The point of encasing water color pigment in wood is to allow the artist to also apply the pigment much as you would a pencil. After you have laid down a wash, you can then draw over that wash to add linear elements or scumble the surface, which produces a ruff texture distinct from dry brush application. You can also do your preliminary drawing and guide lines with these pencils so that when you brush in the color the guide lines unlike pencil, will disappear or incorporate into the wash.

ins't it a real waste when sharpening these pencils? I think there great but how about the waste....

These are my favourite watercolour pencils, I also like how the colours match with the Polychromos, so you can use them together in a picture
