most of that money she is talking about (the defense contracts) was not just money given to companies in order to operate, but for PURCHASES from private corporations. companies compete for CONTRACTS, not funds. when the government funds private and public groups for R&D through entities such as DARPA it is done with expectation of usage of the findings. there is a big difference between a contract and direct funding. she happily and twistedly lumped them all together.

Raising taxes on the 'rich' could also be considered a "bill of attainder" due to the fact that it is a punishment for acquiring too much wealth. Also passing out funds through corporate/social welfare programs could also be taken as a punishment to those that are NOT part of the collective groups the programs help. Yes, I watched the entire video. She advocated this, not explicitly in the sense that the others should be gotten rid of, but more so in the sense that "if you do this, then you'll also have to do this, so it's not in your best interest to do that in the first place; therefore, don't do it". That was my point.

But that's not what she said. She said that she doesn't mind them de-funding ACORN if it also means that you also de-fund these organizations that committed REAL fraud, crime, child prostitution, and killed innocent people and the troops. Libertarians and Progressives have been trying to get rids of funding these organizations for YEARS yet we didn't see Dems OR GOP trying to cut funding from these groups. She is not defending ACORN, she is just putting the entire situation in perspective.

Exactly, but the "...if it also means..." makes it all too conditional. I guess I was just wishing that she had been more adamant about getting rid of all of them.

The way she puts everything, it seems more like she's saying that, by comparison, "you have no right to complain about (let alone de-fund) Acorn if you still support X, Y, and Z organizations who have done much worse things" rather than saying that they should all be gotten rid of, which is what she should have done MUCH more of.

I guess it has to do with the way different people take things in because I didn't get that from what she said. I analyzed the video three times before I worked my desk shift. I understand that is how you interpreted it but I didn't get that feeling from watching it. She wasn't defending ACORN but just pointing out the Republican & Democratic hypocrisy.

But that is how I interpreted it but I think that interpretation is more correct.

Also, look at it from this perspective. Why is it fair that ACORN gets to lose Federal Funding when all of these other Corporate Welfare programs continue to get funding. These Corporate Welfare programs have done more harm and have cost us much more money than ACORN has.

This issue is so partisan and so bias and Rachel is just pointing it out.

De-funding ACORN is not the answer. How is that going to keep them from committing crimes, if they really did commit crimes. Those "conservative journalist" did not actually catch any crime, they just caught some ACORN workers being stupid. It does shed some light on how low some of these ACORN workers can go...

Therefore, ACORN and all of these other Corporations like Haliburton and KBR need to be INVESTIGATED!!! FBI, CIA, State and Local police investigations, and they should be PUT IN JAIL!

I'm talking about needless spending and increased governmental programs that extend the scope of government and their intended purpose of protecting the people. So no most of those programs should not be cut. But some of those programs aren't even covered by the US government. TV and radio for example and should be privately owned for free speech reason alone.

FDA, NOAA, NASA, & the FCC are federal agencies. The FCC isn't needed. NASA... we could live without it if it was gone tomorrow. But, NOAA.... we should keep it. FDA... it can hang around.

But police, ems, fire, electrical, water, schools, phone services of the 911, 411, & 311 are all local community services.

My TV, radio, & the 5 star car ratings are all from private industry.

So... which Social Programs are we talking about ?
