  • Ridicolous!

  • Where was this performed?

  • What a discovery.. All the Czech and Slovak Names … truly impressive performance so live .. not only musically expressive but also in the movement of the performers… superbly coordinated … Bach with touch of romanticism? Remarkably beautiful. … loved the rendition “Fecit potentiam in brachio suo, dispersit superbos mente cordis sui.” Jednoducho nadherne!

  • Latin in schools is pronunciated different from the latin in church. Every language has a different way of making latin sound more like their own, because we have no recordings of the epoch. So what any individual prefers, is probably the most familiar sound.

  • What an excellent performance this is! I particularly enjoy the "fleet" tempi, the clear articulation of divisions, and the fact the everyone seems clearly to be enjoying himself! Special mention must go to the tenor who deserves a prize for his handling of "Deposuit" -- I have never heard it performed at that clip and with such each and clarity!

Thank-you so much for posting this!

  • Tte text is pronounced correctly by 1704 singers, but Latin pronunciation is distorted by sound compression in youtube.

  • @mereni Depends on what you consider to be correct. They are using an Italianate pronunciation (e.g., "fecit" = "fay-chit"), which is not at all what would have been heard in Leipzig or anywhere else in Saxony (where "fecit" = "fay-tsit"), not even at the Catholic court of the Saxon Elector in Dresden. Italianate pronunciation is not at all correct for a historically informed performance of this piece.

  • @1banders These singers and this Magnificat I've heard in the concert halls in Prague and in Dresden. They sang in Latin completely without s.c. . Italianate pronunciation. This "pronunciation" is caused by sound compression in youtube. Similarly is garbled sound on CDs and DVDs. Perfect pronunciation only allows LP, SACD or DVD-Audio.

  • A great performance.

  • yeah, actually Magnificat

  • Thanks a lot!

I've uploaded recent concerts by Collegium 1704 and other excellent Czech ensembles myself (Zelenka) but your videos are difficult to surpass. Keep up the good work!

  • Thank you so much my friend. Was 1704 in Barcelona?
