and here i thought they NEVER played this song live. maybe not in concert? i used to have a guide to ZEPPELIN bootlegs book back in the late 80's. pretty sure this song and In The Light was the only 2 songs never played live off PG
If I could find the 'Beer Meister..from PVille, Chicago Burbs Il".??? I would share this w/ him! He would LOVE it! !!!! Love u Brian wherever the F u R?? ..Again Thanks to mg4150!! U R AMAZING! :)
This song stands out because it's timeless since DAY ONE! It still sounds freshly recorded. I have a comp CD of outtakes and rough cuts, I found it more annoying then enjoying, it's really not good till Zep gets into the Groove of things.
Yes JPJ is brilliant and underated but I think In Through the Out Door is the worst Zep album and that is down to Jonesy having more input and Page less.
I agree with you except that in my opinion, jones took zeppelin into a little too much of a "popish" direction, because it seems he prefferred to play the keyboard tot he bass in many songs. A great musician, yes, but as a fellow bass player i somtimes disaprove of what he did to presence and in through the out door.
he didnt really have much to do with presence and i dont think he tried to be poppy he just wanted to experiment. hes still my favorite from zeppelin.
@565144 That was only on the last record. Presence is still a Page controlled lp. No keyboards on that one at all actually. But In through the out Door was still very good. By today's standards it would be a semi-masterpiece by a modern group if they had made it. Besides, Page was so fucked up on smack, that Jones and Plant took over. They were just going with the new sounds of the day back in '79. And his bass playing on those lps is still top notch regardless.
john paul jones singal handedly wrote sunshine superman by donovan if u guys know what im talking about and recorded many studio versions for sum of the whos songs
The man has certainly been around hasn't he. Worked with Dusty Springfield, ENO, Butthole Surfers, Nico, Diamanda Galas. He's a longtime favorite musician. Doesn't get as much credit or reknown as Page, or Plant, but he certainly deserves it. The man was always right there, when Page went into one of his impromptu riffs.
I was rocking out to this, I've heard the studio version a million times (I broke the cassette tape from extreme usage), when I realized it was recorded one day before I was born. Pretty cool.
john paul wrote the song "shes a rainbow" for the Stones .. and dozens more for assloads of different artists.... he along with the other members were fucking genious... this songs not rare ints on the "physical graffitti" album
Sorry, but you are wrong. JPJ dind't wrote "She's a Rainbow", he just arranged the strings of this song. And this versions is really *rare because Zeppelin never played Night Flight live, except from this soundcheck version.
Ah but seein as I haven't really heard of him then that just gives further evidence of how under-rated they are...I have no idea who he plays with, I'm tmepted to say Pink Floyd but I fear a barrage of abuse if I'm wrong:L
@phase901 John Entwistle was voted for many decades as the greatest bass player by just about every poll ever taken around the world. Listeners and professional musicians has consistantly rated John Entwistle the greatest. I remember polls going back as far as 1968. If Entwistle was not number 1, he was voted number 2, cheers
Awesome to hear the sound checks and various bootlegs.
I often imagine Cameron Crow making a doco about Zeppelin - much like the "Classic Albums" series, but covering the entire set of works. If I ever have serious money, I will pursue that idea as it would be brilliant to see.
That is hilarious. Zeppelin fucking around... and, it sounds like, as any musician will attest, they're trying to remember the arrangement, thinking... 'fuck, it's on the LP at home... why didn't I listen to it beforehand...' Awesome.
So cool...always LOVED this song! Great upload. I only saw them once - in 76 at Chicago Ampitheater. So very cool, but schlock accoustics there. Adore them & so very glad they are playing London...FINALLY bringing Jones back too-'bout time!
@wjv4me My God! That is awesome that you saw Led Zeppelin live. To me seeing Led Zeppelin would have been sort of biblical. I saw Plant & Page, in the No Quartar tour---absolutely incredible. When I saw Robert Plant on tour, at the Greek Theatre, in LA a long time ago, when he appeared on stage, he had his back on the audience with his mane up in the air. What what a godly experience.
@sgrant3354 yes you are right, they did not tour that year, but they were active as "Presence" was released in March and the film "The song remains the same" was released I think in June or July. Also Page was reported to have jammed in impromptu fashion with Pat Travers as well as Robin Trower. And Bonham was rumored to be working on a side project with Pete Townsend
@wjv4me dude i wish i could have seen zeppelin :( they were split up before i was born lol, and yeah JPJ is insane on pretty much every instrument out there haha
...guitar crossing notes kinda have the sound of "I've got a feeling" (Beatles). So awesome ! What a great live song. I've seen Zep three times and I never heard that one. I would've came in my shorts....swear ...
