Actually there a ceramic platter. I'll just stick to a good old 7,200 RPM hard drive with metal platters so I won't have to worry about breaking my hard drive when I move my computer.

I wasn't able to speak via IDE cable to it anymore so this was the only way to "get rid of personal data" before throwing it away. Think about data security, hm? It was an old one anyway, too slow for work, too old for selling it. I guess if it had worked I wouldn't even be able to give it away as a gift. I got a 30 GB disk here, fully functional. No one wants to have it...

Believe me: I heard much heavier sounds in the old days where computer centers used 5 or 10 MB disks, the big ones, which you have to screw in. If a head slashes at the metal your ears almost died, it was loud as hell and a more worse tone than this here...
