at 8:14 ridley might want to see a doctor about that xD great sprite though, wow that was awesome watching you make that. i guessing puppet is to make sure it moves right and doesnt do things like 8:14 when you are done making? if you are taking suggestions, how about the boss from galaga arrangement?
As it stands, I won't be putting in many Non-Shooter bosses, Ridley just felt like a good fit. If you've got any suggestions though, I'm up to hearing them.
Oh... My.... God... I LOVE METROID! You are so awesome ACE! Metroid has got to be one of the most godly games ever created, and putting Ridley in there is really cool... I actually dreamt you were going to do this the night before... Is that weird, or am I pshycic? I hope not...
At least it's nice to know you're giving something to the shmup community after all those amusing "let's play' videos. BTW, do you have a penchant for sprite design or any aspect of video games?
PS. Yes, making sprites takes patience...and more so, if you wanna do a 3D rendered object in a game. (BTW, do you have plans in the near/far future to do a 'Let's Create a 3D Game Character'?)
wait a minute....you´re going to put ridley in the game of shoot the core???? if it´s true then, it´s gonna be interesting because i love metroid, even ridley it´s my best villian
I pissed myself when you started shading the head and i thought "god i suck at sprites." Do you attribute your "skillz" to working so much with sprites at the your site?
Alot of sprite artists are stuck up. They seem to forget what these things were made for in the first place!
I found the best way to practice was to take an existing video game sprite, and draw a similiar looking character next to it. Then attempting to copy the first character's shading. Eventually, it'll "click".
Funnily enough, the 16bit Megaman games are a very good place to start this sort of practice. It's a simple but nice to look at art style.
pretty much what your doing here huh? im trying to learn how to shade. im making a game using a program called zelda classic. its an amazing program you should look it up.
Incredible sprite man. The shading you do is brilliant, considering it's all pixels and all that. You should try applying to work for a Nintendo DS games developer or something. :)
Any Parodius bosses? Perhaps the return of Chichibinta Rika? Yes~?

Great to see pixel designers out there... a dying breed since everything seems to be going 3D or at-least 3D-modeled now.

brilliant question. don't supppose you ever read the description. Or watch the video at that.
ACE, would you mind some suggestions for other non-shootemup guest bosses, or have you basically got all that planned out?

Yes he will. I am keeping an up to date list on the Gradius Wiki of what bosses I will be including.

very good for day 1. what attacks are you planning for him at the moment?

Fangame. Pretty much the entire thing is being made from scratch, aside from Music and Sound Effects.

@ACESpark What program did you use, Ace? I'd like to know.

I'm gonna laugh when I see ASH try him out. Of course when Ridley's done.
ACE, I have a very large pool of respect for you now. Now that i've seen the spriting process...i'm thoroughly impressed. Keep up the amazing work.

Cripes, that's a hell of a lot of work you put in that.
Imagine trying to draw a completely new character/object with nothing to base your work on.

I'm really impressed, Ace. The choice of music made the video even more entertaining to watch, as well.
Don't rush, of course, but I must say I'm rather looking forward to the next step of your work. I've always been interested in this kind of thing.

Ripping sprites has given me a greater understanding on how developers do things.
Other than that, it's just practice. In this case i've studied an art style and stuck with it.
I also sprite things for the perpose they're designed - it's supposed to work well in a game, not just sitting there in a online gallery.
ACESpark 2 years ago
Well, as i expect from you, you gave me an answer that wasn't condescending like other sprite artists ive asked. Thanks ace!

ACESpark speaks truth.
Like most things, spriting takes practice.
And I also generally only sprite things when I have a use for them in mind... which generally never come to life, but nevermind that :B
