I do much the same thing, creating 1 gal at a time. The recipe I use for 1 gal has 1/2 c washing soda, 1/2 c borax, and 1/3 bar fels naptha (grated). I haven't tried using a "regular" soap. Mine gets a little "goopy" as it cools. So I try to whisk it now and then so it doesn't set up like gelatin. Have you tried adding essential oils to the laundry soap? I've been thinking about orange to help break down body oils and odor.
Will try! Experimented with Dr Bronner's Rose Soap & vinegar past few wks... scent was unbearable. Poured rest of Bronner's Rose soap, in garden today, as insecticide.
I just started making the powdered version ( I prefer liquid but I need to get a bucket first), and I was surprised how well it works for such little money. I will definitely make more of it. How long have you been using homemade? Could your family tell the difference? I used Ivory soap to make mine, but I also have some Fels Naptha.
I've made the powdered version of homemade laundry soap with borax and washing soda plus fels naptha (sp) but never the liquid variety. Very cool! How much water did you use?
Is this cheaper that regular detergent you get in the store?

@freetosew Oh yes! five gallons of liquid laundry soap for about the cost of a bar of naptha soap.

Wow that's one of your shortest video's, but it looks simple enough, I'm going to try to make this at home.
