  • nice Derek , Susan and Kras from Soulive at the end of the clip not to mention one of my favorite A.B.B. songs

  • my god can she sing. I love female singers that can perform like this.

  • calerouan, your an idiot. keep it shut

  • Here you admonishing me for my benign opininion on guitarist and then call me dumb and with malice use vulgarity making yourself out to be the very person whom you espouse youself not to be........get yourself an education kid and then maybe you will make more sense when you attempt to debate someone.....when it comes to music what you know would fit in a thimble , you've already proved that

  • And there you are, still arguing. Thinking your opinion is the godliest of all holiest of holy opinions. lolol at this guy.

I just enjoy music. Stop overanalyzing.

  • @calerouan Your contention that "Duane was a pioneer, Derek is a settler..." is not an uninteresting one, but the way you go about making your point leaves a lot to be desired. If playing cover songs, in and of itself, makes one derivative or un-original, then the Beatles, The Stones, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Buddy Miles, Hendrix, and Duane himself were, by the standards you have set out here, settlers, not innovators. Ergo, shut the hell up.

  • pioneer?

  • A SETTLER IS NOT A PIONEER

  • If they were as good as they attest to be they would be doing their own shit ,...case closed.......give me a fucking break,....while imitation is the greatest form of flattery, it is still an imitation....

  • They're not attesting to be as good as anyone says they are, and this may come as a surprise to you, but they actually do do their own shit.

They're just musicians that play the music they love, and if it just so happens to be covers so be it, at least they're doing them justice and having a good time.

  • Yes I'm sure they do some good originals, but Butch Trucks is of the idea that Derek Trucks is a much better guitarist than Duane Allman was.......and just doing your own songs does not equate to being a prolific genius as was Duane's case

  • Well I don't know, nor do I care about who is better, but Derek Trucks has developed his own techniques with the slide and his right hand, along with exhibiting a slightly broader range of influences than Duane (eg. Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Sun Ra, etc etc).

To me I think both are excellent guitarists in their own right, and one, especially from a younger generation, shouldn't be criticised for paying homage to the other, who also happens to be one of his main influences.

  • Influences are great, but the crux of my point is unless you are forging new ground, you will remain a settler.......

  • that's kind of a dumb statement. just let the man jam! where is your band!!!!

  • Well I don't believe it is dumb to state what I believe , especially when so many are saying Derek is a better guitarist than Duane Allman,.....I maintain my position that Duane Allman was a pioneer and Derek Trucks is a settler, .....for those of you without any musical discretion I imagine that sounds dumb......

  • Cool, bash my musical discretion when you don't have a fucking clue about anything i may or may not know.

You're just another idiot on youtube that's going to argue to make yourself look like you're smarter than everyone else.

Why don't you quit over-analyzing music and just LISTEN brother!

Who cares who the better guitarists is!

Now, i for one, like listening to derek trucks, if i wanted to talk about duane perhaps i would go watch one of his videos.

  • @calerouan And the Allman Brothers never did a cover before? Please man if you even listened to blues before you realize that everything comes form somewhere else, it's just the way it is.

And secondly, Derek plays this song WITH the Allman brothers ( he's been a member since 2000 I believe) and lastly I bet this song came from somewhere else as well.

  • Thanks so much for making this recording. I missed this last year, but I'm gonna make sure to see every single show next year!

  • i don't feel like duane trucks adds much. in the couple of shows i have from this summer tour he only muddies up rico's work.

i love to see kraz playing with them though. too bad the vid cut his solo.

  • he's a young guy. i think derek lets him play with the band to get some experience.

  • is there a recording of this show anywhere?

  • it can be found at archivedotorg i believe. Howlin' Wolf is the venue. From 2008

  • yeah boy

  • play the blues as G.A. would say=See Duane the music will never die.

  • right on dude
