I am going to completely rebuild my 2003 trek 4900 because I just destroyed all of the components on it. the only things I will not replace are the frame, stem, and handle bars
you need to replace bottom bracket dude.. you might even want to get a whole new crankset or upgrade to nicer 2 piece one...Get a book on bike repair from a store or library, then get the few necessary tools to replace bottom bracket.. Its cheaper than goin to a mechanic and then you'll always have the tools.. and know how..

also watch plenty of your tube videos on bike repair.. a few are pretty helpful...
