Possibly off in a detail or two, but that's all. You want long drawn out facts about the story (I know this may be difficult for you to grasp, but do your best) - DON'T LOOK UP AN "IN MEMORIAM" VID. That said, no credible evidence exist re the people drinking laced Cool Aid. Significant evidence exist that they were murdered. ("Evidence of Revision" Part 5). Though they'd practiced mass suicide, when an actual situation arose, no one wanted to participate. They were injected with cyanide, shot, or strangled.

CNN replayed their special about Jonestown laswt weekend. I was intrigued and went home to tell my family about it. My mother brought up her cousin, who suffered from shell shock, who went missing for a few years, and was counted among the dead at Jonestown. Wonderful video!

4. The members had no access to outside sources for news (there is some footage of Jones telling his members that the USA and UK had reverted back to slavery).

5. Jones did organise Ryan's killing and shortly before Ryan left the Jonestown compund he was attacked by a PT member with a knife.

6. The rehearsals you refer to were known as "White nights".

7. Jones was also engaged in a custody battle for his ex-second in command's son who was killed in Jonestown.

I have been studying the PT for 2 years as part of my A level. A few corrections:

1. 918 people died on Nov 18 not 913. There was a house owned by the PT in Georgetown in Guyana whose residents also commited suicide.

2. Only 2 people died of gunshot wounds within the compound Jones and his typist (as you said Austin).

3. Jones was not simply crazy. By Nov 18 he had almost totally capitulated to a very serious drug addiction.

Jim Jones was a mentally sick man. He had charisma just like Charles Mason. He had people kill for him but also had them take their own lives. These people that did this act, lacked any self esteem courage or hope. They seen themselves as outsiders in the USA culture, just as many do today. Those that did die because Jones said it was time to die were very few, but they too were "murdered". They were coerced by Jones. Brainwashed, if you will. That's not suicide. That's murder.

Actually most drank because they were manipulated into believing they had no way out of their situation. He had murdered others and then stated no one will get out alive. You're right, those people didn't have a choice, so I'd consider it slaughter, but the fact that the majority decided to take the poison instead of a bullet technically made it suicide. This event which they had practiced was also known to them as revolutionary mass suicide.
