i used to think Alone Again by Dokken was the best metal ballad till i heard this song. Halford destroys Don Dokken in the singing department hahaha .. great song by Priest
Personally i Think that it's best when musicians write songs that come straight from the heart. And that's what i like about Rob Halford he sang what he felt and what he lived all the those bad memories and the bad life and the hard test you have to go through before you have a band and get famous. Rock On Judas Priest
I saw them on this 1984 tour in San Diego; 60 years old and still a Priest fan. I saw them again last year and I'd like to see their last tour but I don't think it'd be quite the same without K.K.
DEFENDERS OF THE FAITH IS BY FAR ONE OF THE BEST BY THE PRIEST AND MY ALL TIME FAVORITE ALLSO UNLEASHED IN THE EAST PAIN KILLER BRITISH STEEL ECT ECT BUT KNOW THIS JUDAS FUCKING PRIEST ARE BY FAR THE GREATEST METAL BAND OF ALL TIME
This seldom heard tune was always my favorite Priest song. Metal is often powerful, gritty, and visceral, but rarely is it beautiful. This is beautiful. JP has literally 50 good songs, but I put this and The Sentinel at the top of the list, with Defenders of the Faith as easily the best album.
@iltarion i agree 100% that Defenders is by far their best record & probably my favorite metal record of all time. it's heavy, dark, & melodic. each song is fantastic. when the night comess down is a priest song that seldom gets mentioned. but it's as good as any of their more popular tunes. like you said, the sentinel is a brilliant piece of writing. perhaps their best. rock hard, ride free & jawbreaker are among my favorites as well. rock on!
Now that Judas Priest are disbanding this song has a completely new meaning to it, just listen to the lyrics , "The last race of the setting sun"-That's how they should had named their final world tour.
I think this album they had their best guitar sounds.they sounded like buzzsaws and they used such great chord harmony. now their guitars sound too watery.
When this album came out,I was a bit disappointed because Screaming for Vengeance was just so killer. It seemed not quite as good. But as time as gone by,this album is a classic
5345kennybarnwell Halford just can't reach the notes he could reach without trouble 10 or 15 years ago. Yeah he is wonderful singer, he is a symbol, he ia a judas priest member/founder but voice as most things in this world is getting weaker. So dude he can't go so high as he could in 70' 80' or 90'. So when you listen to song and Halford sings it different than on record it means he can't reach the notes and I don't blame it. It's natural.
Well many people gave me minuses, but noone deny that Tim Owens has now much wider scale range voice than Rob but it is Halford for me who is and will be a legend, who was form many an inspiration or adoration however you name this. Now I have heard many things Halford sang last days especially live, and one thing came to me he doesn't have a voice so strong to sing Painkiller for instance the way he did it old days. And Owens can, but Halford for me always a metal God Owens not.
@leunamme888 - Iam going to take a guess here and say your basing your opinion (Owens doing a better job of singing Painkiller) off of listening to shitty youtube videos instead of actually being in the crowd at a live show to make a comparison. I've seen them both do the song in person, including Halfords version just last summer in San diego which was impeccable. Your opinion holds no real weight but you do sound good when your saying nothing at all
@5345kennybarnwell Tim was good with Painkiller but he sings the verses with chest voice so if the guitars are tuned lower it makes the job easier... Rob sings everything in the original studio version with a head voice which is a harder job really and he does it this way live almost always... so it's hard to tell that Tim's better with it he makes it different though... The original Painkiller album version of those songs are tuned a lot higher than the live versions...
@5345kennybarnwell BTW Priest with Ripper went a few steps down with the tuning and thay stayed this way when Rob came back that's why Priest sounds a lot lower tuned than before the break in the early 90's....
@leunamme888 Yea Tim is a great singer technically maybe better now than Rob. Ripper sounds like a mix of Rainbow's/MSG/Alcatrazz Graham Bonnet and Pantera's Phil Anselmo in the lower chest tones, in head voice he sounds like Rob... Great singer... But Rob's voice has a better tone for my ears... so I prefer Rob after all XD Ripper would be a good singer for Queen IMO a lot stronger voice than Paul Rodgers...
@cbond99 Rob is the Metal God!!! Great singer and a marvelous songwriter don't forget that... Rob plays guitars and bass in the studio so he is a complete musician... Ripper wrote only one song with Priest "What's My Name" a bonus track for the Demolition CD... All Ripper era songs were written mostly by Glenn and Ken so thay need Rob in Priest really to reproduce the classic sound I guess...
@UpTheSnakes You're preaching to the choir brother. My comment was to leunamme888 for saying, " Halford doesn't have the voice he had then. Everything fades, that is sad.".....I wasn't talking about Ripper being better than any singer out today, I was referring to Halford. In my opinion, he hasn't lost a step at all as far as his voice goes.......

@UpTheSnakes That wasn't tim's fault, he tried contributing and they shut all of his ideas down, but Ripper also plays guitar and writes stuff for his solo career so he's no less of a musician
@KISSBeatle This is the trademark of Metal God!!!!!!!! This style of sreaming was discovered by Robert Plant and Ian Gillan in the early 70's though developed and adopted heaviely to heavy metal music by Rob Halford himself!!!
In 2004, Holland was found guilty of attempted rape and several indecent assaults against a mentally ill 17-year-old male to whom he had been giving drum lessons. He was sentenced to 8 years in prison, where he remains. Many people say that maybe he was framed by the parents of the child just to get his money but until this day nobody knows if it is true or not.
I could listen to Rob & Priest all day & nite.Rob "IMO" is the best ever. Not to mention Glenn,KK,Ian,Dave.Just a gr8 combination.Ever wonder why Dave left?I here he got into some kinda trouble.
Dave got tired of the leather and studs style, and the commercial way, Priest had been going since 1984. He left to reform his former rock band from the 70's, Trapeze, along with Glenn Hughes. In the mid 90's and onwards he has been working as a drum lecturer or something. He is now in prison for trying to have sex with a handicapped teenager in a wheelchair or something. A shame really! Dave was Priest's "classic" drummer. Simple, yet great style.
Undoubtedly in the top ten of all time great Priest songs. Criminally underrated, and one that I'd like to see them dust off and bring back into the setlist--at least once.
The most amazing live rock band ever. there are very few bands that are always consistent live. priest is one of them. Disturbed is also great live as well as STP
This is one of my best JP songs. It is great to see all the comments giving this group the recognition they never really got-even in there prime. I remember making a JP emplem out of aluminum in METAL SHOP class. I might still have it somewhere.
I agree mate, I bought Screaming For Vengeance at the same time, and for some reason just listened to that more. Defenders truly is AWESOME. This song is great, I also really like Heavy Duty/DOTF, even tracks like Jawbreaker, I didn't appreciate until a few listens. British Steel was pretty class, Point of Entry had a few good tracks, Screaming for Vengeance is a good no nonsense rocker, and Defenders experimented, and yet really lived up to the other stuf as well. Class album
For sure. I read they're doing Rock Hard Ride Free and Eat Me Alive from Defenders on tour this year. I'd rather hear Love Bites or The Sentinel but at least they're playing a couple of songs from it, which they haven't in a while. Saw them play Love Bites and The Sentinel on the Fuel For Life tour way back when.
I saw these guys back in 1982 at the Buffalo Auditorium, and im here to tell ya what a kickass concert that was. First laser light show i ever seen at a concert. words can't describe it!! Best concert i ever went to.
i ttally agree i was at the borgata show in atlantic city and these wo young kids were next to me totally blown aaaaawaaaaaayy by them they said to me this is the best concert i ever been to,........and i said and it always will be and they did desert plains for the first time in years at least with rob anyway a real treat psyched for the tour 2008 i be in front row if i gotta pay 500 a seat lol
I can dig it. The Priest has a lot of good material that does get overlooked. And yes, I really like their ballad-esque songs such as this one, as well as "Fever", which truly has a sexy, rockin' vibe. <3
love this song by priest it brings me back to the 80's when metal was METAL this is by far one of thier best songs but there are so many and i LOVE them all i will go see them everytime the play now that rob is back,.. thanks for this great video
Geez that voice is a weapon. I agree a very underated song. That last phrase always sends shivers down my spine. "And Im here all alooooooooooooone" ;-)
THat vid a piece of anthology. I didn't even know that they ever player that song in concert. It's simply awesome. Thank you very much for the great vid.

even though they kick ass live, i have to say that maiden top them as the very best live band, but priest still rule.

I can dig it. The Priest has a lot of good material that does get overlooked. And yes, I really like their ballad-esque songs such as this one, as well as "Fever", which truly has a sexy, rockin' vibe. <3

KK says that everybody keeps requesting older tracks, but the new catalogue may keep them busy. ^_0
