The next time someone tries to convince me "I Was Meant For You", "Bye Bye Ms American Pie" or worst of all "Bad Day" are legit songs for someone in a low mood, I'm gonna say 'son, have a seat and listen to this. It's called Tomorrow Started by Talk Talk. You're tune's a trip around the park compared to this.' They'll listen and be moved to tears and I'll pat them on the back consolingly and say, 'you can't say I didn't warn you, buckshot.'
Talk Talk are unquestionably one of the Best bands ever to come out of the UK. They evolved from the synth pop of the early 80's into one of the most innovative bands there has eve been, producing songs like this one that leaves you staring misty eyed into your mug wondering what the fuck life is all about. It is unlikely that there will ever be another band to equal them, not in my lifetime anyway. They were simply that good.
Born in '58...I can't remember how many Saturday and Sunday mornings I greeted the sun coming up, and me coming down from 'cid or blow. Sheer tragic beauty. I swear. And Talk Talk leading me to my bed, and sleep...Sweetness. Apres Les Clubs, always this beauty. Always.
The eighties was my primetime in music and life.Born in 60 i have no perception or understanding of the dross served up today. My kids listen to lots of the pure quality that was my staple diet in this period, and these guys are right at the pinnacle.Only my opinion but this band is was light years ahead of time and as live bands go they are unsurpassed.
TT, my all time favorite!!
Hey ... i was in the other song "life what you...." ...then ..i heard this thing.. my good Lord.. it is something beyond words... ..... it is really really so deep stuff... ... gotta shoot a short movie -or something for it ... if i shoot it .. i will post it here .. it is drilling my soul... ....
Too bad the dickheads that run commercial radio don't play quality music like Talk Talk instead of never ending repeats of banal crap like Elton John etc. They obviously think we are all moronic out there, just like them!! Thanks to BBC radio 2 the only station here that shows any imagination and better taste.

Fantastic!! I love Talk Talk!! Time for a comeback...the world needs you!!....perhaps we can mitigate the cancer of Christina Aguilera and other out generic robots that are pooping out bland fast food for the mind and soul.
does anyone know whats happened to the guys in this band? they were unreal, shoiuldve bin up there with u2, duran duran, and any other good band of their time.
Song is too beautiful. Was putting together a new dresser for my little girl when this song came through my earphones. My work pace slowed down and I sang my heart out, had shed tears before the end. Wish I knew what the lyrics meant.
I try not to think of Mark's retirement from music as a betrayal. It just seems that the world has been denied something that should still be there. It's just bitterness, I guess, about not hearing new stuff from Mr Hollis. Well, thanks for what you did give us, Mark. You and Talk Talk were always unique; you couldn't say Talk Talk are like...whoever...because there just wasn't anything to be compared with.
I'm 30 - My mum introduced my to Talk, Talk via her playing their album full blast early evenings, I used to study and find myself getting into the tunes, so I nicked her tape and used to fall asleep esp to this track. At such a young age, this music really touched me, and now at 30, I am remembering and appreciating how timeless this band really are!!!! This song is EPIC!
Sheer class will always shine out like a beacon. No matter what era it comes from. Sometimes you have to do a little digging to find it and then, mmhh sublime!!
I met Mark Hollis after a Talk Talk concert in 82 and asked him what he thought of David Bowie---he replied " he'll never be as good as me " well right or wrong i gotta give the bloke credit for what he said,i hope he's found a way to keep the demons in his head at bay,I think this is one of my all time favourite songs, very haunting
I have to admit that I really thought the line went "I'm just the bus that you take" rather than "I'm just the first that you take". Actually, I guess that, in a way, the bus line works just as well given the meaning and tone of the song. I almost like it better.
thank you colour of spring for uploading and reminding me of what an incredible band they were. so far ahead of their time, brings back so many memories from my dim and distant youth, it seems a bit of a cliche looking at all the comments on here but MARK you really do need to make some music again for your deprived fans, but i realise its not as simple as that, still, such a waste :(
My sister cannot listen to this song , she has to cry everytime she hears it....

@wrs6565 Nothing wrong with 80s synths. Actually even during the 80s the synth sound changed quite alot. 84 music has a particularly nice sound often for me.
What an incredible song! You just can't say enough about this amazing song. It literally takes you to another dimension. This is what you call TIMELESS MUSIC. No matter if you listen to it now or 100 years from now, it will still have the same dramatic effect. It has only been 20 or so years since Talk Talk stopped producing music, and it isn't too late for them to come out of "retirement" to tour the world ONE LAST TIME. I'm updating my comments because I believe that Talk Talk should do one final world tour. Their music is timeless. Talk Talk has dedicated fans across the globe and they would receive overwhelming support. WE WANT TALK TALK to tour again. And this time, sweep through America! The music is absolutely awesome and millions of fans support that fact. We need to summon Talk Talk to come back and tour once more. It will be the TOUR OF THE CENTURY! Come back Talk Talk, WE WANT YOU!!!
True.Because of venues like the Tube (and others) so many new fans have Talk Talk made in retrospect for neophytes discovering them, their initial fanbase had to have increased eight-fold!--IT BEHOOVES THEM TO COME BACK!
Some Ensembles have the "genius" to know when to "call it good" speak in defense of Talk talk here. This song in particular is a MASTERPIECE of music. IMO it would be pointless to take away or give anything more to it.Look at the STONES,Music mediocre now and looking like corpses! They should call it quits! before embarrassment sets in. Mark Hollis and this band did the RIGHT THING,we should all just enjoy this cut and other "moving music" by this group as things (were) & now are..just my .02!
For certain, its difficult to imagine any other band or artist covering this.Who really can pour the amount of passion and soul that Hollis empties into this song in sheer incandescent rivulets!?
I absolutely agree about Hollis' passion he dispenses into this cut...Just have a view of him performing this live in Rotterdam...The old cliche stands!,.." A picture is worth a thousand words"....Needless to say,..only one word explains it there,...."PASSION"! The emotion ,for what he (in particular) and the rest of his band mates are displaying.
Since the mid-80's, Talk Talk has been one of the memorable groups that have survived the test of time. While songs like "It's my life" had more air play and higher chart rankings, other songs like "Renee" , "Tomorrow Started", and "Such a Shame" were the songs that seemed to stand out in our minds the most. These are classic songs that will someday resurface as "remakes" and this time, hopefully, will receive greater international status. Talk Talk presented us with timeless music in song.
I used to have and love that album. The only problem is I am not sure I understand the lyrics. Some of them are hard to understand for a non-native speaker.
Sure, but sometimes I don't understand the lyrics even if I have them in front of me, as is the case with this song. All I can "sense" there is doubt.
I was SO lucky to find this ON VINYL in a music store I didn't think would have anything like this!!! :c) The cashier then said,"yeah, people dropped off some REALLY good stuff this week."
I LOVE this album. Talk Talk is so underappreciated. When I was 13, I thought it was just "Talk Talk" and "It's My Life". NOPE! there's more!!!
probably one of the only bands that emotionally warms me. The only one, in fact.
The painting is The Boyhood of Raleigh by John Everett Millais. Btw, this is my favourite Talk Talk song. I can't tell you where it takes me. Wonderful stuff!
This song is painfully beautiful, poetry set to music, and hauntingly honest in the depths of anyone's sole who is willing to open up and let the void of a lonely moment reflect these words and drink in the essence of what we know as the passage of our own immorality.
what a gem mark hollis was so far ahead of his time such a shsme he retired but at least he made a lot of superb music for us to all enjoy 4ever...thanks and happy retirement you deserve it...
type "talk talk athens" you'll find great live performance of this song

It's hard to find an artist these days that can produce more than two songs on one album or CD and then fill the rest of the CD with utter crap.
Every song on this album is it's own hit and what's more each time they have been able to convey pure emotion with vocals and musical score.
Of all of the bands that came out of the 80's, this is my number one album, with U2 close behind.
If an album were to be defined as evoking emotion, this would be my first pick without doubt.

URSINHOdePELUCHE 2 years ago
don't worry mate, even for an English speaker, I always struggled to understand half of what he sang...and made up my own lyrics. hahahaha
KARENK72886 2 years ago 2
OK :D But I guess basically their lyrics tend to be a bit melancholic...
URSINHOdePELUCHE 2 years ago
Search for the lyrics on the internet, I always do that with songs I love, I want to know what it is about. :)
Slephak 2 years ago
Sure, but sometimes I don't understand the lyrics even if I have them in front of me, as is the case with this song. All I can "sense" there is doubt.

as a french speaker i agree with you

I was SO lucky to find this ON VINYL in a music store I didn't think would have anything like this!!! :c) The cashier then said,"yeah, people dropped off some REALLY good stuff this week."
I LOVE this album. Talk Talk is so underappreciated. When I was 13, I thought it was just "Talk Talk" and "It's My Life". NOPE! there's more!!!
probably one of the only bands that emotionally warms me. The only one, in fact.

Also what painting are the pieces from the puzzle in the picture from?

The painting is The Boyhood of Raleigh by John Everett Millais. Btw, this is my favourite Talk Talk song. I can't tell you where it takes me. Wonderful stuff!

Adoro questa canzone...Mi fa piangere perchè è molto malinconica!!!
DavidCurci 3 years ago 2
This song is painfully beautiful, poetry set to music, and hauntingly honest in the depths of anyone's sole who is willing to open up and let the void of a lonely moment reflect these words and drink in the essence of what we know as the passage of our own immorality.
