You know what I hate? When people don't use punctuation. Lol. It may be evident that Tilly is often times under stress and in emotional discomfort (sad perhaps, even lonely at times). But what do you suggest? A sea pen, where he would be ALONE alone. I believe the best we can do is encourage Sea World staff to provide him with as much love and comfort as possible. He should be given special attention.
Anyone who says 'well at least they get fed and are safe from predators' listen, wild orcas live for 50-60 years, whereas captive orcas rarely live past 25. They live frustrated and die young. There is no way to justify it, it is cruel and wrong!
if you truly love these animals please boycott sea world and work to a time when they will be put out in the ocean in a sanctuary where they can swim in something that is not the equivalent to a bathtub. if you pay seaworld any money you are supporting these creatures imprisonment to do stupid tricks for stupid tourists for dead fish with loud rock and roll and fireworks. These animals are way more than intelligent than you. Give them the real respect they deserve. Thank you.
thanks for your reply. These animals are not here for our entertainment. They have their own needs and wants. No one--I repeat *NO*ONE has the right to cage them and force them to do tricks all day swimming in circles. It doesn't matter if ten qua billion people go to see that you don't have a right to do that to another creature. And make no mistake if you are going to SeaWorld you are responsible for their horrible unjust living conditions. Closing down SeaWorlds? Now you're getting the idea.
put them in seaworld abusement parks so they will be safe from ocean predators? how would you like for someone to put you in jail so you wouldn't have to worry about being mugged? sharks and predators in the ocean are natural. doing tricks--no it's not "behaviors", that's really funny and it's not natural to for them to swimming circles and do TRICKS for humans so Seaworld can get a lot of money. And shame on all of you for making them do it.
uh hu like u have NEVER been to seaworld and i know i am a member of wwf and a pre-vetrenarian a vegan vegetarian and animal rights activist so i know about how they r treated here and i get it its wrong when a whale does tricks but when a dog does it no 1 cares looks to me like u only care about big animals in cages i havent heard any1 saying that shelters r bad no so y dont we put u in a CAGE not a tank with buds a cage all alone in a cold hospital all night think about that huh?
@unicornlover54 I completely disagree with orcas being in captivity, however dogs have been domesticated for thousands of years, and there is no comparison between them and orcas. Dogs have been bred to be passive and docile and therefore entirely dependant on humans, whereas orcas have only been in captivity since the '60s and the training destroys their natural impulses.
@unicornlover54 Ummm...what orcas do during shows aren't really tricks for them..it's normal behaviors they do when given the signal they learned..same for a dog lol...Dogs sit on their own but they can learn to do it when their owner wants them to. I'm not slamming you btw.
I'm sorry but these whales do not do "tricks" they are called behaviours, they would do them in the wild. The reason the trainers have them do these is to prevent boredom. When the shows aren't on they still ask for them to do this, and a "show" is just like a training session with people watching.
Also, are you stupid? There is no way that sea world can release them, as much as I would love it. They don't know how to hunt. They wouldn't survive a week out there.
Sorry I have just seen you said put them in a sanctuary. I misread. Though even still, I don't think that would work. Where would they get the funds? Also people pay seaworld, a lot of that goes on the care of the animals and you can't say the trainers don't love them.
I am all for treating the whales right and I wish they would give them bigger tanks but it isn't possible. At least they don't take them out of the wild anymore.

I'm srry Goblet0fire but i'm Shamu's number 1 fane. Do u know all the whales names? Do you know that Shamu stands for She-Name, Do you know that Kayla(1 of the whales) comes all the way from texas?
lol ok. i was kinda joking about the "number 1 fan" thing but i DO love orcas and know a lot about the backgrounds of the ones in captivity. and yes, i know shamu is a stage name that means "she-namu" and yes i do know all the whale names, and yes i do know that kayla comes all the way from texas thank you very much.
I wouldn't say that he is exactly..."happy" but I was at Seaworld today...and he was actually vocalizing. Something I haven't heard him do ever. He seemed to be in a good mood today atleast.
He was swimming around the tank vocalizing and as he would pass us he was vocalize louder. It was kinda cute for him to do. lol. I'm sure he would be much happier in the wild too.
^__^ It was pretty cool. I love being able to see what the behaviors look like from under water. His dorsal makes a neat little whirlpool when he does breaches. =3

Despite Sea World's pride in its captive breeding record, it is time for the marine parks to
acknowledge that, overall, the programme has been a failure. Captive births, far from
swelling the captive population, at best have merely served to keep pace with deaths.
Calves born merely replace dead adults. Furthermore, failed pregnancies and infant
mortalities have been unacceptably high, as have maternal deaths.-WDCS
