Thanks, yes your quite right the Snake is inherently unstable and has to be actively controlled just to stay upright.
The actuators are compliant muscle like actuators which gives a 'springiness' similar to human muscle movement.
The structure is designed to be quite 'sloppy' and 'soft' so repeatability and accuracy were not the main design drivers. Smooth movement was one of the primary design goals.
