A world with out Music is my personal HELL. I simply could not live without music. Whether classical, jazz, blues, rock, or what have you. Without music in life, it's not living.
My choir director actually emailed Joseph Martin and asked what the meaning of the song was. He replied and said the song was about the death of his high school choir director being murdered in the choir room when he was a child. He said it was also about how he felt alone but then he "awoke" from the darkness and pain and started seeing life like never before. It was a really amazing story to hear.
I remember singing District 09' in Virginia under Dr.Enstminger. This song represents everything I love about music. I liked it so much I took the sheet music when it was done!! Lol oh yea! Tenors Stand-Up!! Lmao....and what 6 people had the audacity to give this a thumbs down?
This song, to me, is also about Hope. To know the realities of life, stare them in the face no matter how dark or treacherous they are, and say I believe. I believe in my dreams, I believe in the goodness of others, I believe in my abilities to be strong, beautiful, and brilliant. And to take that hope and give it out to the world in love and song!
This is my all time favorite choir piece that I have sung with my high school choir. It literally "awakens" me into realizing how much I love singing, and performing with my choir!
This song is what makes singing what it is...its not one of those lame talking rap songs...its purely the true meaning of music! That is why, i'm sure, everyone enjoys it so much!
One of the best songs I have ever heard. I remember playing it with my schools whole music department. An enjoyable experience. Great job filming, and to the instrumentalists and vocalists.
We had artists painting musical designs, dancers choreographed to the song dancing, and our best ensembles preforming the song, AND had all the other fine art students piled in, all wearing a shirt saying "strong arts builds strong schools" in front of all the board of education of georgia to convince them to keep the fine arts in our schools. there wasn't a dry eye to be seen. I still get chills every time I even remember this song, and I've sung it on 3 different occasions.
@kateslyrics1348 I remember that. The chorus did an amazing job. I was one of the french horns from the band in it. The song itself is amazing and I still like to listen to it from time to time.
I nearly cried with how beautiful this was!!! AMAZING! I've sung it on three separate occasions but I wish I could have had a full orchestra!!!! INSANE, like you said dude, BEST CONCERT EVER!
My district is singing this for Honors Choir. I thought we sounded pretty well, but this beautiful performance makes us sound so feeble. This is exactly how I imagined it would really sound!! :]
I had listened to this about five times before I heard the beautiful horn part at 5:19. You might want to go back a few seconds to actually hear its contrast.
Overall ( as well all agree ), a very, very beautiful piece.
That was... Amazing... Music truly is a miracle, and this song is awe inspiring, I remember listening to my uncle sing it. You guys were AMAZING I would've loved to be part of it. :'D
it's really amazing, i just wish my speakers could handle it. they aren't built for awesomeness of this level, it just doesn't sound as good as it should thanks to them
We sang this song for the 2010-2011 All District choir..... I cried during the performance. The words are so thought-inspiring. I love the beauty of the piece ♥
Singing this song in my ninth grade women's choir awoke within me the true joy of being a strong alto; the harmonies and beauty that music can have. If it weren't for this song, I wouldn't be who I am today. I've never looked back.
My mom doesn't like me singing so I didn't get to join a choir in college (even though I had auditioned and got myself a music scholarship), so when our 3 highschool merged choir sang this with a really amazing guest conductor I had to fight off tears. It was my swan sang for choral singing, reflecting my sentiments towards music. She can never take it away from me even if I have to submit stuff to Youtube in secret. Let music never die in me.
My high school now sings this song at every last concert of the year, and Alumni are invited to come up and sing it as well... it's a great tradition piece. =)
i remember doing this song in 8th grade. was the last song with my choir director. will always be my favorite song of all time. its just beautiful and amazing.
We sang this song at our finale concert last year. Little did we know that it would be one of the last songs we ever sang with our director. He took a job as a principal at a grade school a couple weeks later. Now listening to this song makes me cry because of all the memories I have of him.
@ViLanflagle ive been in choir since 4th grade and im going into ninth. im dreding graduation bc i love singing so much and love listening to boys sing this (:
@bindingflame1 i dont think im going to get into college...im not book smart so im not going to get any scholarships...and i wont have the money to pay it on my own...
I agree with you, TGan 1723. The orchestra played well, but for me, it overpowered the choir and piano. There were plenty of parts where I could not hear the male parts.
I got chills watching/listening to this. That never happens with youtube vids. Heck, that rarely happened when we performed this. I mean, I got chills the WHOLE time listening to this. I love it.
I just sang this piece in choir for a concert dedicated to my teacher who is retiring after 36 years of teaching in my district and it was AMAZING! It was really sad though cause we could see her in the audience crying :'(
This performance was... ok. I sang this song with the Kansas Music Educator's State-Wide Honor Chorus in 2004. It was an amazing experience. However, I think these students could have used a lot more practice time. I don't think that it's totally their fault, though. It seems likely that they only got to work with the orchestra two or three times, at the most, before performing on stage. Rehearsal time is extremely important and I hate seeing groups cheated out of valuable rehearsal time.
We're doing this song for our choir's finale concert. It's going to be my last time singing with some amazing seniors, as well as some awesome juniors as I am not able to be in choir next year. This song is the perfect way to end our year.
"Let music never die in me." Music is one of the only pure and good things left in this world. If we let it die, we will be left with "No hallelujah". Wherever emptiness is found, let there be joy and glorious sound.

We are singing this for my choir teacher's legacy concert (she's retiring and she's been teaching in my district 37 years and she's AMAZING) and I actually almost cried when I heard the lyrics, "Let music never die in me" is where I lost it. This piece is BEAUTIFUL, and perfect for the occasion
I like that part so much, but I'm a first tenor, and my favorite part is the last few chords because of the notes. :P They are not too high but just high so it's a beautiful full voice and not my falsetto and it just sounds... oh my gosh so amazing with my choir. I think this choir took too much time with it. I mean there may be a little pause, conductors choice... But I just love the way my conductor makes us sing this beautiful piece.
This is my favorite choir song, I like their version, but I think the instruments kind of take away what the voice brings to the song. When you sing this song, you feel lifted out of yourself. This is what heaven feels like=)

My choirs doing this song with the Madrigals at my school!!! Everyone loves it, even the people who are using choir as a time filler love this song!!!
My concert is singing this song and it's just so powerful. And so fun to sing but our choir is probably about a 1/4 of this one and I kinda wish it was just the piano that way I could actually hear the choir better.
@kmgtex I would agree only if the guys hit it right on the head. Alot can go wrong with this song if not done right. However i dont care who sings it if done well this song is soo good
I wish I could take out the powerful orchestra, not because they were bad or anything, but I want to hear just the choir and piano. It just seems to be less cluttered...
This song reminds me of my senior year. We sang this along with other schools in the district and I just loved how the song has so much emotion in it with the different feels in certain parts going from a eerie sound to a very rejoiced part. The notes that harmonize even with the clashing notes sound amazing! I would go back to the day I sang this song just to feel the emotion of singing this song
I sang this with my high school choir for my senior year, and every time I listen to it it makes me tear up from when the Sopranos come in with "Sole deo gloria" on. but this version.... I LITERALLY got CHILLS. I've heard it with an all men's chorus before, and it was beautiful, but my God, there's something about the sopranos that make it resonate for me. Maybe because I was a soprano 1 when I sang it, but it's beautiful, and with the orchestra... I'll never hear it quite the same again.
I think you guys did beautifully. My personal opinion, however, is that the song is best sung will all men. The effect is so much more grand. That's just me personally though. Good job on the song.
I have actually been blessed to have been able to work with Joseph Martin. He came to our church and conducted our Choir as a guest, then he performed some of his pieces. It was AMAZING! We performed The Awakening. Still one of my favorites. Pathway of Hope was written by Joe for our Church. Check it out some time! :)
The story behind Joe Martin writting this will bring tears to your eyes too. He wrote it in honor of his music teacher who was murdered the day before a school concert. Joe was the HS accompanist. He went home after rehersal, the next morning, his father came into his room in tears and told him what had happened. Thus the line, "No Hallelujah, Not one hosanna, no song of love, no lullaby".. The Awake part is to remember to let music LIVE no matter what!! There wasn't a dry eye after that.
@sib6sis3 That is SAD! I did not know about that for this song. It's incredible, because the awake part to the end is the part that always made me cry, especially since when I sang it it was my last high school performance ever.
@writergirl182003 Oh absolutely. When we finished the piece with Joe, I was in tears, it's just SO powerful! EVERY choir out there should try this because everyone will get something out of it!
@writergirl182003 oh I know what you mean, we rehearsed it for 2 months before Joe came then when he came and talked to us and why he wrote the piece gave it a whole new meaning, we were all thinking WOW!!! Then we all cried like babies. Very moving piece!
With the fragile state of the fine arts in schools across America, this song stands as one of the finest statements of the importance of music in our everyday lives!!! Kudos!!!
Our high school concert choir is performing it this year. We're already measuring up to many posted recordings (nothing like this, though. We're 1/8 their size!) As an alto, though, I must complain. I'm left singing tenor.
Our showchoir was invited to an event to perform and at the end, the hosting school brought all 10 choirs up to sing this, it was Beautiful. My only complaint is the hosting school sang about 4/5ths of the song and everyone joined in in the last 2 pages, it was still amazing.
My choir sang this song in one of the biggest churches in New York City, Riverside church. The judge was moved to tears on how good a group of high school students performed it.
We're singing this song for our Festival of Choirs...I love the alto part. And @LilKroog, I agree with you - best part of the song. It sounds beautiful.
I sang this choir my freshmen year of college and we are doing it again this year being my senior year. At our last performance I was moved to tears. This is such a beautiful song and such a great tribute to music.
We preformed this song at Carnegie two years ago. We didn't like it when we first started practicing it but when it comes together, it's magical. Awesome!
I'm an eighth grader and every year, the eighth grade choir students from all the middle schools in the district and the high school choir students sing a song together at the whole district concert and we're singing this.
It's the only song I've ever liked, and it's so beautiful. It gives me chills every single time I sing it.
I'm a high school student, and I'm singing this in for Regionals. It's by far my favorite choral piece. It is so extremely powerful and moving. 'Soli Deo Gloria! Let music live!'
This song is potent in the sense that the listener can almost imagine a taste of a world without music, and how lifeless it would be. Then like color in the movie Wizard of Oz, the music grows and sprouts to create something beautiful.
this brought tears to my eyes. i'm sophomore music major. hearing something like this, makes me understand why i love music. And, nothing can change that. Thank you for uploading this.
This song is absolutely incredible!!!!! And the group did a great job with it! my college choir is singing it this semester and I just love the piece so much.
this is possibly the most beautiful and most amazing song ever. for those of us with a burning passion for music and a love of great compositions. it is songs like this that make one love music soo much
A world with out Music is my personal HELL. I simply could not live without music. Whether classical, jazz, blues, rock, or what have you. Without music in life, it's not living.

My concert is singing this song and it's just so powerful. And so fun to sing but our choir is probably about a 1/4 of this one and I kinda wish it was just the piano that way I could actually hear the choir better.

better with just guys....

@kmgtex not true ha
mrloner666 9 months ago
@kmgtex I would agree only if the guys hit it right on the head. Alot can go wrong with this song if not done right. However i dont care who sings it if done well this song is soo good

I wish I could take out the powerful orchestra, not because they were bad or anything, but I want to hear just the choir and piano. It just seems to be less cluttered...

@Tan1723 yes i agree

@Tan1723
I was in an all men's choir that sang this and we had a very small orchestra and a great pianist. It does sound better without a big orchestra.

@casperstap No. The same title, but the different melody. :)

Loved this song! still do since the day my music teacher gave it to us.

sib6sis3 10 months ago
The story behind Joe Martin writting this will bring tears to your eyes too. He wrote it in honor of his music teacher who was murdered the day before a school concert. Joe was the HS accompanist. He went home after rehersal, the next morning, his father came into his room in tears and told him what had happened. Thus the line, "No Hallelujah, Not one hosanna, no song of love, no lullaby".. The Awake part is to remember to let music LIVE no matter what!! There wasn't a dry eye after that.
sib6sis3 10 months ago 4
@sib6sis3 That is SAD! I did not know about that for this song. It's incredible, because the awake part to the end is the part that always made me cry, especially since when I sang it it was my last high school performance ever.
writergirl182003 10 months ago
@writergirl182003 Oh absolutely. When we finished the piece with Joe, I was in tears, it's just SO powerful! EVERY choir out there should try this because everyone will get something out of it!
sib6sis3 9 months ago
@writergirl182003 oh I know what you mean, we rehearsed it for 2 months before Joe came then when he came and talked to us and why he wrote the piece gave it a whole new meaning, we were all thinking WOW!!! Then we all cried like babies. Very moving piece!

With the fragile state of the fine arts in schools across America, this song stands as one of the finest statements of the importance of music in our everyday lives!!! Kudos!!!

I miss this song so much </3 I did it last year. It's one of my favorite things I've ever sung, easily.

Our high school concert choir is performing it this year. We're already measuring up to many posted recordings (nothing like this, though. We're 1/8 their size!) As an alto, though, I must complain. I'm left singing tenor.

Wow i love this song sooo much! it is a lot of fun to sing too.

Awesome!

You should listen to it with Joseph Martin himself playing the piano. So much passion! Not a dry eye in the whole 3,000 plus seats.

"Let Music Never Die in Me, Forever Let My Spirit Sing!" That line is going to be the basis for my tattoo.
