James Leathers was there in '67 and '71....He's never returned my calls since '73..I would just like to know more about what he did over there..I fly as well and he was a big inspiration for that desire...Excellent flying on this footage.
I was a crew chief and spotter for the 199th Swamp Fox Vietnam for 16 months from 1970 to 1971. Buddy was careless one day while pulling on his gloves to to climb in he walked into the edge of the prop of his Bird Dog. He lived, but it took several hundred stitches to pull all the skin back together on his right side, back and shoulder.Charlie like to shoot at us at night and then run like the devil.
If your Dad was Rod 24, this is Rod 23 with a message for him! Advise if you remember dropping corned beef sandwich to "Charlie" from Tong Le Chon while in the boonies on the border. Tour was 8/69 to 7/70 at An Loc. Anybody else out there? Drop me a note!
my dad was a Raven FAC in Laos. Frank Birk. Died in 1993. check out the books "The Ravens" by Christopher Robbins, and "Quoth the Raven", by Jim Roper. Might shed some light...
thank you for sharing this. I wear the bracelet of Vietnam MIA William R. Finn shot down with pilot Timothy Tucker over extreme southern Laos 12/24/1971. They are still today listed as MIA. the internet has helped me so much in learning about my MIA and what he did in the USAF. If any other vets read this, can you help me with where I may get info and a photo of him ? I have spent months scouring the web but keep reaching dead ends. I never knew this man, but for so long he has been with me...
Thanks for posting this video. Brings back memories. '68-'69 Danang. FAC (Marine TACA), artillery and Navel gunfire. 900 plus hours direct combat support.
My grandfather, Major Francis James Skufca, flew one of these in nam! Given the relative scarcity of these units, I'd bet dollars to donuts they one another. How about that?
@TheDagglewillis if your grandfather is still living can you ask him if he knew william(Bill) R. Finn ? I think he was in Ben Hoi?? in Laos, shot down 12/24/1971 and still today listed as MIA. I want to find a photo of him, I have been wearing his bracelet for 38yrs, visited him on the wall in DC, just want to put a face to the name. I have cried so many tears for this man I never knew, he will always be remembered so long as I am alive...thanks
Great video. Thanks for posting it. I know someone who was a FAC. I can only imagine how difficult it must have been to fly a plane and give coordinates, all while under enemy fire. It was because of their selfless act of bravery that helped a lot of Americans make it home alive from Vietnam. My hat goes off to them.
Thanks for the video - really brought back some memeories. I flew Facs from Oct 67 to April 68 with 101st Airborne - got to see a lot of Nam from the air. Our jeep used the call sign of "Big Mother Fac". Once again thanks and "welcome home".
@tyoberg- your dad was a badass- god bless the usa

Very interesting video! Thanks for sharing. I wonder how many of these gems rot away in basements and attics. They all should be made public.
