Clearly Patti has shown to have the better Technique because of her ability to sustain notes in the upper register with ease. Aretha has shown more musicianship, but it doesn't mean they both don't ave both things, it means they have not shown it yet.

Sometimes legends in/of something are just automatically superior to their new skool counterparts --- this is one of those times. I'm not saying that team two does not have immense talent in it, because that would be obviously untrue, but when you make a fifth octave belting battle YouTube video asking for opinions on who the victors are, and you put Aretha/Chaka/Patti on the SAME team, that team are going to win the damn battle LOL. :P

You should have added Rachelle Ferrell, Twinkie Clark & Lashun pace in this vocal compilation. I say Patti & then Chaka, sheer vocal projection & powerhouses to be under the hieght of 5'5...small body but gigantic instruments.

Have to say this is a great compilation but seriously, holding notes is a gift that Chaka and Patti has over evryone else and there is so much spirit in Patti's note , each note seem have a story all on it's own. Jennifer is really getting good, really impressed with her I'd like a screaming match with her, I know I could beat her. Love ya Jennifer LOL

Chaka is the best out of this bunch. Of course all of these are great singers. Aretha was a better singer in her younger days. Chaka is the only contralto in this group. That lady can cross any genre and is not simply gospel or r&b.. This comparison on reveals half her voice.

You couldnt possibly find a Patti B5? She hits it on many occasions lots of them on videos on YouTube. Im Sure has belted C6 with a D6 Head voice...Do some more research buddy...

Aretha is a Musician, Patti is the instrument.. That makes a difference Patti is the musician to her self. I love the rest of the ladies. But I have to be honest. Listening to Patti Labelle is the best thing. I like her character how she can utilize her vocals in the vocal acrobatics way. I love that about her. Patti can hit high low, modulate in songs well. Harmonize, Belt, Listen aretha is a Queen, But Patti is (God) Mother of Soul and R&B...

After long thoughts and analysis of "the voices" my choices are:

Patti, Aretha, Chaka, Fantasia, Lesdi, Jennifer Hudson

Patti should have been the queen of soul but Aretha is more of a craftier in her music. She should have been the queen of something else

Chaka is in her own lane. More Jazzy with the things she could do with her voice

Fantasia is verrry talented and versatile...Plus i can hear the raw passion and feeling through her singing..She's the Queen of R&B/Soul.....Lesdi is bad..nice

Patti is second to Ree, but she's not the craftsman Aretha is, and her sound is thinner...and her vibrato not as even. Chaka's too thin. The rest....yeah...Ledisi has the best tone and control of the young'ins.

Aretha and Patti have the best techniques. Chaka and Ledisi are good as well, though Chaka tends to get a lil throaty as she ascends. Amazing singer, though.

Jennifer has good moments in the mid-belting, but anything above E5 is a struggle for her. Not interested in the other lady.

Aretha wins overall.

@DJAlmond123 It's not a matter of agree to disagree. Jennifer's emission above E5 is a tiny strained mess. High larynx, throaty emission, wobbly vibrato, uneven mixing. You will deal.

@DJAlmond123 The A5s you've mentioned are thin and strained as fuck. The fact she can hold them doesn't make them powerful, and same goes for that tiny C6 at the Grammys. The B5 doesn't seem very strained, but it has a screamy quality and it's not very resonant. She is improving, but her mixing is flawed, as well as her vibrato which is very wobbly.
