Scrolling Tips for iPhone / iPod touch

I just got the new iPod Touch 4th gen and while scrolling down the Habitat list there's a noticeable skipping or lagging. I have compared to others iPods and they are much more smooth. Do you know if this is a hardware or software problem? What can I do?
