Nice stuff, but I find some capoeira kicks seem to commit the kicker a bit much and leave them open if they don't connect. That first kick turned him around into a position where a faster opponent could have taken advantage. I hasten to add... I am NOT that opponent!

o mais importante e que e os brasileiros que usam capoeira in mma, a estão usando com inteligencia, isso e o mais importante, como disse o peleboaba, tem que saber chão se não se fode mesmo, como os cara do kick box, tambem se fode direto no mma por não seber chão direito. por que quando tu ta imobilizado numa chave de braco e comeca a sentir tua articulacao soltar, tu pede agua na hora.

Realmente é utilizado alguns golpes e um pouco da ginga da capoeira, porém, no mma não tem como manter apenas um estilo de luta. Variou alguns fundamentos da capoeira e de outras artes marciais.
Sometimes when ppl tak about capoeira, they think of 2 things, TKD or Brakedance... when some1 says "capoeira" to me i can only imagine 2 things, muay thai or wushu.
In capoeira we have ellbow strikes, knee strikes, take downs, arm locks (yes alot of JJ in it)... The only reason you dont see this to often is cause you look at vids her ein youtube, where the only thing taht seems to matter is tricking... wich is hadly 10% of what capoeira is.
If you think that capoeira is ginga + some kicks and flips... then you know nothing about it and should comment. Alot, if not most of the kicks in muay thai are like TKD, alot of kicks and strikes in TIKD exist in Karate... anyways, my point is that there arent rly mane diferent ways of fighting... you need to kill the other dude... kick him in the head... just cause you do capoeira doesnt mean you HAVE to do ginga first then kick him while you doing some awesome flip...
i assume you train capoeira,if so do you spar with contact striking,clinch and ground?If you dont its useless in a fight,if you do i guarantee it looks nothing like capoera just as videos show.Punching is the most important thing in mma and capoeira doesnt seem to have any.

We have learned that punching is not the most important part in mma, Capoeira has full contact, take downs, elbows, knees, ground work and submissions. That capoeira still looks like capoeira if moves are executed from within the style. That art forms are not useless just because they don't have all 3 areas of combat. @Sal1the1great Capoeira is an ever evolving and changing martial art. It was modernized in the 1900 by incorporating aspects of other martial arts like judo, tkd, muay thai etc. Since then it continues to evolve and take on aspects from other arts. While not all schools have submissions, many do. While the submission training is no where near bjj level, the point is submissions are taught and allowed in many Capoeira schools.
Cont. The other point is while Marcus is a Capoeirista, he is also an MMA fighter and trains in more than just Capoeira. His winning via bjj does not mean anything. Anderson Silva has defeated several opponents via submission, so what? He mainly likes to use Muay Thai and does that 90% of the time. Marcus knows bjj, boxing and Capoeira, He is an MMA figher and will use what he needs, when he needs it.
@thaiboxer5 Capoeira has a shit load of submissions, takedowns, throws, and locks native to it. You learn them at a certain level, and they are not shown in shows.
@bigtimes1 I can only take your word on that one. The group here is led by a green cord, and they do no groundwork or submissions that I've seen, though they do do many throws. In any event, it would be quicker and more efficient for the axe guys to train bjj - which I'm sure is what they do. that way, they don't have to wait to learn what they need for an mma fight. Judo has strikes, but you don't learn them until black belt, and even then, they are not a focus. same thing here.

Dude I'm a green cord and have been one for two years, the only reason I know the takedowns, hold, submissions and such is because I go to the advanced class. Because yes: it does. You probably thought that the dance-sparring was the original technique, but it's not. The dancing was just a way to hide the actual intent behind Capoeira - which most MMA-artists see and respect.
Actually the fact that 99% of the time people who do Capoeira get their asses kicked is what I look at when judging the effectiveness of Capoeira. The moves used by Capoeiristas are ineffective. Whether they're originally supposed to hide the "original technique" or not doesn't matter. It's still what all the Capoeiristas use when trying to fight, so I don't buy it anyways.
Or you could do a martial art where every strike, technique and move is practical and make the most efficient use of your time. Why do something if only a small part of it is actually useful?
What people don't know is that in CAPOEIRA there is also jiu jitsu, and valetudo. Many rodas of capoeira finish in that. Capoeira is like valetudo in a roda but has some rules....like for example the ginga and the respect to mestres..etc
ok im not too up on my slave trade history, yet im intrested in what you just said. but in all fairness its "now" prodomentley a form of dance...he would have "started" as a capoeira dancer and then trained in maby muay thai, ju-jitsu and used capoeria kicks in conjuntion with these styles...im not takeing anything away from the man, but he's style is far from "just" capoeria alone
No dout, nowadays anyone participating in the MMA world incorparates Muay Thai, boxing, Judo, and BJJ. But Caporira isnt a dance. Its truly a fighting art. Slave masters dont want slaves to be able to defend themselves. So the slaves disguised the art in dancing forms.
The man hasn't changed, capoeria has. Middle-class people made it nothing but a dance - which is too bad, because it's a very efficient technique. However, most people nowadays don't sparr with it. It's a shame.

eu acredito que assim como lyoto adaptou o karate para lutar, a capoeira precisa de alguns ajustes, eu vi um vídeo de capoeira de contato, onde a ginga é obrigatória, talvez mais gente se participasse de mma, a getne veria coisas muito interessantes , o legal é ke as vezes o capoeirista d efato usa goleps de capoeira, não é aquela coisa onde vc nõa consegue diferenciar um lutador de outro

Realmente é utilizado alguns golpes e um pouco da ginga da capoeira, porém, no mma não tem como manter apenas um estilo de luta. Variou alguns fundamentos da capoeira e de outras artes marciais.

Sometimes when ppl tak about capoeira, they think of 2 things, TKD or Brakedance... when some1 says "capoeira" to me i can only imagine 2 things, muay thai or wushu.
In capoeira we have ellbow strikes, knee strikes, take downs, arm locks (yes alot of JJ in it)... The only reason you dont see this to often is cause you look at vids her ein youtube, where the only thing taht seems to matter is tricking... wich is hadly 10% of what capoeira is.

If you think that capoeira is ginga + some kicks and flips... then you know nothing about it and should comment. Alot, if not most of the kicks in muay thai are like TKD, alot of kicks and strikes in TIKD exist in Karate... anyways, my point is that there arent rly mane diferent ways of fighting... you need to kill the other dude... kick him in the head... just cause you do capoeira doesnt mean you HAVE to do ginga first then kick him while you doing some awesome flip...

i assume you train capoeira,if so do you spar with contact striking,clinch and ground?If you dont its useless in a fight,if you do i guarantee it looks nothing like capoera just as videos show.Punching is the most important thing in mma and capoeira doesnt seem to have any.

We have learned that punching is not the most important part in mma, Capoeira has full contact, take downs, elbows, knees, ground work and submissions. That capoeira still looks like capoeira if moves are executed from within the style. That art forms are not useless just because they don't have all 3 areas of combat. @Sal1the1great Capoeira is an ever evolving and changing martial art. It was modernized in the 1900 by incorporating aspects of other martial arts like judo, tkd, muay thai etc. Since then it continues to evolve and take on aspects from other arts. While not all schools have submissions, many do. While the submission training is no where near bjj level, the point is submissions are taught and allowed in many Capoeira schools.

Cont. The other point is while Marcus is a Capoeirista, he is also an MMA fighter and trains in more than just Capoeira. His winning via bjj does not mean anything. Anderson Silva has defeated several opponents via submission, so what? He mainly likes to use Muay Thai and does that 90% of the time. Marcus knows bjj, boxing and Capoeira, He is an MMA figher and will use what he needs, when he needs it.

@bigtimes1 I can only take your word on that one. The group here is led by a green cord, and they do no groundwork or submissions that I've seen, though they do do many throws. In any event, it would be quicker and more efficient for the axe guys to train bjj - which I'm sure is what they do. that way, they don't have to wait to learn what they need for an mma fight. Judo has strikes, but you don't learn them until black belt, and even then, they are not a focus. same thing here.

Because yes: it does. You probably thought that the dance-sparring was the original technique, but it's not. The dancing was just a way to hide the actual intent behind Capoeira - which most MMA-artists see and respect.

Actually the fact that 99% of the time people who do Capoeira get their asses kicked is what I look at when judging the effectiveness of Capoeira. The moves used by Capoeiristas are ineffective. Whether they're originally supposed to hide the "original technique" or not doesn't matter. It's still what all the Capoeiristas use when trying to fight, so I don't buy it anyways.

What people don't know is that in CAPOEIRA there is also jiu jitsu, and valetudo. Many rodas of capoeira finish in that. Capoeira is like valetudo in a roda but has some rules....like for example the ginga and the respect to mestres..etc

gente todos que acompanham mma sabe que um atleta nao usam somente uma arte marcial, e sempre se destaca por uma modalidade. Temos como exemplo minotauro que e mais finalizador sendo o jiu-jitsu sua base principal e vanderlei que tem maior caracteristica no muay thai. Entao o Marcus pode sim usa outras artes marcias alem da capoeira que e sua base principal.

O golpe q terminou a luta eh de capoeira sim , apesar de muitas pessoas nao saber na capoeira treinamos muitos golpes de imobilizacao e diversos tipos de tesouras ( nao sei se eh assim q se fala nas outras lutas) ...
