  • Travel in Stygian ftmfw.

  • hey dude can you please tell me how you setup your channel?

i've got a engl special edition and i'm having some problems, i just cant get the tone out of it that i'd like to have

  • @blackseeds666 you cant go wrong with all of the knobs on noon even. turn the two gains up to maybe 1 or 3 o'clock

  • dude how would u say the engl compares to the 5150 u have under it

  • @emodudee engl is more organic and tight. 5150 is more buzzy and less defined on the low end and overall more gainy in a negative way. 5150 is 2nd place, but its not really a bad second place.

  • Are they still available?

  • @TokiTheSlayer no bu the Savage is and it sounds basically the same

  • This amplifier sound great !!!! Nice Megadeth and Slayer part ;-)

  • friggen amazing tone, one of the best metal tones ive heard period

  • Nice, Iced Earth!

    Only the best riffage

  • could you help me out. I have the same amp but i can't find this thing out. I have touched and tried all buttons and knobs but, when i got it, it had a nice tone, but when i tried some things and ofcourse forget what i touched, now, it doesn't even hit distortion, every channel on my Engl Z-10 footswitch sounds like a clean channel. please help me out.

  • Midi or tube problem? Change the channels manually, get a new midi cable.... Process of elimination?

  • Could the tube driver be turned on? It basically overrides the other EQ's. I don't have this amp, but from what I've learned about it, it's a possibility

  • @battleaxe969 i would try unplugging the footswitch from the back of the amp, with the amp off. after that, manually change channels on the amp itself, confirming each change with the respective led lighting up each time you change to a channel. also ensure on the back that you have nnothing in the fx loop plugged in and the FX loops' levels set to 0

  • Do you think the savage could get whitechapel/acaia strain type tones?

  • iced earth ftw

  • is there a bugera under your savage? ^^

  • 5150

  • oh my god :D i got byd votes for my question... Just because some Peaveyusers are goiung crazy if someone asks if this amplifier a bugera is... Btw the owner of the amp modded the amp. So as peaveyuser you should see that there normally is a black wall which hides the interior of the amp... by the way without this wall he looks like the bugera... ok... this little part you can see looks like the bugera and by the way normally the edgecovers from the pavey are black and this are shiny... -.-

  • 5150. i put chrome corner covers on it and a custom flame pattern around the border on the inside

  • yeah but this little part which I can see from it is very similar to a bugera ^^ Btw this changes are sounding interesting... have you a clip or pictures of the modded stuff?

  • sure, go to google, type "5150 retolex face" without the quotes and click the first link. should be my article that wolfgangregistry posted

  • Are you using any type of power break? like a hot plate? I ask because I can hear string slap in the background and it seams to be really overdriven? I would really like to find out because this is kind of what I am looking for!

Monster amp by the way! i'm looking at the regular savage I would love to get the se but 4G is a little steep for me.

  • @ESPsandEmgs actually this isnt an SE. its a savage SE which i just sold for about 1700. but the regular savage sounds the same pretty much. no power break or anything; this thing sounds great at low volumes and even better at high. the string slap is because of the low volume and my proximity to the camera

  • you had any problems out of your EH tubes? dude i ordered 6 new ones, had 1 go micro in less than 4 hours of play, and the other FOUR tubes went out 3 months later after a warm up. just wondering your experiences with them. i use all JJ's now btw, killer tubes.

  • no dont think ive had any problems with these. i think i need some new power tubes though.. the other day at practice the volume slowly got softer over the course of 10 - 20 seconds, then bounced back to normal. but the JJ powertubes i have are literally 4 years old

  • Hell yeah! Pull me under!!!

  • hell yeah, sounds like a fucking engl to me

  • damn dude nice amp...however shitty speaker cab...it would sound better if you had a better speaker set up for that high dollar bad boy. line 6 sucks, and only those who have played killer tube amps know what i'm talkin' bout!

  • agreed. but it gets the job done for home jamming. no need selling it for maybe 100 bucks and spending the dough to get a real 2x12

  • that tone is a killer!

  • Great tone, just love the sound, gonna check it out asap ^^

  • Yeahhh!!! Great tone...But do you use an overdrive in front of the amp? Or it's just the amp?

    Thanks

  • thanks. it's the amps distortion. please read the more info section

  • Fantastic sound. I enjoyed hearing you play Travel in Stygian. I am looking to get an Engl, probably Savage. How close do the Savage S.E. and the Savage 120 come sound wise? Thanks, and nice playing.

  • thanks. sorry i am not sure how the savage SE and the regular savage compare exactly. im sure the core tone is there. the savage SE just has more bells and whistles it seems. but i have never played a regular savage.

  • Hey, great sound man dfig the tone, I bought an ENGL Powerball not too long ago and so far it has not let me down both on stage and in the studio. I love my ENGL! I recommend that everyone looking into a new amp buy one or at least try it out and get blown away for yourself!

  • yea they arent mainstream so a lot of people have never heard of them. i've only seen one local band here with one (powerball) out of the couple hundred band's we've played with

  • PERFECT tone :D Heard some Iced Earth and Dream Theater in there, nice. Your tone is as good as Jon Schaffers IMO

  • Iced Earth:D

  • This is ridiculously sick. Awesome tone.

  • these engls really are the shit for low-volume playing. ive had it at home on the 2x12 in the video and at bedroom levels the tone is wonderful. (its great loud too)

  • i played through a fireball today, and i was blown away...

unfortunately they didn't have one of these, so i was just wondering what you thought of it.

  • i hear the fireball models are great. not as feature-packed as some of the engls but the tone which is the important part is supposed to be nice.

    they dont make mine anymore

  • im hoping this is low volume cuz i dont hear any breakup

  • very low volume. you can hear my picking in the background

  • it's low. also, who cares. breakup is so overrated in metal...where most of the distortion and crunch comes from the PREAMP gain. the only reason some amps sound thin and shitty at lower volumes is because the power tubes aren't cooking so there isn't a lot of saturation to get the distortion out of a thin weak state...tho a cranked power section goes hand in hand with breakup

  • ya the crunch comes from the preamp gain, no shit, but i dont hear any break up from the tubes at all. preamp or poweramp, they both sound different when they're cooked.

  • silent scream :P

  • pull me under

  • what would u say was the difference between this and the invador dunno what one to upgrade to?

  • I have a Road King II and am looking more at ENGL now because I have really started to face facts that the Mesa doesn't have much tightness for leads or much anything else and this amp just sounds smooth yet bludgeoning!

  • That's a nice sounding amp, my freind!! Would you recomend the savage 120 over the Powerball?? I wanna get an Engl but I have to make my mind up yet. Nice playing, by the way. Cheers.

  • i think the powerball is more aggressive and pised off sounding. but a lot of people like the savage. try to hear some clips and note the differences.

  • Cool, I will!! I also heard great stuff on Diezels and obviously Mesas, but you know, their astronomical prices don't really fit my budget. I own a 5150 wich I'm a nit tired of. Keep it up, dude. Greetings!!

  • omg iced earth, megadeth, slayer!!! this was a great heavy review:)

BTW in addition to larry amps SCHAFFER USES ENGL AMPS TOO and friedman now is an engl user!

  • nice ear! also some dream theater

  • Great Amp dude and great riffing ;)

  • GAS

  • FAIL.

  • i'd like to point out that this guy went to about 5 of my videos of different things and posted similar negative comments. why? i'm not sure. maybe a secret jealous admirer.

  • what are the names of the 4 channels of this amp?

is it like, a powerball with an extra 20 watts?

  • clean & crunch 1, crunch 2 & lead. its really two channels with a crunch switch but you can access all 4 modes with the switch. its really overkill for me because i dont use the other channels much. its pretty similar to the powerball but with WAY more options.

  • i want an engl with over 100 watts that has 2 lead channels like the powerball, does one exist?

  • haha why over 100 watts? you'd have to play in drop A with subwoofers hooked up to saturate the power amp tubes at any more than 100 watts. you dont need more than about 40 watts (tube) per 4x12 cab in regular tuning

  • exactly, i have a savage 60 and those 60 watts are more than enough. it easily competes with the powerball of my bandmate.

  • Savage 120? :P

  • hi again. i want a nice hard rock and metal sound. can you best explain difference tone wise in el34 and 6l6 besides 6l6 being more bassy punch in your face an del34 more middy type evh sound? i like your sound, but i like others as well just wondering. thanks.

    -Tony

  • hey man. im not the best person to help you on this. try some message boards or websites. typically i think 6L6 is more of a modern metal tube

  • i've had enough kaboomgoo. you're blocked. theres criticism, and then theres just being a dick to a dick. i'll be posting this on my other videos you felt the need to bash as well.

  • i found out kaboomgoo was my friend who decided to fuck with me hah

  • would engl amps sound good for neo classical kind of stuff? i know theyre amazinf for metal and heavy shit but i was wondering if they sound good for that yngie malmsteen, gentaro, rob marcello kind of stuff?

  • Absolutely!

My friend owned the same amp as me (Savage 120) and it can indeed do that neoclassical sound as well

  • That sounds insanely awesome

  • cool amp.sounds good

  • cool thanks. i realize the quality is shitty, but i think it at least really picks up the "bite" of the amp that you hear in person

  • i love the zakk wylde boost pedals they kick ass.

  • oh ok.. thanks for the info man.. what tubes were you using for this vid??

  • sure. i believe JJ tesla power tubes. a mix of electro-harmonix and jj preamp tubes

  • the special edition is called the Savage Special Edition.. I thought it was just the Special Edition..

  • you are thinking of the E670 aka Engl SE. that is not the same amp as this

e660 = engl savage special edition

    e670 = engl se

my amp the E660 is discontinued. the E670 is the next step up incorporating more sounds into a more versatile amp and much more expensive.

  • ohh ok.. thanks for the info man.. does the engl savage special edition have el 34 or 6l6 tubes??

  • apparantly it can do both. i believe you have to change the fuse ratings. im having trouble getting answers on that. if you're lucky enough to get an answer from engl germany they can help you

  • how much does one of these baby's cost?

  • i bought it for 1700 USD used in may

  • Thats a great deal for that amp. It's a very nice amp though. I bought me a Mesa Boogie around 6 months ago. I was in between an ENGL and a Mesa but I decided on the Mesa.

  • cool what model?

  • I got a Rectoverb which is the Single Recto combo.

  • A complete new one costs around 3000 €.

  • Nvm about the cab, didn't read your info.

    Nice job, once again.

  • Sounds awesome, what cab were you using?

You've got some insane picking skills, too ;)

  • that's a Iced Earth song your playing right the song "Storm Riders"

  • the only iced earth that i played was the intro and middle of travel in stygian starting at 31 seconds

  • i heard that ENGL has lots of gain (i can see) but dosent have any bassy balls, is this true?

  • yea dude its got tons of balls. the savage SE has a "deep boost" switch on here that really puts out some bass. i have a genz benz g-flex cabinet (has 4 ports at the bottom like a car subwoofer) which makes it probably one of the best cabs for low end stuff. i had it off for this video because im in an apartment. i believe the SE has a "mega low punch" button that im sure would do the same thing.

  • It does have a nice tone
