  • This is actually dangerous because you should be breathing when exercising to feed the tissues and muscle but it's cool anyway.

    25 lbs is 25 lbs. If you don't think this is heavy enough go to my 50 lbs lift and watch me do 2 sets on 10 on a single breath. By the way if you think this is easy watch me to 3 sets of 15 or 45 reps underwater in a single breath. Most people cannot do more then 45 seconds underwater never mind 45 reps of a 25 lbs curl bar underwater.

  • @Alexanderiathegreat not saying this isn't hard, but you have to subtract the weight of displaced water to get the actual weight you are lifting. :-\ 25 pounds isn't 25 pounds underwater. physics

  • You have to breath when lifting weights or you can pass out from lack of oxygen.

  • When I am doing uw lifts it is to help me to learn how to deal with stress while holding my breath. You are right I have to be careful not to black out. For me though whether it is lifting or escaping chains and shackles I have to learn how to hold my breath while exerting a lot of effort and not black out.

    I know which is why I do it to train my body to tolerate more stress underwater. I am an escape artist and if I don't train for the worst then I will not be prepared.

    You are right in the strict sense as you draw your power from proper breathing and lose the aerobic benefits to the excerise as well. For me I am trying to work on holding my breathe under severe stress and the weight lifting is asking my body to respond in a stressful way and still hold my breath. I would caution against anyone doing this as I am a trained professional and if done incorrectly shallow water blackout can occur which can be fatal.

  • I did just 25 pounds in these curls. I can do more but uw I usually go a little lighter. I am a power lifter so lifting is not big deal. I love to lift.

  • It is difficult but fun. I love to lift. I do uw lifting to try and increase my ability to hold my breath under extreme stress. This so I can try and stay under longer in my escapes. Being an escape artist & jumping into a pool with 55 pounds of chains and shackles is very stressful. It's hard to hold your breath in those situations. You need to try & be calm and learn to conserve as much O2 as possible so you have enough time to escape. These exercises are designed 2 increase my bh time
