  • Any Parodius bosses? Perhaps the return of Chichibinta Rika? Yes~?

  • what software did you use make and animating the sprites

  • That is Awesome :D (thumbs up and favorite)

  • another suggestion is "spiritual larsa" from "mushihimesama futari"

  • at 8:14 ridley might want to see a doctor about that xD great sprite though, wow that was awesome watching you make that. i guessing puppet is to make sure it moves right and doesnt do things like 8:14 when you are done making? if you are taking suggestions, how about the boss from galaga arrangement?

  • What program did you use to puppet the sprite?

  • Great to see pixel designers out there... a dying breed since everything seems to be going 3D or at-least 3D-modeled now.

  • Can you do more "Let's Create A Shoot 'Em Up Boss" before completing making the "Shoot the core" fangame?

  • Damn you think you could give me lessons? I wun to be game developer just like you are.

  • will ridley be in 'shoot the core'?

  • brilliant question. don't supppose you ever read the description. Or watch the video at that.

ACE, would you mind some suggestions for other non-shootemup guest bosses, or have you basically got all that planned out?

  • As it stands, I won't be putting in many Non-Shooter bosses, Ridley just felt like a good fit. If you've got any suggestions though, I'm up to hearing them.

  • i thought maybe yellow devil or Emperor Egg mk2. There were some other ideas, but i can't remember them at the moment....

  • Yes he will. I am keeping an up to date list on the Gradius Wiki of what bosses I will be including.

  • very good for day 1. what attacks are you planning for him at the moment?

  • Fangame. Pretty much the entire thing is being made from scratch, aside from Music and Sound Effects.

  • @ACESpark What program did you use, Ace? I'd like to know.

  • Oh... My.... God... I LOVE METROID! You are so awesome ACE! Metroid has got to be one of the most godly games ever created, and putting Ridley in there is really cool... I actually dreamt you were going to do this the night before... Is that weird, or am I pshycic? I hope not...

  • gradius and metroid r my 2 favorite series im glad u implemented ridley he pwns

  • You have some amazing skills to do that, I wouldn't know where to start! XD

  • At least it's nice to know you're giving something to the shmup community after all those amusing "let's play' videos. BTW, do you have a penchant for sprite design or any aspect of video games?

PS. Yes, making sprites takes patience...and more so, if you wanna do a 3D rendered object in a game. (BTW, do you have plans in the near/far future to do a 'Let's Create a 3D Game Character'?)

  • can´t wait ot see a boss recovery run of your own game ^_^ hehe nice work keep it up !!!

  • I'm assuming you're going to throw at least one Contra boss in there?

  • MAte... In what you´re not good? when you starting to remakethe good old Ridley... I was like ''HOLY SH----!!!''

INteresting videos, i´ll watch them when you upload more,

PS: so... the last video was really the Final part of the blind run? o,o

  • I'm gonna laugh when I see ASH try him out. Of course when Ridley's done.

ACE, I have a very large pool of respect for you now. Now that i've seen the spriting process...i'm thoroughly impressed. Keep up the amazing work.

  • Cripes, that's a hell of a lot of work you put in that.

Imagine trying to draw a completely new character/object with nothing to base your work on.

    *shudder*

  • ACE, I'm glad I've subscribed to your account.

  • wait a minute....you´re going to put ridley in the game of shoot the core???? if it´s true then, it´s gonna be interesting because i love metroid, even ridley it´s my best villian

  • I'm really impressed, Ace. The choice of music made the video even more entertaining to watch, as well.

Don't rush, of course, but I must say I'm rather looking forward to the next step of your work. I've always been interested in this kind of thing.

  • I'll be waiting, dude! Awesome work! Can't wait for the rest!

  • I pissed myself when you started shading the head and i thought "god i suck at sprites." Do you attribute your "skillz" to working so much with sprites at the your site?

  • Ripping sprites has given me a greater understanding on how developers do things.

Other than that, it's just practice. In this case i've studied an art style and stuck with it.

I also sprite things for the perpose they're designed - it's supposed to work well in a game, not just sitting there in a online gallery.

  • Well, as i expect from you, you gave me an answer that wasn't condescending like other sprite artists ive asked. Thanks ace!

  • Alot of sprite artists are stuck up. They seem to forget what these things were made for in the first place!

I found the best way to practice was to take an existing video game sprite, and draw a similiar looking character next to it. Then attempting to copy the first character's shading. Eventually, it'll "click".

Funnily enough, the 16bit Megaman games are a very good place to start this sort of practice. It's a simple but nice to look at art style.

  • pretty much what your doing here huh? im trying to learn how to shade. im making a game using a program called zelda classic. its an amazing program you should look it up.

  • ACESpark speaks truth.

Like most things, spriting takes practice.

And I also generally only sprite things when I have a use for them in mind... which generally never come to life, but nevermind that :B

  • Omg, you just gave me the inspiration to make a 2d game after I watched this awesome speed spriting video.

    You rules Ace :D

  • Wow. It does look quite mesmerising sped-up like that. Very nifty.

  • this is amazing, you really have a great talent ;] i will be waiting with patience for next updates

  • Awesome spriting, I love the shading. What did you use to attach the parts together?

  • truely great.

  • Incredible sprite man. The shading you do is brilliant, considering it's all pixels and all that. You should try applying to work for a Nintendo DS games developer or something. :)

  • Awesome.Good luck ACE!

  • I love your pixel-art skills :) keep em coming!

  • cool beans.
