  • If God is supposed to be omniscient, omnipotent, and omnipresent, it seems rather strange to me that he would have any reason to be angry, or even surprised about any of his creation's actions. But then again I'm thinking about this logically, and logic does not always apply to religion. Invoking the image of an angry God would certainly make for a useful social control mechanism for rulers over their people, especially when backed up with the threat of actual force at the behest of God.

  • The great and holy god that people worship, reminds me of all human traits.

  • Very well done, thoughtful, and provocative. Preach it, sister!! Thank you for advancing a cause that is so long overdue. Releasing ourselves from the burden of misguided beliefs, embedded in every culture, will lead to a brighter future for all.

  • THOSE ASKING YOU TO CONTROL YOUR ANGER WANT TO CONTROL YOU!

  • I normally don't make such rude and trolly comments, don't worry. I just suddenly thought of that joke now, sorry! : )

  • Oh, you should have heard how much God enjoyed me spanking him while he was playing with some gay sex toy! He sure has human(although perverse) feelings: )

  • Your voice is very clear and articulate. For a non-native English speaker like myself, that's a treasure :)

  • When the bible is read with the correct context, can there be any doubt that it was indeed 'God' who was made in the image of man?-- this video does a great job of proving that.

  • Finally got your book, it's shelved until I finish Steven Pinker's latest, but I look forward to reading it.

  • great video peace and love is the way...

  • I enjoyed the series.

  • @kvj1989 "To answer your question, i know because of the bible."

And you know the bible is true how? Before you answer, take a look at this:

    i203.photobucket(dot)com/albums/aa113/casherad/infiniteregress-1.jpg

Once you understand the graphic (hint: replace "bible" with something else... like Quran for example), go for it.

  • @boenrobot - I couldn't get the image to work.

  • @TrustingDoubt It seems photobucket decided to delete it. Oh well, here's another URL:

    blogforthelordjesuscurrentevents.files.wordpress(dot)com/2011/12/break-the-cycle.jpg

(I'm willing to bet you've seen this same image before... I have yet to meet an atheist on YouTube who hasn't LOL)

  • wow. great stuff. definitiely subbing. Excellent.

  • mmmm premium reproductive benefits!!!!

  • Allah/Yahweh remind me of text book narcissists, prone to fits of narcissistic rage at the slightest provocation.

  • thank you so much for posting this video, I had the same exact problem with the concept of God that most Judeo-Christians have; If God is omnipotent (all-powerful/invulnerable), eternal (unchanging), and perfect (completely self-sufficient) then God does not need any emotions since negative emotions imply vulnerability, positive emotions imply sense of reward (thus not self-sufficient), and any emotions is really a kind of change and reaction to circumstances (thus not eternal and transcendent)

  • This was well done. And it's this angry God who supposedly dictated morality to us:

    watch?v=NeyyBpKMumM

  • 8:30 "BEEFY?" seriously? BEEFY? WTF?

  • @Josh04731 Interesting concept?? As a piece of literature, it's mega-evil and sick/twisted prose. I wish more people treated as just a piece of literature but alas, billions cannot out of fear of damnation from the overlord who is supposed to love them. If these religious nutters would just read the damn bible(or any holy book) with a small dose of logic, from cover to cover, they would certainly find it full of violence, murder, infanticide, fratricide, incest, anger, jealousy, tales, etc.

  • its likel Monty Python "what have the romans ever done for us?" Aquaducts, healthcare, Roads, Max Weber's Capitalism and the Protestant Ethic,

God and Religion are Abstract definitions of something greater than the humans and allegory for people with imagination. If you read it like Socrates or Plato, without prejudging it as religion, than its just an interesting story book. Job just keeps on keepin on, etc. David can beat goliath, NOT religion, but self help.

  • @mard420 The problems with sanctioning religion as an abstract metaphor are: 1. Somewhere around half of humans take it as literal fact, which makes it fantastically powerful. 2. Many of the metaphors or "self-help" stories are far from benign. They directly or indirectly support misogyny, violence, tribalism, ignorance, competitive breeding, arrogance, passivity, and so forth. To write or promote a self-help book that had these effects would be a violation of most ethical codes.

  • good video

  • This is an amazing series....

  • Thanks for another great video! I especially like the references to contemporary studies conducted in the field of psychology.

  • J. Edwards was right. The God of the Bible is an extremely angry God. God will kick ya in the teeth just for the hell of it. I think the new age preachers (Warren, Olsteen, etc.) have tried to turn God into a lovable teddy bear. A soft lens version of God; an Oprah Winfrey version of God. But that's not how the God of the Bible is. God is an angry jerk. It is best to speak to God only when God is in a good mood. And that time is never. Just let God fume in the corner and keep your distance.

  • The quality of the content and the depth of the examination in your videos are truly amazing. Please keep them coming.

  • Wonderful!

  • Amazing material and representation. Too bad your had work will not be presented to large numbers of people.

  • @ytfmichaelxu This person wrote her own book, plus a chapter for two popular books: "The Christian Delusion" and "The End of Christianity." They are both a hit and I recommend everyone read them. The message is and will get out, make no mistake. If you want to help, favorite this video and share it around with all your mates.

  • Excellent video, the thought of an all loving god that has the capacity for anger is quite bewildering.

  • "Name it and claim it," so called "prosperity Christians" seem to be the most politically active and dangerous. It is as if instead of being something to fear, their god is a cosmic vending machine that can bring followers together to open their wallets and give, give, give. As long as they pray about it, they're free to walk all over anybody and anything to get anything. The Dominion movement has its roots in this "biblical world view"; they are "claiming" the world for God to fire up rapture.

  • Another outstanding video. Thank you

  • That was a truely wonderful video. Great job!

  • "Might makes right." is the most fundamental message Christians get (or should get) from the Bible.

    Fav'ed

  • @dewinthemorning And the " majority rules" message lol.

  • @candyazz28 And a host of other fallacious assumptions, lol

  • @EdwardHowton

Prayer is all about control, and like anything that has to do with religious thinking, is not thinking or thought about.

  • I was always of the opinion that positive reinforcement works better than negative. Tell me, Christians, which do you want more, to avoid hell or to go into heaven?

    (leave out the dichotomy)

  • God wil forgive you atheist scum:)

  • @kvj1989

    Says who, you?

Who are you to know what the creator of the universe would do?

  • @kvj1989

    Religious fool!

  • @xSilverPhinxx A fool that wil go to heaven, you are a cynical know it all that wil burn in hell.

  • @kvj1989 hmmm that's an odd comment. How would you know their eternal disposition unless you were.... god?

  • @TruthSurge The bible genius.

  • @kvj1989 yeah guys, the Bible. You all know, that book full of evident fictions and myths. Remember? No? The book that has been interpolated and had forgers scribble all over it. The same book that science has discredited countless times. The same book that was written by superstitious desert men, but gave the credit to their imaginary friend in the sky, that is still used today by superstitious folk to preach empty promises and false hopes (while many use it to justify harming other people)

  • @Feredir28 not to mention, these superstitious folk nowadays (as back then) attribute all their work to their imaginary friend which, comically, is just a human invention they have projected outwards (this video and series has done an excellent job in revealing the truth of that: god is just a human invention).

  • @kvj1989 um, that isn't a sentence and it also makes no sense as a reply to my comment/question. Are you trying to say that YOU are a bible genius and that's how you know? Or, are you trying to be sarcastic by calling ME a bible genius?

  • @TruthSurge I think he means his source is "The Bible Genius"... And that can only mean one being. Creationist Cat.

  • @xdassinx oh, well gee. He should have said so. I can't argue with Creationist Cat. Way out of my league.

  • @TruthSurge The bible, genius.

    It was sarcasme.

To answer your question, i know because of the bible.

  • @kvj1989 ah. amazing what a little comma in the right spot can do for clarity.

No, you don't know. You cannot know what someone will believe right at the moment of death so anyone could become a "true" christian anytime OR leave Christianity too. You're better off worrying about your own eternal disposition.

  • @TruthSurge Yes i do, i already explained it.

  • @kvj1989 So, you have the ability to see into the future? that's amazing! Can you call me up with the winning lottery ticket? I'll split it with you.

  • @TruthSurge No you dumb bitch, it says so in the bible.

  • @kvj1989 really? The Bible says SilverPhinxx will never become a Christian? AMAZING! What book/chapter/verse is that because I really have to see that to believe it.

  • @TruthSurge No it says you wil go to hell if you don't become a believer.

    What a dumb bitch.

  • @kvj1989 No, you are the dense one since you claim to know whether someone is going to hell or not as that knowledge is contingent upon their life being OVER. See, you can't tell anyone they are going to hell since there's still a chance they MIGHT become "saved" before they die? How old are you? 9?

  • @TruthSurge I said you were a bitch, bitch.

Have fun burning in hell you atheist scum slut.

  • @kvj1989 That's the kind of Christianity I love! Burn in hell! That's lovely. So original and intelligent you are!!

  • @stiv70 Now you're getting it!

  • @kvj1989 have fun no longer commenting on TrustingDoubt's vids. buh bye now.

  • @kvj1989 king james version the name implies that it was written by men my dear and thats just one version of many other king james version . sounds like they made a mistake and had to rewrite some things, don't you think (:

  • @kvj1989

    Or so you believe ;)

  • Your videos are always great.

Once excuse Christians often give is that "we're made in God's image", however you make it pretty clear how these attributes make sense for us, and not a god, and thus who is a reflection of who. The idea of a god having emotions is no more logical than a god having feet. What are his feet for? Does he walk on solid ground against the force of gravity?

Just like for emotions, "made in his image" doesn't cut it as an excuse; the direction of reflection is obvious.

  • great video..... ya i'm sure a guy in a powdered wig knew his stuff about god.

Did jesus wear a powdered wig too? lol

a sixth grader today is smarter than that guy was in his whole lifetime.

  • These videos are brilliant. It is so fascinating to look at evolutionary reasons for why are prone to believe in god(s). I hope some day these cruel books can be set aside as artifacts to be studied by historians.

  • @ReThinkingTheism I like to think so since history is on our side. Thousands of imaginary beings down and only a few left to go.

  • This is good I'll check its predecessors

  • thx :) I enjoy it!

  • It's so silly to talk about a nonexistent omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent overlord as if he has thoughts or emotions. I know billions are certain of this being's sensitivities, feelings and plans for us but I cannot listen or even watch clergy push this shit on folks as if it's real. It's quite sad in this day and age to witness such tripe and foolishness.

  • Love it <3

  • An excellent series, and an important contribution to the debate about the nature of faith.

  • how can an all knowing god get angry with anything? It already knows what is going to happen, the answer is that there probably is no all knowing god.

  • Very good, why did you choose Saddam as an example, seen as he have been gone quite a while?

  • @lamnaa I'm not Valerie but I'd answer by saying that a good example is still a good example no matter how long ago it happened. :)

  • @TruthSurge True, but I thought the point of using Saddam was you use someone more modern and accessible.

  • @lamnaa I think the point (Valerie prob knows her pt better than I) was to show a dictator who ruled in the Middle-East (the very place where the Bible authors/followers lived). But Valerie had a spill and hurt her leg so it might be a while before she's looking at comments but that's my 2 cents. Saddam is pretty modern. He was in power less than 10 years ago.

  • @TruthSurge True, and he did rule over a variety of people.

  • @TruthSurge - Thanks for filling in. You are right. I also think Saddam was a particularly good parallel to the Biblical (iron age) kings of the Ancient Near East upon which Yahweh was modeled. He suppressed conflict among otherwise warring tribal factions -- but did so by wielding brute, sadistic power. Ironically, for subjects who managed to stay out of his way, his reign provided a higher quality of life than the instability of tribal violence. And yet we now have much better options.

  • God being "angry" negates the assumption that god knows everything.

  • God's anger is much like Captain Kirk's USS Enterprise.

"What does god need with a starship?"

  • @zEropoint68 watch?v=WYW_lPlekiQ

  • thank you.

  • Thank you for this.

    emotion = a need

    perfection = nothing is needed

if god is love then he is not perfect, it is funny how religious people claim their god to be this.

With a bit of logic is easy to see the falsehood of god

  • @viicISrotcib I think you're giving too much credit to the 'god is love' deepity. It's just a convenient and easy, disposable slogan that they can toss out without thinking too much about it. I'd be surprised if any of them actually believe that god is love, because they're too busy thinking that god is an all-powerful despot with an unchangeable plan that can be modified by prayer (and the nonsense goes on).

I think there's a reason why Daniel Dennett used it as his example of a deepity.

  • @EdwardHowton yup.

  • @EdwardHowton I think it's actually about the next line, that he who dwells in love, dwells in god. You wanna be a good person right? so you better love god, or you're evil by definition! And if you don't love god, then you don't love!

Which is why us atheists are all immoral.

  • @kelarael The next line? Which line?

  • @EdwardHowton sorry, getting ahead of myself, it's in a psalm I believe That "god is love and he who dwelleth in love dwelleth in me" something like that.

  • @kelarael Ah. I think my point remains despite that psalm; no-one really thinks that god is limited to being love, and love doesn't answer prayers or get angry at people for being exactly what they were made to be or sacrifice itself to itself to create loopholes in its own arbitrary rules.

Besides, to know the psalms you have to read the bible, and hardly any christians ever do that.
