I live n kenai I remember the day it blew up I watch the whole thing it mushroomed then all the rock/ash floated over both kenai and soldotna then the wind picked up and blew it all to anchorage. We didn't get hit with none of it just anchorage it was way crazy!!!!
Actually it is not ash, they are exploded rock particles (sharp!)... If you take a breath they are said to make microscopic wounds in your longs and windpipes... and really fck you up.... Luckily I don't live next to one of those exploding mountains ;)
I live in anchorage as well. I know that the ash smells like sulfur and chokes you up. there just wasnt enough to bother your eyes, no one I know complained about eyes. what were you doing? pouring it in your eyes?
