Thank you mmontana, for posting all these great videos of a genius at work. I agree with your statement that make our garden grow, is not the best general song at all, it's Barbra's singing it and, mostly, that last LONG note that make it standout. "Moonfall" I find irresistible, and I think her reading of it is impeccable, really wish I could buy it! thanks again! M.
@zachdunc18 i think this was intended for b2b ... rupert holmes was involved in this project ... you could see the hairstyle is different, and she's singing at a different studiio...
Nope, you’re wrong. These are from the unreleased sessions recorded at MGM-Lorimar Recording Studios, Culver City, CA, on April 14, 15, 21, 1988. There is an entire page devoted to these sessions on Matt Howe’s amazing Barbra-archives site.
@hbotis Celine Dion. Only Barbra and Celine can make music this beautiful and deep. They're also the only white women that can hit these notes lol. David Foster even said only Celine can be the next Barbra Streisand :)
one main reason for not releasing any of these songs is that, put simply, the recordings are scratchy and slightly out of tune... she probably wants to try again with some better equipment... although if she was ever going to rerecord it would have happened while she could still attain her famous 19 sec belt
@MrDtsikorski I disagree with you on this. This video was intended so that her producer, Rupert Holmes, could SEE her, as she was in the booth and he was with the orchestra. "“She was so far away from me, the remedy I came up with was to have a TV camera in the vocal booth ... I had a huge monitor by me so it was better than having her stand right next to me. I could see her face so closely so we were able to cut off [the orchestra] correctly" RH
...With the exception of "Heather On The Hill/ Glocca Mora", which is pure genius, and "Moonfall", which almost makes the mark, most of these arrangements simply aren't up to her usual standards at that time. The melodies were not fully worked out to best compliment her voice (primarily the descending scale pattern of "On My Own" and this song, which, aside from the big finish, it is sort of abysmal.
Omg, that was unbelieveable, i love it when she's done doing the 19 second belt she's like all tired and stuff, and i think she rolled her eyes haha I love barbra!
Thank you SOOOO much for posting this!!! I saw it on YouTube years ago, and have been trying to find it again since. Why all these takes have never been released baffles me. There is no overhead cost of CDs anymore if they are just digitally available, and these performances are works of art that should be available. Thanks again!!!
When she is singing with the orchestra in the studio she often begins leading the musical director leading the orchestra to move the tempo. She's done this from way back when and it has always to me been charming. I can tell you that in the studio she is the complete professional in eve try way, and with that goes respect for the conductor and the musicans. Thatt's why she's worked with so many of the same talented people for years. They want to work with her.
