So, who wants to help me study Hongarian (msn/skype/webcam)? I will go there in six months for my work, and it would be nice and respectful to be able to talk without a translator. I could teach you Dutch if you like? Plz help me out!
it's not pronounced hot, it's just the fact that hungarian is the only language in the world that doesn't pronounce a like english does or other languages. hungarian has its really own pronunciation for the letter 'a'
@trucidat0re It has the same sound in Irish (Gaeilge) too. Interestingly, it has the same pronounciation of accent marks too áéíóú. The celts were around Hungary about 2000 years ago. Funny how they still have strong similarities like that.
I was born in Hungary, but my parents are both Dutch and after we moved to Holland I forgot how to speak Hungarian. But it is funny, how I still recognize some of those numbers. I think it would be so cool if I learned to speak Hungarian again!
@ChrisMeister91 Astonishingly, if you can be fluent in Welsh, with its 20+ average character words, absurdly complex arrays of double consonants with an almost total absence of vowels. To me, in modesty a polyglot and recreational etymologist, linguistics are a joy and serve as an organic manifestation of culture. My entire mothers side is Hungarian, and despite being born American, my heart and soul are Hungarian, in honor of my loving mother and grandparents. Forever, Magyar. Rosos Istvan.
@ChrisMeister91 Please DONT give up learning Hungarian, I know its extremely difficult if your mother tongue is American English (an oxymoron itself). Its part of your heritage, and Hungary is a relatively small country with an inversely proportional vastness and depth to its culture, history, tradition, triumphs, and tragedies. It has survived as a civilization state for well over 1000 years, and we as their descendants do honor to our beautiful land in Europe by keeping the language alive.
I had no idea this was such a hard languange! Or that it was the hardest!!!!:O so far I know the Hungarian alphebet, colors, and numbers!;) I'm trying to learn Hungarian bcuz I know someone from Hungary! I'm American, so I only speak English:( but I'm learning Hungarian! And I want to learn French! The ONLY thing I know in French is "I love you"!
@luvseldem95 je t'aime or something like that:D i speak hungarian, english and german a bit but dont ask me to speak to german people.. when i was in Austria i was pissed off:D i wasnt able to buy a f*cking ice cream :D
Hungarian is considered the hardest language around the world. The writing (which is latinized) and pronunciation dont sound as hard as chinese but believe me the grammar and syntax is what makes it tricky. By the way I speak fluent french, Italian, spanish english and understand most romance languages. I also speak some german.
man this is som hard stuff. im romanian nd im trying to learn this b cuz my mom nd my grandma always tlk in this code LOL so im trying very hard tho...
Nagyon klassz, öt csillagot kapott tőlem. Talán annyin lehetne javítani, hogy a hangsúlyozás nem igazán felel meg a természetes magyar hangsúlyozásnak: magyarban a hangsúly kizárólag mindig a szó elején van (pl. tizenkettőben nem a Kettőn van a hangsúly, hanem a tizen) De még egyszer: keep up the good work, nagyon szuper ez a klip is és az abc-s is :)
What I said was that I thought it was great, perfect pronounciation, just that her diction was not correct in Hungarian, as in Hungarian language, if spoken correctly, the stress is always at the beginning syllabus of any word. Imagine it as a slope: starting high and going down. (the same goes for sentences).
I'm learning Hungarian since my dad's side is all Hungarian, but I'm having trouble with everything... Usually I don't have a hard time with languages, but this is some hard stuff.
As of yet I learned: English, French, Spanish, Italian and Welsh
@ChrisMeister91 wow cool! I really wish to have someone hungarian in my family :(, and about Hungarian I know, its a bit hard but, it remembers me my native language (sardinian) for the verbs' positions and helps a lot.
P.S as of yet I know: Sardinian (native), Italian (native), English, French, Russian (only reading), Spanish (a bit only for influence of my native language)
interesting language, I like it

Itt mindenki nyelvész? Szerintem nagyon szépen mondja a számokat. Ez egy felsorolás. Mégsem mondhatja az egészet egy hangszínen; akkor unalmas lenne.

I'm learning Hungarian since my dad's side is all Hungarian, but I'm having difficulty. Usually I learn them pretty easily, but wow, this one's tough.
Languages learned: English, French, Spanish, Italian and Welsh.
PS: Do you have tips on the pronunciation?
