Here in Michigan you have 60 seconds, matter of the fact is announcing everything you do or they will fail you. If you just do it they fail you. If you don't complete dressing and say everything you pass.
dude you dont have to be pro to go under one minute.. every explorer at the station goes average 50 seconds without much experience at all. some get 40
Surely during your training you were taught to over exaggerate and dramatize your drills so that when a State / Commission board comes to certify you that you don't lose all your hard work because you forgot to verbalize your tank pressure.
Its a drill, if you didnt recognize that either by the video or its TITLE, how competent are you to make it back out of a job that you are John Wayne'ing. Eh , Hero?
I believe the "rookie" here to be the one that would go in without his partner who may still be putting on his airpak. As for the time it took, please take note that there was a verbalization of the steps he just went through (after they were completed).
By the way FF Jovan...well done. It seems you are taking the possiblity of becoming a firefighter seriously as dictated by the professionalism you displayed during a "drill", so I wish you luck in your endeavor.
notice how it says DRILL at the top. plus to add the fact that they are at teh FIRE ACADEMY which means they are learning how to do this. which means they arent a cocky pro like you are...
I'm sorry, but that was slow. Here in Mississippi we have to go from no gear to donning full PPE and SCBA in UNDER 2 mins. So we cant take a min and 30 seconds to get just the SCBA on. And even though we have to do it fast it has to be all done correctly. If there is anything wrong with our gear after we put it on we fail.
You're right, this was slow. In fact, i would even say that i took my sweet time on this one. The state only requires that we don our SCBA in under 1:45 and that's exactly what i did. I wish they would drill us to don full PPE and SCBA but unfortunately, they dont. Also, this is a fire academy at a college, not for a hiring process in a department. In South Florida, each department has their own academy that they put you through once you are hired which are tougher than the one pictured above.
you dont don your bottle over the head method without a helmet my man..... thats required in my academy.
-cheers

@psp310 it is a 10 second seal check, the arm motion is just an easy way to count the seconds, thus the paced in and out motion.

Did you just wait 10 seconds to take a breath then you put the tank on?
RBFF123 3 years ago
lafd standard - 60 seconds or operational failure.....
lafd "realtime" standard. 40 or less with survivair panther.
thats the standard for the drill tower... when we learned it.

i see. well hey, as long as you know how to properly get all of your gear on in a reasonable amount of time thats all that matters.
kevin346 4 years ago
so are you going to post a video of yourself doning full PPE and SCBA in under 2 minutes? or just talk about it? ha!
jovanblineau 4 years ago
@jovanblineau I just did that yesterday, 1:25. But I didnt say anything, just put the clothes on.
