ill tell you exactly what it is... its your 1st gear synchronizer. each gear has its own synchro, and over time the synchro's wear out making hard noisy shifts. sometimes grinding in between gears. what you have is an about to fail synchro. its still working, but its obviously worn out. labor charges will kill you my friend...
This is due to the fact that you are not stopping completely before you put the car into first. In a car with a manual transmission you should not be putting the car into first above 10MPH. All cars will make a similar sound if you attempt to do this. Hope my advise helps!

sounds like something is rubbing. Probably the Transmission oil is low or something, when's the last time you had your transmission serviced?
