I cried. I saw myself in Yang-Yang when he read his letter to his grandma. I wrote nearly the same thing in a letter to my dad after he died when I was young.
i hope that a brighter summer day, the terrorizer, taipei story, etc. come out on commercial dvd some day, but i don't hold out much hope. brighter summer day is probably my favorite movie EVER.
I've shared The Terrorizer on my channel. It's the best copy I can find even though the subs can be hard to read sometimes against a white background. I too hope that these things become commercially available very soon.
i regret to myself that it was too late to know mr. yang's films.. now, he's passed away. but his masterpieces stay. which is like a scene of yiyi, mr. wu said that she left, but the music stays with him.
the greatness of Yang's filmmaking was in the subtle nuances of his scenes...in the vein of Ozu, Bunuel and Hou Hsiao Hsien....an ace film -maker....RIP Edward YDC..
Yi Yi was such a masterpiece. no other film has been able to express what this film in such a perfect way-- subtle and powerful. Edward Yang was a genius... RIP
heart breaking

Great filmmaker. I would suggest to everyone to check out this film and his other films (look on imdb).
Note: Yang De Chang is Edward Yang's Chinese name (last name first).
