I am a teacher of students with disabilities. I have a student who has down syndrome and I tell you what, this little boy has LITERALLY changed my life. I feel so blessed to be his teacher. He has some really great challenges (more so than most kids) including type I diabetes and PTSD from being abused as a toddler before being adopted by his amazing parents. I think it is a lovely thing that there are so many loving and beautiful down's kids. But the reality of raising a special needs child is that they-at best, are twice the workload or more of raising a typical child.

My friend chose to keep her child born with down's and she said she could never imagine a day without him-but if she knew the enormous sacrifice on her life, career, and finances before havine her child, she would have done thing differently.
