gene doping could actually cure HIV/AIDS. The thing is that they don't wan't to give to the people because it would be expenssive, and they actually earn more money on selling those drugs that only slows down HIV/AIDS.
ALl the gene stuff is hormone therepy, test, EPO gene, etc. You can do that with conventional drugs, you dont need some experimental stuff that will make you sick. Being able to change the actualy make up of your body is long ways away....
As an aside, 4.5 Billion dollars from Congress goes to Cancer research.
22 Billion goes to HIV/AIDS which is MUCH less common than cancer...
Gene therepy has been going on in athletics for a long time, first clinical trials in the Netherlands back in 1991. Look at Armstrong, and others for that matter. The amount of money flowing through pro sports in the last 25 years is going somewhere besided Ferrari's and plasma TVs. I would think the majority of pro athletes are on more than just conventinal drugs these days.
i think if it can be used to cure something it should be but if the person ordering the drug wants it just to be the best at something and are abusing it, it should be off limits to them...

Are people really suggesting that because they don't want athletes to "abuse" it that they are willing to sacrifice the people whose life might be saved by the exact same therapies? Really!? How noble! Please, can I have one of those people as my doctor.
It is not just about athletes abusing the gene manipulation, but about the ramifications on society at large. Gene therapy is perfectly fine if confined to medical therapy. However, when gene therapy becomes gene doping, where is the line drawn? People could enhance themselves into dangerous territory. That is where this documentary takes place, in the realm of doping, not therapy.

I am studying genetics at university and I have to say that a lot of the stuff in this looks like utter crap.
Firstly, it is not possible to cure all diseases by gene therapy as this video states. Some diseases have nothing to do with genetics.
Also, reliable and successful gene therapy is much much further away than this video makes it seem. There are some massive obstacles to overcome yet.
My lecturer said a guy in a gene therapy trial actually died at the university in this video.
