  • Outrun for Master System

  • gotta luv how the sound of squeaking tires is just like the one on a laser gun XD

  • GOD i loved outrun and my master system . Still play outrun on mame and just used passing breeze in one of my latest mashups . Done almost 300 retro gamer mixes now and 660 traks in total . Anyone with a pasiion for old skool gaming and music is welcome to come exploe my archives :) . Exellent review and nostalgic blast from the pat . Yeah testdrive unlimited is cool . I also enjoy the racing rooms in gta4 . a whole moving city full of traffic and peopleto race around , thats gotta be a 1st

  • @ohhhREALY will responce my new outrun tune here :) I did 2 outrun tunes that day . hit my page to check the other out :)

  • Hi there, do you have this version of video, but without the talking?

  • This looks fantastic for an 8 bit version of Outrun. Far better than any of the 8 bit computer versions. Very impressed.

  • @dumbfk12 yes really, you look at the graphix, i know theres lack of color

  • best part about this game -- if you sat at the start line, the flag guy got really pissed and flailed around. i think he even throws the flag down and walks away or something like that.

  • 300kph = 186mph

  • if you stayed quiet was much better!

  • lol this was the first ever game i played on for the master system used to love this sooo much when i young how times change

  • theres is not even 1 game today that gives you the thrill of playing like old school games like super mario world, streets of rage, golden axe, MK2, SF2, contra, and many more! and belive me, i play almost everygame that comes new for pc!

  • I love this show and it is my sincere hope that Mark is able to find a good actual master system (preferably model 1, I used both and my model 1 was the best) because some of the problems he mentions about flicker are things I do not remember happening to me. If I get another retro system it will be a master system as I really regret selling mine. I had this game among others and I loved it.

  • speccy version shits on it!

  • The music here seems to run a bit faster than on my copy of the game. Would I be correct to assume that is because of the PAL/NTSC difference?

  • The Music at 8:28 puts a Smile on my Face Magical Sound Shower :D

  • you do great reviews. i wish you'd have played "Splash Wave" a little longer. that was my favorite song!

  • How is this a racing game if you're the only car on the road?

  • @Theriot6592 well, is a race against the time...

  • @Theriot6592 there are other cars on the road but its a race against the clock game trying to complete the game before time runs out notice the "time" indicator on the top of the screen and the "extended time" pop up whenever you get to a check point?

  • i love the OC remix to these tracks

  • wow I used to play it as a kid and sucked at it hard I wish this came back on the wii console this would bring back memories

  • I know this game! Brings back memories i loved this game

  • I wish it was made for the wii console!

  • The soundtrack sounds pretty good.

  • this is what a game is. only you, infront of a screen, no lags, no interruptions, just pure gaming fun.

  • Comment removed

  • EXCELLENT !!

  • Thank you for posting! Great memories at the Arcade and at home with my Master System!

  • i think the bloke who reiews these crappy old games just likes talking !

  • @TheStevo75 Go and play Black Ops you know that mindless shooting piece of crap with terrible graphics and horrible in my book even pong beat's that piece of shit. Old school is for gamers not for people with less IQ than a plank of wood.

  • @h0lyh4ck3r I agree, true gamers play games from all eras.

  • @h0lyh4ck3r oh so wat r u saiyng is that people that plays black ops is a no brainer??? i play black ops and i respect that u dont like black ops or new games but u dont need to call people that play shitty games is no brainer . every person that plays a shitty game or not is still a gamer not a douchebag or a no brainer with no IQ

  • @TheStevo75 then what happend to YOUR nostalgia HUH? taken away by school? you just LOVE call of duty, call of duty is the number one "other game hater creator" series in the world, mostly hateing a certan nintendo franchise that includes a bunch of creatures, and thats when they invented the "annoying pokemon phrase", well, crap, that gave it away, anyways done even think about saying it, so you also hate games that i cant come up with because im runnign out of letters, so i should say fuck you

  • i think the bloke who reiews these crappy old games just likes talking !

  • @TheStevo75 crappy old games? why even bother watching, go play mw2 and stfu asshole

  • @TheStevo75 Quit talking trash about old school games. Just because newer games have better graphics doesn´t mean they are better. Gameplay is much more important than graphics.

  • @Kazamachampion hes a asshole, guess what i did, Traded my PSP for A Neo Geo Pocket Color!!, i always liked the old school games better

  • @Kazamachampion fuck you moron! on the contrary! it is the old games that sererate the better people from the mindless brainwashed hip and trendy violence seeking motion sickness thirlls that most games today produce.... you know jack crap about nothing! Out run is a happy game simple and free from your bullshit!

  • i had this, cool game. the soundtrack is cool too.

  • YE i remember this game well Luved it , Quality Music Hearing it takes me back years its crazy Hang on was cool Back then aswel 2 Speed ferrari =) wow takes me back, they were the days Choosing your own path added the whole element of adventure Excellent Game for back then Nice one for nostalgic Buzz

  • Game yang ingetin masa kecilku nih.. ngga ada hari tanpa game ini :D

  • I never like, this game. But i must admit that it have a good music.

  • I still love to play Out Run. I got it for the Sega Master System, Genesis, Game Boy Advance, PlayStation 2 & XBOX. This game needs a release on the Wii Virtual Console.

  • lllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll

  • Main Explanation why is just I played it on the Sega Master System but I still little when I played it and I wasn't good at it much

  • this should be on Wii Virtual Console I dunno why it's not

  • @BrandyDanekid Wow, are you kidding me?

  • @BrandyDanekid please find something to occupy your time with you weirdo. Why would you do this?? Get a job!!

  • lovin the music

  • Now whats with the Walt Disney cartoons on the related bar...

  • aah the memories

  • The music sound like something from a sega gamegear

  • @metrostarful because the mastersystem and game gear share similar hardware.

  • The Master System is still my favorite console of all time.

Shinobi and Alex Kidd FTW :D

  • The SMS version is just too easy, and ugly, and that music!!!!

  • swear to god the first video game i ever played was segas hang on best game ever

  • The C64 version looks much better, which is surprising given the power of the master system.

  • Wow, So many memories playing this game. Thanks for this flashback!!!

  • man i played the hell out of this game when i was a kid. i wish wii shop had it to download.

  • I enjoyed that. Thanks for bringing back the memories of my younger days.

  • Bastard

  • Hahaha, "this is one of the rare two speed Ferrari Testarossas."

  • je jouai a ce jeux en 1991

  • The master system version was heavily toned down compared to the original arcade version (weaker graphics/music). until the Genesis/Megadrive came along you needed an Amiga or IBM PC to experience it in your home in full quality.

  • @llynellyn I'm not sure if the terrible Atari ST port that was released for the Amiga can really be described as "full quality"! :)

  • @roberthazelby And the PC version I know is a ported Atari ST/Amiga version, with 16 colour EGA graphics and terribly designed beeper music...

  • compearing it with modern games is a nothing. but think that it was the best those years...

  • SEGA Genesis Classics

  • He should have said this game also has replay value because you get to see different endings, depending on which route you take.

  • i remmember i had this game for pc when i was a kid!

  • "The choose your own adventure of driving games" that was the most 80s epicness said ever to this game.

  • Damn I remember this one and Out runners.

  • Im licking my lips tasting my sweet memories of this game in the arcade.

  • Loved this game....... and still own it, along with the master system 1 console :) Back in the day I think I remember paying around £13 for the game. Picked up Battle Outrun and Outrun Europa a couple of years back for £1.99 each from gamestation retro games counter...... how times change hey?

  • review outrun on the ps3

  • "youll have to kick out the blonde girl out of the car to fit all the other girls in" hahahaha, just exelent :-)

and sure, a bunch of lovely ladies is always better than a few camels :-P

  • The SMS version of Splash Wave gave me a nostalgia attack.

Mark, you really should review Out Run 2006 Coast to Coast!

  • Check "Brilek", an Arkanoid Remake i'm working on. w ww.delek.com.ar

  • what this fuck ?? =)

    its crazy

  • I also first played this game in a pizzaria they had the sit in drive one

  • This was in every pizzaria in the 80's

  • I was never good at this in the arcade. Probably because I only remember being in the desert.

  • money should come with the same speed as score in this game

  • No conocía la versión de Master Systen. Bastante interesante para tratarse de una consola tan limitada, aunque superior técnicamente a la NES, claro.

  • i've played a similar game, i think it was called Lamborghini american challenge or something.

  • @ThatFurryDude

yeah that was for the SNES, but it's not good as outrun.

  • Such great music on this game.

  • @youtubasoarus best comment ever

  • este juego me encanta, he jugado mucho con él...

  • the music, i love it

    nostalgia

  • Reminds me of Rad Racer.

  • Yu Suzuki is the godfather of arcade games.

  • I played this game on Windows 3.11.

The colors where pink and black.

    it was awsome!!!

  • 3:32 the white car looks like its runing LOL

  • @gaia94: Yes , the car at 3:32 is jerking left and right!

  • 2 speed Ferrari? Not as batty as it sounds.

I think the Lamborghini Espada had a 2 speed auto transmission. Then again Lamborghini started out life as a tractor factory. So it makes perfect sense!

  • I wish they put the Hornet in this game series

  • two camels in a tiny car

  • I love my Gran Turismo and Forza Motorsport but this was my first racing game. The music is still better than both.It gives the adventure feeling.

  • not 2 but 3 camels in a tiny car! :D also the sound is amaizing. There are very few songs in video games that truly appeal to me, but this one just stood up from the moment it begun. Liked and favourited!

  • Thank you 3D for making racing games enjoyable...

  • @qcenaman retro may be in the 3rd demention, but it still rocked :)

  • @jestoon425 demention? :P hehe

  • I'd like to see this game come to the Wii Virtual Console!

  • thanks for the revews , for all those morons out there that love to ruin the fun for people by being hateful and commenting stuff that should not be on you tube , go eat a pineapple.

  • yeah its a good game and maybe a good system but nowdays there are better...

And it has a bad graph... its too old to compare with nowday's games

  • I wish they put this on the wii console I used to play it as a kid but wasn't good at it at all

  • Great game.

    Great system.

Go away if you have a mental disorder.

Thanks for the reviews, i love your reviews.

  • compared to the arcade..hummmm!!?

  • wait till I fire up my Commdore, that's classic

  • Out run is a great game on most systems. The Ms had a good port and it was fast. poor versions include the Atari st and Amiga.

  • man brings back a few memories, love the jinge at the start of the videos

  • what is the song they use at the beginning of their videos?

  • unfortunatly I never had the original outrun, I did however have battle outrun (which plays nothing like the original... instead you have to ram target cars untill you disable them.)

  • like the music

  • Ah... I remember Outrun for C-64. I played it on cassette. Actually you couldn't choose the path in the game, but you had to load a special path from the cassette. They had the same game recorded like 6 times on the same cassette :P

    Still rocked though.

  • lol at the dramatic tire screech today this game is so bad but back then it wass good

  • The original Outrun will never be bad, no matter what the year or which console you play it on. The sequels are crappy though, as are the spin offs like Turbo, Europe, Battle, etc. They're playable and can be fun for a bit but don't come close to 'OUTRUN'

  • looks a lot like Top Gear

  • good game, i like how theres an edge of the sea at 1:30

    >_>

  • I have the SMS cartridge of Out Run, but I don't have an SMS (I have a Power Base Converter for the Model 1 Genesis). When I played Out Run on the KEGA emulator the other day, the music and sound effects were different than when I played them on the Power Base and on the MEKA emulator. What's that about?

  • The emulator is emulating an optional FM modulator chip that was available in some markets but not the USA. Many SMS games supported including Double Dragon.

  • My all time fave game.

    Super Mario Bros is too.

  • Wow, I remember this crap (not crap back then of course). Amazing how video game technology changed drastically over the years.

  • It's still not crap, you bastard

  • its not crap, still awesome games....new games, well lets just say i only have about 14 for my ps3 and shit loads for my megadrive, snes, nes, mastersystem, atari 2600, psx and all that....

  • Classic bro

  • maravilhoso marcou epoca.

  • I wanna buy Super Outrun or just some old school game for less than 4 dollars today but I have Homework!

    What should I do?

My academic future, or late 80's technology??

  • both....

    O_o

  • wow, the sound is really amazing on this game!

  • Before he says it, I'm gonna just say right now that I always kept accidentally shifting to low gear during gameplay because I would inevitably hit up and down during my race.

    It pissed me off.

  • Did you know that, despite having to calculate twice as much pictures, the Outrun 3-D Version (for Master System, too) is much nearer to the arcade version and has more details?

  • If you combine passing breeze with 8 bit and fm sound it sounds cool!

  • this game IS atari's enduro updated

  • Outrun is my fav game of all time. A few months after Outrun 2006 Coast to Coast came out, I went to PC-World to buy it......the really sad thing is that no one knew about it, and they had never even heard of the original! the 'kid' was like "umm is it like 'need for speed'?"

  • Well, after Carbon it did. Though I have yet to play Undercover, which goes back to the old style a bit.

NFS II and III were sick too. But OutRun and OutRunners come out to the same quality as Most Wanted (on 360 and PC at least, the others aren't as good) and Carbon.

  • @TheBadTour i wouldnt say that i mean better graphic

  • @TheBadTour

Which one? Hot Pursuit 3 was my favorite and it did not suck!

  • @TheBadTour NFS sucks cock

  • @TheBadTour

the 1st need for speed was wondeful then start to get bad

  • @355LTM I really loved undergrond 1. I thought it was extremely fast paced and exciting, and I loved how hitting a single car can ruin all your efforts. Of course, by the time Most Wanted came around, the racing itself absolutely sucked, but the police chases could be some good fun. On the other hand though, I thoroughly disliked the speedbreaker feaure. It felt entirely like cheating.

To be fair, I'd say NFS has had its ups and downs.

  • I got dat Outrun 2006 Coast 2 Coast on my PS2!!!!

  • @LukeFrench01 that is sad..... T_T

  • my favourite one!

i used to sit in the arcade without insert any coin. But I drive it anyway (or I thought i was driving it).

When I was a child. I play it nowadays, is the best!

  • thanks for sponsoring classic video games man. especially the Sega master system.

  • I love this game.

  • it's amazing how true the sms-version of outrun is to the original arcade version, while hang-on for sms basically has nothing in common with the original except the name

  • "holy sh*t, a harem. now you have to kick the blonde girl out of your car to fit the other girls in" ! hahahahaha, a classic gaming saying, and you heared that first on CGR !

  • 7:49 I have nothing against the SMS itself, but it's undeniable that the boxes and cartridges really are something to behold: they range from bland to ugly. Why did they put that grid on the boxes? It looks like a prototype or something.

Oh well, it probably makes collecting them more interesting, if nothing else.

  • 7:11 "Alright, I won camels! Awesome."

  • this was the best outrun untill the turbografx one (and later saturn)

  • It's a pretty well known fact (among game collectors) that the best-selling console is NOT the most-powerful console:

ATARI - not as good as intellivision

NES - not as powerful as SMS or Atari7800

SNES - well, there's always an exception to every rule ;-)

PS1 - not as powerful or "clean" as N64 graphics

PS2 - not as powerful as the Xbox or Cube

Wii - not as powerful as X360 or PS3

  • the top 3 i agree to :-) but the PS1 luckilly had no "blurr" effect over the graphics, and (my favorite game on the N64) mario 64 had big polygon's, low detail on the polygons (so not the textures), but still it managed to have POP UP, so in my opinion, the N64 had EXELENT games, but to bad it was a bit underpowered. i expected MUCH more from a 64 bit system. even with the memory expansion unit it could not wow me graphics wise.

  • @harleykman PS2 not as powerful as the Gamecube?I thought only the XBOX was more powerful than the PS2.But hey, I might be wrong.Peace.

  • I agree with frradrian. In many ways it was like NES on some crystal meth, temporarily very strong for some things(games) and not other things(games). a bit drawn out but you get the point.

  • If you have an xbox360 connected to live, then you must get the new outrun. Its an excellent game. I have met more gamers my age (34) than i have in any other online game i have played.

  • Outrun online arcade?

im downloading it now on the PSN, its at 89%!

sucks we cant play on the same network lol

  • I have this game its soooo fun but its kinda hard. Oh and I love your reviews CGRHD :)

  • i have just about every version of outrun ever made, but i never owned this one, as i never had a master system. still, for it's time, it truely is a exelent game.

  • Hey, don't rain hate down the graphics by the bygone age. Games aren't built completely on graphics.
