  • haha everyone wants to compare the revival to the movie or the OBC, but it's different, and that doesn't make it wrong or inaccurate. granted i havent seen Matt act (he might be awful haha, then I can understand the hatred), but his voice is entrancing.

  • Matt's voice sounds healthy, and I think he'll have a long career. It may not SEEM stylistically appropriate for the show, but I think Matt's sound was Bernstein's intent based on the libretto. Larry Kert couldn't even hit the top note in Maria and had to have a new line written for him and other Tony's that can't belt out a high B flat. He doesn't have quite the same energy as Kert, and I admire that energy, but I think the constant strain against the music added to his perceived energy.

  • I love Matt Cavenaugh's voice. I think you have to be into more classical types of voices to really appreciate him. People hate his vibrato, but vibrato is just the sound of relaxation and freedom in the vocal folds, and without it he could never reach those notes with that ease. Larry Kert had a more stylistic 60's pop voice, but he didnt have nearly the range Matt has, nor the depth. The part of Tony has been played differently, but Bernstein really wrote the part to be sung like Matt sings it

  • A mixture of borat and bruno BUT.........I <3 WEST SIDE STORY BEST MUSICAL EVER

  • i just went to palace theater last Wednesday. It was so good. i got to meet cast after.

  • хорошее видео

    Я люблю свое видео ; )

  • oh my gahh!! :D

    I really wanna see it.

Is it good? I loved the movie and the songs.

  • the revival isnt that good, i wouldnt recommend it unless you reallyyyyyyyyyyy love it

  • Love your review. And your accent.

  • The Palace Theatre isn't as big as the Gershwin Theatre!!!! The Gershwin is HUGE. You need to take an escalator stairs or an elevator to get up. For me it's probably the largest I've been in!

  • It's the largest theater on broadway

  • i hated matt cavenaugh. ruined the show for me. even if i could get past that vibrato, his acting was SO irritating. i've never wanted that character to just get shot already until now hahaha. i thought the maria, particularly her voice, was perfection though. maybe her final scene wasn't where i wanted it, but i thought she was beautiful and had a lovely presense. karen olivo made the show. she was perfection, no doubt.

west side story is always wonderful, its a masterpiece

  • I liked matt's acting. but what was with his singing?!

  • HAHAHA! Something was coming & something wasn't good. Lol well put, he has such an ugly vibrato.

  • i agree that matt isnt that good

  • Also! You and the colors and lighting! Whats with you! Thats EXACTLY how it was in the movie and original play! And if you think they changed the senes around and made it spanish they didnt! They kept it exactly the same! This play is supposed to be like the original musical not the movie! Color, it was ALL OVER! In the clothes, lighting, sky, background! Maybe its b/c u were so high up and far away but it was perfect, ppl, i think u should not listen to this review, just go see it for yourself!

  • I very much disagree with you opinion on Tony! I respect your opinion, but Tony was a great singer and gave me chills when he sang, anythign gave me chills in that musical! He did try a little to hard to sound likeTony! When he spoke he would very good, but singing he was great! Benardo's clothers were perfect just like in the move! The connection btw Tony and Maria was perfect! You have no idea what ur talking abotu and if u couldnt tell who was who, thats said and shows ur not a TRUE fan!

  • i saw this musical this week and its sooooo efffinnn amazing!!! i wana go se it again!! ha

  • Thanks for the review. How much of the view is blocked when you sit in the back of the balcony? What can you not see? Is it front of the top balcony also partial view?

  • Hi. Well, I saw almost all action on stage. Only top of the back sets were blocked a little bit. Not sure about the front of the balcony, but I guess it doesnt count as partial view.

In the box office they told me that 25-30% of the stage view would be missing. But who cares about the upper level of the sets, and as I said you will be able to see all the actors at almost any point.

  • Nice review. I saw The Phantom of the Opera for the 11th time on Wednesday and I walked by the Palace Theatre and I got really excited when I saw all the advertisments for West Side Story- I REALLY want to see it =]

  • hang it up buddy

    what is your deal?

U a critic ....learn to speak properly if you are going to review

  • Thanks,

I would appreciate if you quote where I didn't speak properly and write how to say it right.

Thanks for your comment again :)

  • Thanks for the review Sergey! I hope to see this soon. What show are you seeing next?

  • Thanks for watching!

Mmm, not sure. I really want to see South Pacific, so I am waiting for discounted tickets, lol. And I want to see Billy Elliot again.

  • I am waiting for discounts for South Pacific as well. I am on a Billy Elliot break right now ( 7 times). I am seeing Hair again tomorrow.

    Sam

  • I am seeing this show in July! I am so excited! (Karen O. is my favorite actress of all time) Thanks for the honest review!

  • Hey,

    Thanks for watching!

Yeah, I know a lot of people wont like what I said, but I saw it twice and its exactly how I feel about it. It still West Side Story, so I am sure you will enjoy it in any case!
