My Family , Mother and Father are both from them thar hill in West Virginia , Dad was born in the town of Seth in Boone Co. Mom was born on Frogs crick in Putnam Co. My father joined the
Navy to escape the coal mines that killed his father and so many more.We visited a lot in WV in the 60s and 70s saw several Old Time fiddlers conventions in Elkins . I saw Senator Robert C. Byrd play live there . This music stirs my blood . Thank you Sgt Roha
For an historical perspective, this tune was the favorite of William Bonney, alias Billy the Kid. This as reported by his friend Frank Coe in an interview in 1928.
Very cool record! Great fiddles!!! I have a slightly different version on Victor "Batwing" called Turkey in De Straw. It came with a lot of 50 that I bought recently and is definitely not appropriate for youtube with the language it uses on the record. Thank you for posting this!
I know what you mean about the language; I have some that I won't post because the language would cause hurt feelings, anger, etc. They are very interesting from a historical perspective, but many would not see that.

For the record, Turkey in the Straw is about 200 years old. Any recorded version of it is a hundred or so years removed from the original.

I understand about hurt feelings and anger, but could we please post them anyway, because of the historical perspective?

This song was featured in the very first Mickey Mouse cartoon "Steamboat Willie" back in 1928.
