I'm glad to see a good amount of fellow republicans for Fred Thompson, I have to say hands down he reminds me most of Ronald Regan. He has good strong conservative values and is a strong leader and above all isn't a damn fence walker. Well, I'd really put Duncan Hunter after Thompson. But his candidacy is barely breathing.
Perhaps you do not understand WHY he voted against the tax cut. It was because the Republicans refused to cut SPENDING. Cutting SPENDING is more important than cutting taxes, to any conservative, and the Republicans in Congress refused. McCain tried to force them to cut spending by voting against the tax cut. It didn't work, but he made his point, and now he is getting attacked by Republicans for BEING CONSERVATIVE.
As to "big govt solutions," sometimes, yes, McCain does that. And I don't like it ... which is why Fred is ahead of McCain for me. You have someone better?
Actually, I like Mitt Romney better. But back to the tax cuts. I like the fact that McCain feels obligated to be a good stuard with our tax money, but how much the gov spends and how much they take from us are two different things. I think people immidiatly see a difference in their wallets when tax rates are higher.
The fact that McCain worries about keeping the gov's house in order instead of not caring about our wallets is indicitive of McCain's alligiance to the Senate 1st and America 2nd. It's not just McCain, all Senators past 12 years serving are like that.
It is not keeping the govt's house in order. It is OUR house, and OUR money. Keeping the govt's house in order IS caring about our wallets. Again, if McCain got his way, we'd have had the tax cuts ANYWAY, and would be seeing another tax cut today.
But if you cut taxes without cutting spending, then the effect is only temporary. Yes, tax cuts are good, and they helped the economy, briefly. But it's not very conservative to look for short term gain at the expense of long term pain. McCain understood that, and that's why he voted against the tax cut.
Put it this way: if McCain got his way, we would have cut spending AND taxes, and we would probably be looking at ANOTHER tax cut TODAY.
I understand where you are coming from. But McCain didn't recently say that fiscal splerging was a mistake, when pressed he said that the Bush tax cuts where a mistake. It's reveiling, don't you think? McCain walks his own path and is not a team player. But I know I will not convince you. I just hope the party doesn't try to redifine what conservatism means in this primary.
"McCain didn't recently say that fiscal splerging was a mistake,"
Yes, he did. He says it all the time. Even Club for Growth, which kinda hates McCain, said recently "McCain's zealous effort against wasteful spending deserves praise ... he has been at the forefront of the battle to eliminate wasteful projects and inject greater discipline and transparency into the appropriations process."
It it so nice to see adult political conversation youtube! Lonnie, these are all great reasons to support a canidate for President. My main concern is wether or not Fred Thompson can keep up a rigorous schedule as President in these trying times for eight years. Other than that FT is a solid canidate.
Just found your video, good job, I also am a strong supporter of Fred Thompson, and I agree that leading people to his website and to his policy plans is THE BEST WAY to show what this man is all about, unfortunately, an amazing amount of people have the attention span of a gnat and will pick whoever has the prettiest teeth, smiles the most and seems like they have been wanting to be President since conception. Praying for Fred and doing my part here in SC to spread the word about FRED!
For Iowa Fredheads this should help you find your caucus location: * Republican Party of Iowa's county map to help you find caucus locations. * The Iowa Secretary of State website can help find your precinct. NOTE: These polling places do not reflect caucus locations. * Fred's Iowa Headquarters phone number: 515-276-9427

Here's a report from Darrel Ng traveling with Fred: Just left our first event of the day and heading to our event in Council Bluffs. We had more than 225 loud and enthusiastic supporters chanting Fred's name during our first rally in West Des Moines. There's a real groundswell in the state and it makes those of us on the ground optimistic that we can "shock the world" as the Senator put it at the end of the rally and do really well tonight.
I like a lot of Fred's politics, I just don't think he's electable. I wish Duncan Hunter had more support. Now THERE'S a conservative patriot. People say Ron Paul is patriotic, and I believe he is. But not like Duncan.
kick butt, take names Lonnie!!! Fred rocks! Hillary is looking like 3rd in Iowa in a few hours. Hillary's minions are already gearing up for a 3rd place loss in Iowa. Drill this one home!!! FRED '08!!!!!
WHY I SUPPORT FRED THOMPSON FOR PRESIDENT VIDEO is a great Video. Thanks Lonnie.Go Fred.Hey Fred Heads look for a Video on Youtube called Fred Thompson Homecoming - John Rich of Big & Rich.
You make a strong and compelling argument my friend. I have no doubt in my mind that Fred Thompson is a strong conservative with strong potential to win. You and I have similar values and similar issue that are important to us and I am glad that you are there talking about them and how they relate to Thompson. I am still sorting out who is going to get my support but listening to Thompson talk I know that he is a strong contender in the race.
For that I am grateful and I am glad to see that he is running. I hope that he has a good showing come tomorrow and I know I will be watching him in Iowa with a keen interest as to how he does knowing though that his first show of strength, all things considered, will be South Carolina. At anyrate, good video and great arguments. Keep it up my friend
i'm so glad that CFR member Fred Thompson won't win the nomination. It makes me feel really relieved. Put your money on the most principled, Dr. Paul.
I just love Fred! good video. It ought to be obglitary listening! We have got so used to sound bites and rousing speaches that it takes insight to appreciate his low key approach. I hope the american people have the sophistication and inteligence so take advantage of this opportunity ....but don't hold your breath!
i like fred.. I really do but i dont think the guy went at it strong enough. In that case i have to go with Mitt. I will support whoever tho. McCain might be a tought pill to shallow
yeah I think Fred is 30 times better then Mitt because he is right on with issues like Immigration, education, etc. As someone who lived in Mass. and witnessed him govern our state I realized that he wasn't as conservative as I'd like him to be. That is why the liberals here let him be governor for so long. Mitt is still better then the democrats no doubt but I feel that the other rep. candidates are more consistent and don't flip flop so much. Fred is a pretty good example of that.
I still support Ron Paul because the root of our current problems right now involve our foreign policy. It's ruining the economy, and we can't sustain this. If we don't get our troops home, cut spending, and be fiscally conservative, all these other issues won't be solved.
WHY I SUPPORT FRED THOMPSON FOR PRESIDENT VIDEO is a great Video. Thanks Lonnie.Go Fred.Hey Fred Heads look for a Video on Youtube called Fred Thompson Homecoming - John Rich of Big & Rich.
wonder how many Iowans know that Thompson was endorsed by the Arkansas Republican Assembly (The Huckster's home State)? Makes me wonder WHAT Iowans actually look for in a candidate....Personally, I'm voting for the only real Conservative in the race. Go Fred!
ron paul's platform supports everything that you want in a president except for foreign policy
your problem is that you have equated terror with muslim. iraq never attacked america and not one single iraqi has EVER come to america to do harm. dr. paul voted to get al-queda and not to go around nation building like clinton and bush
Freddy is cutting and running from freedom. And don't speak like you are some kind of supporter of the law, if you are not obeying the constitution, you are a criminal.
Fred Thompson for President '08! There is only one choice and Fred Thompson is that choice! However I will vote for any Republican candidate except "Ron Paul"! 5 stars Lonnie and again thanks for your support of Fred Thompson!

I'm with Fred, Lonnie. But the only issue I can't get excited about is vouchers. I have no problem with vouchers, but I don't see them as the end-all-cure-all. Students need to take the initiative, put down the iPods, turn off the tube, and get motivated to learn. The problem to me is more cultural than systemic.
The only people making minimum wage are the unskilled and or uneducated. When you give {handout} these peple more then its only fair that everyone else gets more. This increases cost on all consumer products. These low income earners actually suffer more because of this. Pay them what they are really worth
"It is but equity... that they who feed, clothe, and lodge the whole body of the people, should have such a share of the produce of their own labor as to be themselves tolerably well fed, clothed, and lodged."
Succint and to the point! I hope the American people are courageous and noble enough to heed both this message and this analysis of Fred's qualities and so save America from the petty, selfish, short-sighted, self-seeking, cowardly, throw-in-the-towel democrats.
omg did you guys hear on CNN its Official Ron Paul dropped out check it out cnndotcom wow! I knew it was coming but I thought he would wait for the blowout next week wow
Amen brother! It's really a no-brainer when it comes to choosing a candidate to support. Fred Thompson is the ONLY conservative in the race. When Benjamin Franklin came out from drafting the Constitution, he was asked by a lady "What have you given us?" He replied "A republic, for as long as you can keep it." Protect the Constitution people.
Fred Thompson is not the only conservative in the race. What the hell are you talking about? Ron Paul is very conservative: 1)never voted for a tax hike--rich or poor 2)wants to get rid of the IRS and many departments, like the Department of Education and Department of Homeland Security 3)wants the free market to take over most servies run or subsidized right now by our government 4)wants to end our costly (in many ways) intervetnionalist ractice of policing the world.
You love distorting truths, don't you?! I just laid out four fact-filled reasons why Paul is a conservative and your only response is Paul's a leftist, completely ignoring the content of my argument. Just keep calling Paul a Hillary or an Obama. Watch "Freedom to Fascism" on Google video.
You have to admit Ron Paul has a big leftist appeal. The rhedoric from his supporters border on armed revolt and redistribution of weath- hardly conservative.
If you are a true follower of Goldwater conservatism, you would know that Barry promoted a foreign policy similar to Thompson's, not Ron Paul's Switzerland mentality. Goldwater said "As Americans and free people of this world, we must stand up to the tranny of dictators." I'm sure Ron Paul wouldn't agree with that statement.
So, you really think we went to war in Iraq to free the country from the tyranny of a dictator? Go watch "Buried 60 Minutes Interview" on YouTube. And I say "God bless Paul and his Switzerland mentality." Bush and the neocons have lied to us every step of the way in this so-called war on terror. It's a war on the middle class in this country. Our economy is about to collapse because of this stupid war.
See, at least Guiliani, Romney, McCain and the rest of the R.I.N.O.s are open and honest about the fact that they are "centralists" - more liberal than conservative.
Paul and his minions would have us believe he's a conservative in spite of his libertarianism.
You sound more like a John Edwards supporter than a Ron Paul supporter. I would disagree that the Iraq War is causing an economic slowdown. It's common knowledge that war production and military contracts stimulate the economy, not send it into a recession. Why do you think the stock market reached its highest levels this year? And people who think like John Locke would say we went to war to finally put an end to a brutal dictator.
My anti-war rhetoric may remind you of Edwards's, but it is not more like Edwards's than Ron Paul's. The Iraq War is lining the pockets of big oil, but the profits are not benefiting the American middle-class consumer. We are getting deeper and deeper into debt, borrowing money from China to fund this war.
And they hoard the money in secret coffers, right?-WRONG they do more R&D, employing independent firms, they tool up, employing machine shops and materials manufacturers, they give pay bonuses to employees, who pump money into the general economy. Your job is to figure out how to tap into the money flow. As a man, that is your job. Don't whine, just do.
The neocons don't care, for they want a system of corporate socialism that creates a have and have not society, which will lead to the further erosion of democracy and the formation of a world government. And I don't think you need to be convinced that we did not go to war to put an end to a brutal dictator. You know that's a ridiculous notion.
Fred Thompson isn't a neocon so you can go ahead and vote for him instead of Ron Paul. The amount of money we spend on our foreign policy is no where near the amount of money Washington wastes on social welfare programs. I'm talking about trillions of dollars wasted on entitlement programs like social security. Our foreign policy isn't as terrible as Ron Paul would have you believe. We do what's necessary to ensure our security and stability of the world.
Any Republican who wants to continue this fake war on terror is a neocon or neocon supporter. Any Democrat who wants to continue it is a neoliberal. Social welfare programs are a problem, and they need to be gradually reduced, but you don't have a clear grasp of how much money we spend on defense because you don't take into account the fact that the wars are not even a part of our defense budget--add war costs to the defense budget and you rival social welfare.
You don't really know what you're talking about. Neoliberal? Wikipedia says our entire miltary budget for 2007 is $439.3 billion. Our total federal budget for 2007 is about $2.90 trillion. It comes out to be only 15% of our total budget. And these numbers aren't including entitlement programs and debts of the federal government.
Please tell me you've heard the term "Neoliberal": hawkish liberals who support the military industrial complex and differ from neocons only in that the want to make less obvious the US project of global militarism. There's not doubt that entitlement programs hurt a lot in terms of increasing our debt. But it's a lot easier to first change our foreign policy.
"Any Republican who wants to continue this fake war on terror is a neocon or neocon supporter."
Dude, stop with the kool-aid speach, columbusclipper. Any time you throw out comments like that you sound really. . .brainwashed or immature, one of the two.
I already know Goldwater's son is endorsing Ron Paul. That doesn't mean Goldwater would endorse Paul. My roommate is a big Ron Paul supporter and he's the one who told me Goldwater is more like Thompson than Paul. Go ahead and read "Conscience of A Conservative" and get back with me and tell me if you think Goldwater has the same views on foreign policy as Ron Paul.
Ron Paul epitomises the frustrations of many Americans but he will not be able to do many of the things he wishes to do. Congress will not allow it. Also he is very wrong in the isolationism he envisions for America. The Extremists Muslims will not be satisfied with simply our withdrawal from Irac. They have sworn to continue their efforts until all the world is Muslim. The "return of the 12th Iman "will return" when the whole world is at war and in chaos...therefore the aim is to provoke war.
You are right about the fact that Congress will block a lot of the things Paul wants to do, but he'll get our troops out of Iraq and reduce the number of bases in the Middle East. Paul is not an isolationalist, because he's a free trader; he's only an isolationalist in terms of staying out of military entanglements. You are right: extremist Muslims are not satisfied with simply withdrawal--that's why we need to close bases in the region--i.e. get out of Saudi Arabia.
That's what I don't get about Ron Paul supporters. To make a wife beater behave you don't give him his way about how he wants to treat his wife. Similarly we don't reward bad behavior by capitulation to radical elements in the Middle East, especially when the heads of state WANT us there. If we abandon all bases around CENTCOM what will they ask for next? YES, they will want us to disarm Isreal or WE die. There is no pleasing them!
That's wild speculation, that if we abandon the bases around CENTCOM we will next have to disarm Israel or we'll have another terrorist attack. It's wild speculation to say "there is no pleasing them!" You don't know that. Our chances for being attacked on our own soil go way down if we pull out our troops. Plus, it's not our job to "reward" or punish. We are on their land. We need to go. Simple as that. We need to put our superior attitude on hold for it is making us broke.
I can see you don't know a thing about negotiations. Thats fine, its why you believe in the RP foreign policy, I get it. Just answer me when did the Muslims in the Mid East ever be happy and non-violent?-- never. One terrorist demand met is followed by another terrorist demand. You give them an inch, they want a mile. This old addage is true enough today as ever.
This is not about negotiations, Z8nate, this is about our principles of limited spending and limited constitutional governments. You so-called conservatives believe conservatism only applies to domestic policy and that we can spend an unlimited number of resources on wars and military bases.
It IS about negotiations. We have economic interests in an increasingly shrinking globe. Besides, Ron Reagan had troop levels much higher than we do now, are you saying he wasn't conservative? What was the cold war? It was the conservative possition to not let communism expand. This doesn't mean we flush money down the drain, but it does mean we protect our interests.
We can preserve economic interests without engaging in political negotiations. Ronald Reagan had troop levels higher, but he was not as much of an interventionalist than Bush. The wars he did wage, however, in Nicaragua was not necessary. We had no business in eliminating communist-style governments. Preventing the spread of communism is not a conservative position; conservatives just decided to adopt it because it was good for the corporations.
What is wild speculation is that if we comply with the radical jihadist demands they will suddenly lose their taste for blood and pack away the nail bombs and assault weapons.
To answer your rhetorical question: of course, there has been figting among the Muslims for thousands of years, but only since the formation of Israel has their hatred for us manifested itself. It is because of our military presence overseas that has given them the incentive to attack us.
I like Fred Thompson, he has great conservative ideals. I am still a bit reluctant because he dosen't seem to have the "fire in the belly" that some of the others do...although that might be a good thing.
I may change my mind; but in any case I will support our nominee.
Dear Paul supporters food for thought search your hearts and your souls and you know that Ron Paul will not get the nomination sorry but its true now think about it your choices are Flip Flopney (liberal) Tax Hike Mike (weak on taxes foriegn affairs) Rudy (Democrat) John McCain (Amnesty for iilegals) or Fred Thompson (True Conservative) The time is now make a choice!! Your support for Ron Paul is nothing more than a vote for Hillary or Obama !! Sorry no disrespect to Ron Paul just the facts !!!
Lonnie, I have TREMENDOUS RESPECT for you! I consider a great friend and a great American!!! I understand you like Fred, but he has never been in a position of executive power. He has never run a business, a state, or even a corner store. I have a great deal of respect for Thompson, he's a great man.
I would choose him any day over any of the dems. But I must disagree with you and part with you on this issue of who should be our nominee. I believe in Mitt Romney. Good luck my friend, may the best candidate win!!!
Fred Thompson may not have any executive experience, but he did head the Intelligence committee. He also has worked with Bush and Rice on many issues with National Security. Even though there is no executive experience, I think national security experience is more important, which he does have.
Advising and running are two very different things. I'm with ijones, I just don't endorse Senators or Congressmen for President in the primaries, they are much different animals than Governers. Though I will vote for any Republican nomanee. It's too important not to.
How in the world is a vote for Fred a vote for Hellary? I must be blind because I don't see how voting for Fred in the primary has anything to do with that broad. Actually,I think he has wide appeal issue wise, and can actually take some Dem votes away from her in the GENERAL election.
Well said. He definitely stands on the right side of the big issues for me. Iraq, guns and abortion are the three I'm most concerned about. I just wish he get more media coverage.
Fred is the perfect candidate for the Republicans,I hope we he gets elected. But we need to ban together no matter who is elected to prevent the democrats from being elected.
some say Fred isn't really interested in being president, he really only wants to take it easy and enjoy the rest of his life with family and friends.. although he often comes off as a laid back, easy going individual, he's clearly a solid rock of conservative values.. I hope he puts an end to the nasty rumors regarding his supposed lack of enthusiasm and drive.. absolutely Fred Thompson could stand head to head with Ronald Reagan if given the chance.
The social security funds was blown long ago lonnie...(watching the rest of your vid) i'm 29 and no matter what the gov. does I fell like I have to earn $200,000 a year to even think about saveing for retiarment. There is no SS for me and my family, anf this was a pronlem 15 years ago. what now????????
Blazinhieghts. 1964, LBJ and the congress and senate took and put the social security money into the general fund. I know what you are saying. But we must try something now if there is to be a chance.
I agree..... but what chance do you or I have? I just hope the gov can fix this so my infant sons children will someday benifit. I REAALLY don't think I or my son and daughters will benifit fron Social security. BTW Lonnie 5 star vid dude
Blazinheights, I am also 29, and I trust the gov to fix my problems like I trust a lawyer to tell the truth. Don't get depressed. Rush has it right when he says optamism is a catalyst for success. Today is the golden age for cottage industry! The internet is the mode to tell the world about your skills. I humbley suggest you read "Richest Man in Babylon" and "Think and Grow Rich." You wont need the gov to dish out retirement. Good luck!
At this day and time I ask how could you trust the gov. to think about social security when this same goverment is thinking about national security and spending trillions to fight a war that cannot be won or lost?
I don't trust the gov. It's up to us to be fiscally responsible for our own retirements. We need to eat the elephant one bite at a time. And even though the war on "terror" can't be won completely it can be lost if we do nothing.
Plus, we are going broke in this country in large part because of our military miliary empire overseas. I find it quite ironic that you don't trus the government for our retirements, but you trust the government to conduct our foreign policy wisely. Do you realize the billions of dollars we can save if we close down most of our military bases overseas?
Surrender? We are in a recession, we have already lost. Bin laden spent 5,000 bucks to bring a superpower into recession by exploiting Mr "whoop-ass"'es knee-jerk reaction. Now he's over there playing it like a slot machine that's about to pay off. He's like a crack head with a credit card. And so are anyone who thinks war will pay off.
Thompson should have been the nominee

Just found your video, good job, I also am a strong supporter of Fred Thompson, and I agree that leading people to his website and to his policy plans is THE BEST WAY to show what this man is all about, unfortunately, an amazing amount of people have the attention span of a gnat and will pick whoever has the prettiest teeth, smiles the most and seems like they have been wanting to be President since conception. Praying for Fred and doing my part here in SC to spread the word about FRED!

From Fred's WebSite:
Here's a report from Darrel Ng traveling with Fred: Just left our first event of the day and heading to our event in Council Bluffs. We had more than 225 loud and enthusiastic supporters chanting Fred's name during our first rally in West Des Moines. There's a real groundswell in the state and it makes those of us on the ground optimistic that we can "shock the world" as the Senator put it at the end of the rally and do really well tonight.

yeah I think Fred is 30 times better then Mitt because he is right on with issues like Immigration, education, etc.

Lonnie,
You made a compelling case, here's my question:
At 2:12 you mentioned that companies pay slave wages to illegal immigrants.
Wouldn't Fred Thompson want to abolish the Federal minimum wage, making slave wages legal for American citizens as well?
LoonyRonPaul 4 years ago
The only people making minimum wage are the unskilled and or uneducated. When you give {handout} these peple more then its only fair that everyone else gets more. This increases cost on all consumer products. These low income earners actually suffer more because of this. Pay them what they are really worth

Amen brother! It's really a no-brainer when it comes to choosing a candidate to support. Fred Thompson is the ONLY conservative in the race. Protect the Constitution people.
Brak2002 4 years ago 3
Fred Thompson is not the only conservative in the race. What the hell are you talking about? Ron Paul is very conservative: 1)never voted for a tax hike--rich or poor 2)wants to get rid of the IRS and many departments, like the Department of Education and Department of Homeland Security 3)wants the free market to take over most servies run or subsidized right now by our government 4)wants to end our costly (in many ways) intervetnionalist ractice of policing the world.

columbusclipper 4 years ago
Freedom to Fascism is an excellent movie. It is a must see.
selfTrust 4 years ago
You have to admit Ron Paul has a big leftist appeal. The rhedoric from his supporters border on armed revolt and redistribution of weath- hardly conservative.
Z8nate 4 years ago
If you are a true follower of Goldwater conservatism, you would know that Barry promoted a foreign policy similar to Thompson's, not Ron Paul's Switzerland mentality. Goldwater said "As Americans and free people of this world, we must stand up to the tranny of dictators." I'm sure Ron Paul wouldn't agree with that statement.
Brak2002 4 years ago 2
So, you really think we went to war in Iraq to free the country from the tyranny of a dictator? Go watch "Buried 60 Minutes Interview" on YouTube. And I say "God bless Paul and his Switzerland mentality." Bush and the neocons have lied to us every step of the way in this so-called war on terror. It's a war on the middle class in this country. Our economy is about to collapse because of this stupid war.
columbusclipper 4 years ago
See, at least Guiliani, Romney, McCain and the rest of the R.I.N.O.s are open and honest about the fact that they are "centralists" - more liberal than conservative.
Paul and his minions would have us believe he's a conservative in spite of his libertarianism.
tyeporter 4 years ago
You sound more like a John Edwards supporter than a Ron Paul supporter. I would disagree that the Iraq War is causing an economic slowdown. It's common knowledge that war production and military contracts stimulate the economy, not send it into a recession. Why do you think the stock market reached its highest levels this year? And people who think like John Locke would say we went to war to finally put an end to a brutal dictator.
Brak2002 4 years ago
My anti-war rhetoric may remind you of Edwards's, but it is not more like Edwards's than Ron Paul's. The Iraq War is lining the pockets of big oil, but the profits are not benefiting the American middle-class consumer. We are getting deeper and deeper into debt, borrowing money from China to fund this war.
columbusclipper 4 years ago
And they hoard the money in secret coffers, right?-WRONG they do more R&D, employing independent firms, they tool up, employing machine shops and materials manufacturers, they give pay bonuses to employees, who pump money into the general economy. Your job is to figure out how to tap into the money flow. As a man, that is your job. Don't whine, just do.
Z8nate 4 years ago
The neocons don't care, for they want a system of corporate socialism that creates a have and have not society, which will lead to the further erosion of democracy and the formation of a world government. And I don't think you need to be convinced that we did not go to war to put an end to a brutal dictator. You know that's a ridiculous notion.
columbusclipper 4 years ago
Fred Thompson isn't a neocon so you can go ahead and vote for him instead of Ron Paul. The amount of money we spend on our foreign policy is no where near the amount of money Washington wastes on social welfare programs. I'm talking about trillions of dollars wasted on entitlement programs like social security. Our foreign policy isn't as terrible as Ron Paul would have you believe. We do what's necessary to ensure our security and stability of the world.
Brak2002 4 years ago
Any Republican who wants to continue this fake war on terror is a neocon or neocon supporter. Any Democrat who wants to continue it is a neoliberal. Social welfare programs are a problem, and they need to be gradually reduced, but you don't have a clear grasp of how much money we spend on defense because you don't take into account the fact that the wars are not even a part of our defense budget--add war costs to the defense budget and you rival social welfare.
columbusclipper 4 years ago
You don't really know what you're talking about. Neoliberal? Wikipedia says our entire miltary budget for 2007 is $439.3 billion. Our total federal budget for 2007 is about $2.90 trillion. It comes out to be only 15% of our total budget. And these numbers aren't including entitlement programs and debts of the federal government.
Brak2002 4 years ago 2
Please tell me you've heard the term "Neoliberal": hawkish liberals who support the military industrial complex and differ from neocons only in that the want to make less obvious the US project of global militarism. There's not doubt that entitlement programs hurt a lot in terms of increasing our debt. But it's a lot easier to first change our foreign policy.
columbusclipper 4 years ago
Look up the tern "neoliberalism" on Wikipedia. You'll notice it means something totally different from what you are saying.
Brak2002 4 years ago
"Any Republican who wants to continue this fake war on terror is a neocon or neocon supporter."
Dude, stop with the kool-aid speach, columbusclipper. Any time you throw out comments like that you sound really. . .brainwashed or immature, one of the two.

Snowden45 4 years ago
You are right about the fact that Congress will block a lot of the things Paul wants to do, but he'll get our troops out of Iraq and reduce the number of bases in the Middle East. Paul is not an isolationalist, because he's a free trader; he's only an isolationalist in terms of staying out of military entanglements. You are right: extremist Muslims are not satisfied with simply withdrawal--that's why we need to close bases in the region--i.e. get out of Saudi Arabia.
columbusclipper 4 years ago
That's what I don't get about Ron Paul supporters. To make a wife beater behave you don't give him his way about how he wants to treat his wife. Similarly we don't reward bad behavior by capitulation to radical elements in the Middle East, especially when the heads of state WANT us there. If we abandon all bases around CENTCOM what will they ask for next? YES, they will want us to disarm Isreal or WE die. There is no pleasing them!
Z8nate 4 years ago
That's wild speculation, that if we abandon the bases around CENTCOM we will next have to disarm Israel or we'll have another terrorist attack. It's wild speculation to say "there is no pleasing them!" You don't know that. Our chances for being attacked on our own soil go way down if we pull out our troops. Plus, it's not our job to "reward" or punish. We are on their land. We need to go. Simple as that. We need to put our superior attitude on hold for it is making us broke.
columbusclipper 4 years ago
I can see you don't know a thing about negotiations. Thats fine, its why you believe in the RP foreign policy, I get it. Just answer me when did the Muslims in the Mid East ever be happy and non-violent?-- never. One terrorist demand met is followed by another terrorist demand. You give them an inch, they want a mile. This old addage is true enough today as ever.
Z8nate 4 years ago
This is not about negotiations, Z8nate, this is about our principles of limited spending and limited constitutional governments. You so-called conservatives believe conservatism only applies to domestic policy and that we can spend an unlimited number of resources on wars and military bases.
columbusclipper 4 years ago
It IS about negotiations. We have economic interests in an increasingly shrinking globe. Besides, Ron Reagan had troop levels much higher than we do now, are you saying he wasn't conservative? What was the cold war? It was the conservative possition to not let communism expand. This doesn't mean we flush money down the drain, but it does mean we protect our interests.
Z8nate 4 years ago
We can preserve economic interests without engaging in political negotiations. Ronald Reagan had troop levels higher, but he was not as much of an interventionalist than Bush. The wars he did wage, however, in Nicaragua was not necessary. We had no business in eliminating communist-style governments. Preventing the spread of communism is not a conservative position; conservatives just decided to adopt it because it was good for the corporations.
columbusclipper 4 years ago
What is wild speculation is that if we comply with the radical jihadist demands they will suddenly lose their taste for blood and pack away the nail bombs and assault weapons.
Z8nate 4 years ago
To answer your rhetorical question: of course, there has been figting among the Muslims for thousands of years, but only since the formation of Israel has their hatred for us manifested itself. It is because of our military presence overseas that has given them the incentive to attack us.
columbusclipper 4 years ago
I like Fred Thompson, he has great conservative ideals. I am still a bit reluctant because he dosen't seem to have the "fire in the belly" that some of the others do...although that might be a good thing.

I don't trust the gov. It's up to us to be fiscally responsible for our own retirements. We need to eat the elephant one bite at a time. And even though the war on "terror" can't be won completely it can be lost if we do nothing.
