Hind sight is 20/20, however if you follow "stealth" to the letter of the law, you wouldn't let those guy's go. War is unemotional. I thank God that Luttrell lived through the SEAL operation that had gone awry; Operation Redwing, and that Lt. Michael Murphy was awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions. If you haven't done so, I highly recommend reading Marcus' autobiography "Lone Survivor." These are the guys who deserve unending respect and publicity, not Michael Jackson.

The ROE question is legit, but ultimately these guys made the call. It is impossible for any of us to judge. The times had a great story on LT Murphy and his penchant for being looking out for others when he was growing up.
I agree, Michael Murphy's parents only ever received one call home from school. And it was because Michael had gotten into a fight defending a disabled kid that was being greatly picked on by a much larger, non-disabled kid. A hero since birth Michael was.
And what he couldnt mention on live television, (he had to say he blacked out) was the Axe didnt die right away, he got hit in the left side of his head and it blew away some of his skull and head tissue. He was still breathing but barely concious but kept on giving covering fire and his last word to Marcus were, "You stay alive, Marcus. And tell Cindy I love her."

It was a story about a marine and his fellas being ambushed, and they went to find the nearest house to "slaughter innocent civilians". Of course they tried to cook the marine in the interview. If Axe made the call, and Marcus said Murphy did, don't you think someone from his base at the time would confront him about a conflicting story? I like skeptics, it shows you can think for yourself, but if you can't trust this guy, who would you trust? Truth is 3 SEALs died and i guarantee you it took more than 10-15 guys to kill them.

Because of his unfailing tenacity, Luttrell seems to me to be every bit as much of a miracle man as Lance Armstrong. I thank God that Luttrell lived through the SEAL operation that had gone awry; Operation Redwing, and that Lt. Michael Murphy was awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions. If you haven't done so, I highly recommend reading Marcus' autobiography "Lone Survivor." These are the guys who deserve unending respect and publicity, not Michael Jackson.

It's amazing...ok, sure, out of war comes many fucked up stories and experiences, but you gotta love how america manages to turn it's military fuck-ups into glorious stories of heroism..every single time. Just look at the battle of mogadishu and how much money is made, and patriotism bred, over simply retelling a story of (yet another) military blunder on america's behalf. I have no idea what country you reside in, but I can assure you, I lose no sleep over our military being in Afghanistan. Iraq is a different story, but as far as I and many other Americans are concerned, we have every right to hunt down the individuals responsible for 9/11. Again, I don't know what country you are a citizen of, but I sincerely doubt your government would let a terrorist attack on the scale of 9/11 slide.

As I said before, Iraq is a different story. But Afghanistan? Let's be serious, the country has no strategic value to US interests, it's landlocked, and one of the most impoverished places in the world long before we went in. Quite frankly, we have no other reason to be there than to fight al-Qaeda, because otherwise, the country is worthless. But whatever, there's really no point to fighting on the internet, because this could drag on interminably.

Don't discredit his story man.. come on.. that is extremely low.. Military intelligence reported anywhere between 80 to 200 taliban fighters. Don't disrespect him. He had been through more in that one day than most of us would be put through in a lifetime.. and he and his team fought and fought under such cool heads and calm wits.. I'm not discrediting the story, i'm just saying some of the 'facts' you find coming out of these sort of stories are often bended. Look at the Bravo Two Zero story...turns out McNab's account was highly exaggerated (to get his book to sell better, amongst other reasons).
All i'm saying is i've read numerous articles and seen many reports of Operation Red Wing and the 'estimated enemy count' is different in each one.
I would more believe a figure of 30-50 taleban.

And what he couldnt mention on live television, (he had to say he blacked out) was the Axe didnt die right away, he got hit in the left side of his head and it blew away some of his skull and head tissue. He was still breathing but barely concious but kept on giving covering fire and his last word to Marcus were, "You stay alive, Marcus. And tell Cindy I love her."

Man I wasn't really understanding his deep hatred of "liberal media" at the beginning of the book, but then it came through crystal clear last night on 60 minutes. It was a story about a marine and his fellas being ambushed, and they went to find the nearest house to "slaughter innocent civilians". Of course they tried to cook the marine in the interview. Marcus was so right.
