PRV, for all those of you that don't know, is the acronym standing for "Peugeot-Renault-Volvo," which meant any of the PRV-branded engines could be found in any Peugeot, Renault or Volvo car. Volvo abandoned its share of the PRV collective by 1990 since it wanted to concentrate on its in-house inline engines, although the PRV V6 continued with Citroen taking Volvo's shares of the collective, until the PRV series V6 was discontinued after 970,315 units made in June 1998.
Yes, the E 320 had all the bells and whistles, I wish it was a manual, but I don't believe they were sold here since the 124 "facelift" from 1994-1995. My aunt purchased a 1985 300TD wagon with my uncle, and they are "restoring" it, I love the W123 models. I am on Benzworld, and if I have any questions about my Mercedes, I can just ask it and a bunch of different people can answer it and help me out, If you ever had a question about your 123, create an account and go on there, Many nice people!
im from sweden and i hate volvo and saab. i only drive mercedes which is the only car you can truly rely on, i would drive anywhere in my -83 70hp 240Diesel without hecitate.
@coolakiIlen007 I love Volvo! (and certain saab models) I own a 2000 S70, My aunt drives a 1988 760 GLE just like this one, but it is blue. My volvo is a very reliable car, and the one my aunt has, has about 247K on the clock, and still runs very nicely! I do have to agree with you about older Mercedes being very reliable, I love my Mercedes!
@halfwit134 cool, man. we had a -86 Volvo 245 and had to pour coffee on it for it to start after been turned off in the winter. otherwise descent car, the only volvo i would pay money for. what mercedes you got?
@coolakiIlen007 I think I told you before but to refresh your memory : 1992 190E 2.3, 1999 E320 3.2, and the 2000 S70. I used to have a 1994 E320 W124, but about 4 months ago some drunk driver T-boned me in it
I love that car, it saved my life, but I have been unsuccessful at find another, and the E320 I have now, I got for a really good deal. How about your uncle's (or grandfather's I cannot remember) W124? By the way, have your ever heard of BenzWorld?
@halfwit134 ah, great cars there, we had a -94 E 320 aswell! but with manual getrag sport gearbox and no other equippment than a sunroof. :) im guessing yours must've been like full of electrics and leather right? ;) we also had a -00 270cdi a year ago, great strong and torquey car!
heh my grandpas 230E still sits, still works. i wanted to restore it, maybe next summer or something. my grandpa dont think its worth it though and i need his help.. :P
yes thats true is a common problem whit rust on by the wheels i got my B230FT 760 turbo 89" it looks like that nobody have driven it its all clean and goes like a oiled lighting :D
they sure have a extremely good ride quality and comfort level as well, I had one that was driven by an older couple since it was new and it was amazing apart from the engine which was a B230K...
thanks for the review / overview. im getting one from someone my brother knows, so it helps with what im about to get in to. ill try to post a video of it when i get it.
I belive that u have a B280F in your Volvo 760 GLE, and u have the new headlights that only is on the export models... here in sweden we dont have the same headlights that u have. This new 760 model came on the market 1988 here in Sweden, and Volvo did put out a Turbo Diesel for Export to USA, Canada and Germany, The 760 GLE from year 1988 Turbo Diesel with the VW D24 TD was never on the swedish market.
IPD sells great OEM and upgraded parts for this car. I'd recommend the $100 headliner replacement, or you may be able to just restick yours, it's only up there with 3M spray adhesive. Then you could fix the sunroof, and just keep the car in full working order. It's worth it. I'm restoring an '86 740GLE with 312,000 miles on it that still runs like new, with the B230F engine. Just fix one thing at a time here and there and keep it on the road forever man!
Good to see a guy enjoying his Volvo. I have just bought one of these for $500 so it was good to hear the positive feedback...all except the poor fuel consumption 18mpg?? My God !
all i have to say is that, i like volvo's i oown a 2005 s80 twin turbo, v6 awsome car. and that lil volvo is nice for its day, but is it fuel injected!! i didnt see a carb.
Parts are expensive when compared to other cars in its year. I just rebuild my 760 2.3Turbo engine, I noticed these cars have problems with the exhaust manifold studs (they break) so I rethreaded the head (exhaust) from 8mm to 10mm and got rid of the turbo locks etc. car runs perfect now.
reason being, the 900's were made form 1991, the 760 was made till 1991, hence they got the same front end to bring it up to date, and still be in style when the new model (940/960) came out. now you can even fit the late 960 front ends to a 760 as the bonnet/hood is the same as the 940, and of course the 760 88 onwards, all you need to changes is the wings and the lights ect.
Yes, the 700's and the 900's are basically the same car. But, actually, the 740 was made until 1992, so during -91 and -92 both the 700's and the 900's were being manufactured. Amazingly, the old 200-series survived until 1993.

Diesel is a Diesel, and a Turbo without Diesel is a normal Gasoline Guzzler.

I have never seen this kind of headliner problem on a Volvo before and i live in Sweden and see those cars every day.
But i know on older Saab´s this is a very common problem.
Another thing: Change engine oil often and never run the engine hot.

B28 V6, actually a Renault engine.
But i look at your interior, is it from a earlier 960? Or was it orginal for 760 88mod->?
I have an 86mod 760, and i have the 740 interior.
And like MitsubishiKings says; Volvo had disc brakes already in 1972, they was also the first with disc brakes..
I have also an 76mod 244, disc brakes all over. :)

as far as i'm aware, the Citroen DS of 1955 was the first to have disc brakes
veyronman 4 years ago
yep Citroen DS had disc brakes and power everything. in 1955 waaay more advanced than anything.
My 1971 saab 99 had 4 wheel disc brakes, heated seats and those little h/lamp wipers.
