to happen, but this is how a warrior/hero goes to God. When I go back home I want the echo of my war cry still around me and a good legacy behind me.

  • Hail Odin! Proud to be his servant!

  • this movie is not about religion...shut the f... up and ejoy...this is epic

  • @antiungur it is... it is about what is my ancestors religion.

Why do we need to follow that middle eastern stuff.. What has the christian/judeo/islamic religious system really got to do with europeans anyway?

  • Comment removed

  • I see why you guys are the most hated race

  • The Jews are the most hated race on Earth. It's a fact. Google it. It's not even about your noses being ten times larger than your penises either.

  • @Viktir666

Actually they are hated because they are the Chosen people as their God said and uses other cultures and people to punish them if they did anything to anger him... and GOD, even though I am not a religios person in the monotheistic sense, did they do a lot to anger their own God. ^___^ They deserve to be hated based on their own beliefs.

  • @Phireo Actually, these man made gods that were worshipped through time don't exist. It's all a creation in our defective minds. A psychological error. I'm not saying there isn't a god at all, I'm just saying mankind is flawed and ignorant. You can't anger your god if you don't know what the rules of your god really are. Until an actual god appears, we will never know what a god wants from us. An actual god probably won't ever appear because it hasn't yet.

Hatred is ignorant. Learn to let live

  • @Viktir666

According to Quantum philosophy you are right, but we all know that is an incomplete bullshit. It's logic says that I did not exist until you saw my comment, which I know is not true. Existance is not a point of view, its definition and sense only is. Hatred is a feeling, something we all have. That it is ignorant just shows hypocrisy in most occasions. Someone destroys everyone dear to you and I would dare you to say that again. Most people who let live are dead now.

  • @Phireo Your last few sentences are silly and opinionated. Until you post facts I'm done with you.

  • @Viktir666

Of course, I did not try to insult, for that I am sorry. Well, about your suggestion,... a lot of Tibetans, Jesus, more modern example would be, 2nd World War's Hebrews in Germany and near it, many Ossetians in these last years of Georgian aggression, any collateral victim of a street shooting in the U.S., Brasil,... and any victim of a street bombing in Iraq, Iran, Israel, Pakistan,... That's about the let live, about the hate, just think about it, what does it mean to hate.

  • @Phireo I understand war will always exist but I try to let everyone do what they want and not interfere with them. Unless they're harming innocent people. Like how the Catholic Priests are molesting little boys in record numbers. I don't appreciate those kind of men. Most of the religious people I've met are not weighted in reality very well. They're a bit out of touch of the facts and they're usually slightly insane or have a personality disorder or identity disorder.

  • @Viktir666

Well, you could also say you hate them, those people, maybe not really much, but enough. The thing is, you can control yourself and use that hate in constructive ways, not all people are like that, many more are even deceived by others. We live in an age where there's a lot of violence, probably right because athorities don't use violence. As with a child, controlled violence with a purpose can save someone from a lot worse fate. About hebrew faith, I was just pointing their history.

  • @Phireo I hear you.

  • @Viktir666

I'll try to explain myself and what I think about hate, facts can hardly be posted about it because they are deceiving most of the times as people are interested in mass tragedies caused by hate more than constructive application of it, and they remember it well. Hate in many sports help one to prevail the other, duel sports for example. You can't hate someone if the thing he has done is not important, thus shows you that you care, both to you and to others. Control is still needed.

  • I agree. They need to make more norse-based fighting movies.

  • Thus Odin was called All-father,

like the Mighty One who was at "time's first

    dawn", because he was father of the gods;

and Val-father, the father of the brave

who dwell in Valhal in high Asgard.

Great was Tyr, the war-god, who gave valour to warriors and by whom he was invoked.

  • The only Vikings left from that region of europe, are hockey players.

  • *chills*

  • I was really sad when the dog made the noise that Bullwai is dead..

  • what has happened to most men in these generations? so thin and weak, its a good thing our viking ancestors cant see most men in these weak pitiful times...

  • @Verseification

Yeah, cant believe the Norse people became such a bunch of gays, similar to british sailors!!!

  • im descended from vikings who came to scotland and i agree

  • Rise against the islamists!

  • Lo, there do I see my father.

Lo, there do I see my mother,

and my sisters, and my brothers.

Lo, there do I see the line of my people,

    Back to the beginning!

Lo, they do call to me.

They bid me take my place among them,

    In the halls of Valhalla!

    Where the brave may live

    Forever!

  • scary cats

  • yep badass grandma :D

  • No, they shouldn't, it's fine enough on it's own.

  • probably one of the civilians in the town helping out in the fight...

  • vikings kicks ass

  • thought the same

  • Dennis Storhøi is godamm awesome in that movie. :P And the only ACTUAL norse of them too.

  • yup

  • is it true though that they used tto eat corps

  • Why doesn't the blonde cheiftain wear a armor??He's only with a chainmail.

  • its because hes to week. watch the movie and you'll know why.

  • nah, its cos he's too badass
