I don't like Vaganova school. It's insanely hard. That girls become perfect dancers, but they're empty, inexpressives. Check paris opera ballet school. they're perfect, but they're expressives too.

Not really. Vaganova has produced some AMAZING dancers, expressive and unique as well as perfect with tecnique. And some Paris Opera ballerina lack the discipline that Vaganova ballerinas have. Paris Opera is an incredibly good school, but NOT better than Vaganova.

The dancers that came out of the Vaganova school in the past, were always known for their expressiveness. As Makarova , a former graduate of the school, used to say, the Russian soul can be seen when watching the great Kirov ballerinas. The Vaganova school has always and still does have acting classes that work on classical acting such as Giselle and also character acting. The great Kirov ballerinas of the past were much more expressive than the great Paris Opera ballerinas See mad scene Giselle

When I lived in Russia, I lived in Moscow and I was accepted to the Moscow State Academy of Choreography(world famous ballet pro academy, just like Vaganova). But I was accepted to the prep classes(ПОДГОТОВИТЕЛЬНОЕ ОТДЕЛЕНИЕ) because I was only 9, not 10. I have done the Vaganova system ballet and it's very intense and a much better way to learn and develop ballet, however i don't think i could eat cucumbers for my lunch - every lunch.... Russian ballet is really good though woo!

most ballerinas arent skinny because they are starved by the teachers. most do it out of love for ballet. at a audition i may be able to dance as well as the girl next to me but she will get the part because she is smaller. you are easier to lift and dont jiggle when you land. its just the way it is.

Many of these kids ARE underweight as their doctor (pediater - I'm not sure if the spelling is correct) says in the middle of this video.

As for their pointe shoes - no names are mentioned in this video. I am not a ballerina so I most probably am WRONG - but the only brand I've heard about here in Moscow is Grishko though I've never tried searching for any other.

Very informative and interesting.American dancers might look"healthier"-what does it mean anyway?- but that doesn't make them better dancers.Also,please remember we are seeing *very* young people being accepted by the school,I don't think they're underweight,just extremely young and into ballet.There's a certain necessary physique for training at the strict Vaganova,whether you like it or not,some of the most wonderful ballet dancers ever trained there.

You know I have to say that russian ballet dancers, to me have never looked as healthy as american dancers. To me they look a little on the gross side. At least the younger ones do. And I mean we're the fattest country in the world but still. Just doesn't look as beautiful when they're that underweight.

Ballerina's have to be skinny for specific reasons just like weightlifters have to be heavy!They don't have to be exactly that thin and when they grow older they get alot of muscle as well.Like polina Semionova she's thin but she has a lot of muscle so techniqly she's not underweight cause' muscle weighs more than fat so there for ballerina's have to be skinny so that when they develope muscle they arn't heavy for the men to lift them!
