  • Have they torn up the rails?

  • @Conducter49 Yup, most of the track is gone, with the exception of the depot area.

  • They probably also shut down the railroad to beacuse of the increasing boiler safty regulations that the government is enforcing, thats the reason the Eurekas Springs & North Arkansas railroad isn't in the best shape, Eureka Springs also had to stop the steam because of the rising insuance costs once again because of stupid government regulations, and because of the complaining neighbors. the government wants to seemingly destroy everything we like in this world.

  • I grew up in Merton and for as long as I can remember you could here the steam train whistle blowing on Sunday afternoon. It was a very sad day when the Sundays were quiet.

  • You know, the Laona and Northern would be a great place for #9, they have a similar, but slightly larger 2-6-2. They take excellent care of that engine, and a Prarie double-header would be quite something.

  • Suburbia Sucks! I didn't know this was hsut down. I remember going there with my father and riding in the cab of #9

  • #9 and the heisler have gone to green bay ive heard of a third #16 where is she and whyd they shut the railroad down

  • @pennyf9 ^-^ I moved to WI in 2003, short of when the line was shut down fully. From my looking into old articles.. The guy in video was being VERY nice about it considering the true reason was from harrasment and fines the Village and CIty's of Merton, WI put on them as people saw it as a junk yard place with loud things moving all day. The line as well as depot and old KMRY deisel are sitting there still; i see a boiler as well as a old couch and theres a baggage car hiding in the background

  • @pennyf9 When i found it I was pretty excited and when i found it didn't run; it really hurt as I'm pretty much a huge fan of steam trains of the day. I used to ride ESNA #1 and 201 in Eureka SPrings, AR in the day before they put them on the No Service list pending funds to someday rebuild the boiler to US standards. If someday I ever won powerball or soemthing; i'd probibly try buying the place. I did find too.. a locomotive works still operates on the premises.

  • Interesting how they had Speeder Cars following the train.

  • Amazing!

  • an outstanding video. excellent production. congrats on a film well done.

  • Very cool video, I posted a video response showing a Kettle Moraine coach being trucked to and unloaded at the Virginia & Truckee Railroad in Virginia City, Nevada. Two of those coaches are being used on the train this year from Carson City to Virginia City. Tom Gray of VTRR did a great job restoring them, with the wicker seats!

I have other videos showing a second car being delivered, and a cousin car from Michigan that Thomas Edison rode on makes three! It goes into service in a few days.

  • whatever happened to those 2 locomotives? Did they get sent somewhere else? Or were they scrapped? Just looking at the former line brings a tear to my eye. R.I.P. KMR!

  • The Heisler was rebuilt last year and is now running in Arizona on the "Copper Spike Train Excursion." As far as I know 2-6-2 No. 9 is still in North Lake, but it hasn't run in many years.

  • @jterry618 I think 9 went to the museum in Green Bay but i am not exactly sure.

  • I don't think it's there. I visited in 2009 and it wasn't. The Heisler was there for a short time, but it eventually was moved off to Arizona.

  • mr steven you interiewed was actually a big dog at the georgetown loop railroad in colorado.

  • I rode this train when I was kid in 1998 and 1999. It was a fun little train. I couldn't believe it when I heard it was going to no longer run. Thanks so much for sharing!!

  • Great job making this video jterry618. I was there that day, and many other times with my children. I had the opportunity to befriend Mr. Butler when I did some volunteer work for KMRR. He was very dedicated. It's a shame some of our public officials are so short sighted.

  • Encroachig suburbia! What kind of lame idea t shut down this operation, they should of told suburbia to move elsewhere

  • Suburbia comes no matter what. I wished that too, but I think the yuppies in the subdivisions hate the sound of the train (ironically though, many are located along railroad tracks anyways). It still sucks though.

  • I agree!

  • My fist ever steam experience was going to that railroad when I was really little. Kind of a blur, still such a crying shame.

  • Sad little tale Jeff, thanks for sharing! 5* - Mike
