Just watched this last night. Bought it when I was stationed in Korea a couple years ago.

Good movie, very moving, especially when Jin-Seok as an old man finally "reunites" with Jin-Tae..

BUT, I can't escape the fact that, especially in the second half, the movie is overwhlemingly sappy and contrived at times. Like the writers/director said "focus groups have shown that THESE 5 elements will make people cry!" and just put them in with no subtlety.

@neodahyper thats mainly due to how rapidly paced the war was. It was only 3 years long and was in a country no one really heard of. Vietnam War was so much bigger than this war as well as WW2. This is why the Korean War is the "Forgotten War".

If you have seen the movie - and if you have a brain - you would know those commies and South Koreans can communicate without any translater. What can they be except North Koreans, then? And plus, the camera follows Korean soldiers of a Korean Infantry Division. Koreans had their own HQ and Generals, so Americans didn't have to be always following Koreans as you think. The rest of the UN had their war out of the camera's angle.
