I'd like to remind you all that George Bush Sr. did something quite similar when he made a speech at a high school and had it broadcast throughout the nation during schooltime and urged faculty to have children watch and follow along. This isn't a new tactic, it's been done before by the right.
Similar outrage was thrown from the left, then, in 1991.

Im in an AP GOV Class at my high school that is taught by a severely biased left wing teacher that completely bases our grade on our opinion on NEWSWEEK articles. like what a joke. A lot of people speak to children every single day. Zealous teachers can be found anywhere. A lot of my teachers were liberal, thanks. My turn: something will happen like the 'Wave' with youth if it's not handled correctly, and they'll all be worshipping him, tattle on their parents, and we'll turn into Twilight Zone's "It's A Good Life." PO went to school, so this probably won't happen. He wants some support & to talk. Fox pulls too many parallels that don't match. See what I did, exactly.

I saw the speech in school, and guess what... It was literally stay in school, get a good education, and do your best.
So Evil. Ironically some parents pulled their kids out of school because of this speech. Irony.
And guess what, We never talked about it again, no letters, etc. (Also no one got detention, nor did I see any red stars in the background.) (Don't Forget the fact that Bush, was reading to kids during 9-11.)

Oh give me a break. There was nothing wrong with Obama meeting with children. Presidents meet with children all the time and you know it. Conservatives just want to pick at every little thing that Obama does. He was meeting with children, encouraging them to stay in school, giving them an oppurtunity to shake the hand of a sitting U.S. president, and there was NOTHING negative about any of it. Grow up!

It's hypcritical of the GOP to think this way when back in September 1988, Pres. Reagan made a similar speech to students where it was "politically charged" towards the end of the speech. Reagan talked about how "the other guys (the Democrats) like to raise our taxes". He was encouraging students to vote Republican in order to avoid a tax raise. For a school speech, you don't bring politics into it. Yet, the GOP was ok with that.
