you should just use calibre. its free to download and will convert just about any format of digital book to the format of your choice. Also if you do some research you can find how to take the DRM from digitally rented books so you can keep them.

yes, I usually convert bunch pdf files to ePub eBook format, it has no any incompatible problems with iBooks ot iTunes. Although the iPad now natively support PDF reading.

" Sorry, the book The Scheme of Haruhi Suzumiya can't be converted.

Possible reasons for this include:

Digital Rights Management (e.g. a password is needed)

Cheers! This was helpful. I use windows, and I have iTunes installed on it. Though I have ePub files stored on my laptop, iTunes offers no such option as books. This question might sound stupid, but I'm new to the world of Mac (have been using windows all my life.)
