You have a great voice friend, but I think you could have gotten away with standard tuning or Eb with how high your voice is. To me it sounds like you are all the way in D. Keep up the good work : )
@mattandhisguitar wow, honestly, it's been so long i can't exactly recall.. :/ i think it was a full step or 1 1/2 steps down. i've since come to prefer using just a half step. no weird tuning though. just standard transposed down. thanks for watching!
@njdevs57 it's an amazing song for sure. have you heard josh ritter's original version? leaps and bounds better than my take, but i guess that's to be expected haha
I usually play it in F. Since I'm a woman, it's a much better pitch. However, it alters the picking significantly; it took a bit before I could play it with any kind of finesse.
@13HourClock thanks for commenting :) yea, it is a tough song for sure.. i kind of cringe when i hear this version now, cause i've had so much time to work it out and get more comfortable playing it. but hey, it's music, it's supposed to be a life-long learning experience i guess. so do you have a recording of your version i could hear sometime?
Thank you so much! I wish I learned it from Josh, that would be amazing hah
It's C# F# B E G# C# (1 and 1/2 steps down) I think.. I can't remember for sure what I used in the video and unfortunately I don't have my guitar handy to check :/ I did the video a while ago when I first learned it and have since decided I think it sounds better for my vocal range just 1/2 step down though.
Unbelievable. Simply unbelievable. Five stars in every notion of the video. Your guitar playing is spectacular, but everything in this video is so subtle and so quaint, it really maintains the brilliance of the original song. As good as Ritter's version, in short.
Wow, thank you so much, that's really flattering. I always feel like I play it better now than when I recorded this video, so it's really encouraging to hear when someone can appreciate this take as well. Thanks again!
Dude, this cover was so well performed that it actually inspired me to check out your band on myspace. Some of the freshest, most encouraging music I've heard from an upcoming band in quite some time. "At Your Door" is such an awesome song with one of the best crescendos I've heard (after the final chorus). I've been telling everyone I can about your band, and I hope your music flourishes in the near future! Keep up the good work, my dude!
Man, thanks so much for checking us out and telling your friends, that means the world to us. And I'm glad you liked At Your Door, thanks for the compliments :)
We have two brand new songs recorded and just about ready to post. I'll let you know when they're up in you're interested in checking them out. Take care for now!
best cover of the song i've heard, playing was perfect, vocals were good but too soft, but its not like u were in a studio so what can u do. overall it was great
I'm hoping to get something written up soon. Transcribing my exact picking pattern would be a little difficult, but I could write up the chords and tuning at least. I'll let you know once it's done.
Thank you! Well, part of it is transcribed and part (tuning, and some of the chord changes) came from a tab. Not sure how accurate my version technically is, but it seems to work ok I think. I'm eventually going to finish puttng a tab together of what I did. I'll post it here when I do.

I know absolutely nothing about guitar but this has to be one of the most intricate and beautifully sounding pieces I've ever heard.

btw, great job, man. You hit it, spot on, it's like you learned it from Josh himself!

I would love to learn how to play this, and I'm sure lots of other people would to.
You should put the tabs on a site somewhere.

Dude, the guitar work is radical. Did you transcribe this yourself or find some accurate tab?
I've looked. :)
