However the clever thing about the anime (simpler minded people are susceptible to this) is that it is quite easy to end up cheering for Light despite his immorality. His brains/cunningness are easy to admire but of course it wouldn't be the same without provocation from L's mindfuckery. xD
Meanwhile lol Lelouch beats Light any day. Mentally alright they're about even but to me what it comes down to is that Lelouch is courageous. Light seems cowardly to me smart but not brave.

Light Yagami although he is the main character the manga/anime creators call him the Antagonist and L is the Protagonist. It's really about the ideas of self grandiose serial killers get (realistically some Do think they are God or getting messages from God). The whole question altho he got rid of crime is how he controlled the world thru fear, not from hope. Is that really saving the world? His motives were entirely selfish.
