you can also use liquid starch! and liquid starch doesn't slow down the bruning rate like dextrin does.

1g of meal burns faster than 1g of lift but 100g of lift burns faster than 100g of meal.

@armadillo4495 he's adding dextrin which slows it down, dont use dextrin on this, and you have granulated bp. However to make "lift" powder, theres a few things. One, use soft wood airfloat charcoal, i use cedar cuz i like the smell when im cooking it. I plan on trying some redwood just for the hell of it. Second, the only way to get your black powder in its meal form to burn faster is by milling it. some as little as 1 hour, 3 hours or the guarenteed to knock sox off 13 hours. my vids!!!

@molywhopx4 You've picked a rad hobbie, I've successfully made a lot of lift (flash grade bp) and this fella isn't the right guy to teach people to make lift powder. First off, dextrin is just a binding agent, and slows burnrate..... PERIOD I only use dextrin in blackmatch fuse, or stars. Without dextrin in your fuse mix, the bp will just fall off when bent. Check out my vid on ball mills, because if you want lift grade bp, you must have one. start off by finding Lead balls like at walmart

i did this on my bp my bp was a little bit slower tha n tthe 1 in my vid i granulated it and nows it like super slow i only let it fry for liek 1 hour tho and the granules can be squished into paste with a spoon please write back

hey do u have to ballmill ur bp and then granulate it or can u just granulate once made? Also when ballmill i understand how it crushes bp too its finest but how does granulating make bp fast just like ballmilled powder.

if you don't ball mill it first you don't have BP you have green mix.

actually... there is a way.

you can use a ceramic bowl (regular bowl) and a hammer and use it like a mortar and pestle it will be pretty much the same thing just make nice and fine then just granulate =]

because that would make meal powder and it doesnt burn as fast. lift powder is used to lift shells.. or starmine stars because it is granulated so it burned faster

yes,coffee grind each seperate then seive together about four times.Mix with hot water and cold isopropol to wet then mesh screen to granulate and get fast as hell crap.I have had some thats is like flash powder.For lift it needs to be fast but not to fast can be dangerous.

I mentioned this in one of my other videos, i have a crappy rock tumbler not a real ball mill so it took me 32 hours a real ball mill it should take 3-5 hours.

3-5 will get you decent with a ballmill but with mine i mill it for 12 hours and get a really nice meal i just suck at granulating

Hi - good video, i understand what the purpose of granulating with dextrin is and im giving it a go for myself soon but what i dont get is, when you ram your granules into a rocket dont they just press into one solid mass again like meal powder would or are they too hard? if they are too hard what stops them just falling out of the bottom of the rocket? ty for any feedback

oh i use dextrin for my stars.. but with granulateing bp what does the dextrin do i just use bp than ad rubbing alchol and than granulate it.. plz tell me another way that makes stronger granules. does the dextrin make it into 1 thing and make it so it wont fall apart when ur granulated it

No regular BP is so fine there is very little air between the particles so fire starts at one end and burns through. w/ granulated BP there are large air pockets allowing the fire to propagate very quickly.

is the diff between stars and aerial shells that

You really need to do some research stars are the little balls of composition that are loaded in aerial shells they burn red or blue or maybe glitter.

I mention that lift can be used to lift stars because in a starmine you essentially put BP lift in a mortar and cover it with stars then fuse it.

ive made and launched shells but granulateing bp is a pain when i make it to wet and it goes into stringey clumps. so my question is. u said ad the dextrin but why not ad the dextrin when ball milling or is it cause u might want to use the normal bp with no dextrin for something else

If your BP is too wet add less water. Dextrin is only used to make the wet BP clumps stick together adding it to meal would do nothing. you might get away with meal lift for 2" shells but anything bigger your gonna have problems.

i wouldnt use dextrin before i dont know why but i milled a batch with some and the bath was horrible it went really slow so i wouldnt

Dextrin is a binder it is like a weak powdered glue when it becomes wet it becomes gummy and it holds the black powder into little granules and makes them hard when they dry.

For the exact same reason to hold it together and make it hard.

because of the dextrin or riche starch you can make little grains of black powder. they do this for two reasons: 1: there is more air between the grains and therefore it will burn more violently. 2: no more dusty black powder flies around when scooping it in a tube or whereever;thus easy to work with.

you know a easyer way dont you its mp lift powder not as powderfull can lift maby 1 pound or maby 2 if ur lucky aroung 50 feet up!! harder to make but if u dont got black powder itll work ill have it posted withit 5 days if i can!!

dextrin is a water soluble binder it can be purchased at sky lighter or made by baking corn starch in an oven at 400 degrees for a couple hours until it turns golden brown.
