you guys should be happy the fact that we have found a black teacher who are willing to teach our kids how to speak the english lenguage properly , stop this enmity and be delightful for him.
i remember when your parents & older people would correct you when you said lookded, likeded, seent and axed. but then again that was in the 80s when we still had the village raising the children concept somewhat. now if you correct someones kid the parent would curse you out after the kid cursed you out. slang spoken at home is to be expected but turn it off like a light switch when you get into the real world because i havent seen any successfull t.v newscasters saying seent, lookded or likeded.
I do agree that a person's speech is part of their culture, but a person speaking like that does not sound educated. Learning acceptable English starts as a child, and a lot of parents are dropping the ball. It is perfectly acceptable when someone has a different accent, but not when a person totally messes up the grammar of English.
Bravo! Glad they included examples of white people using double negatives!!!! I hear white people speaking incorrectly ALL THE TIME! When I was growing up there was so little time spent on grammar in school. When I moved to France, it was crazy - if you speak with poor grammar, even strangers will correct you, and they mean it to be nice. Language is such a powerful tool - we all need to respect it and learn how to use it well.
I grew up in Oakland and always pronounced ask as AXE because that is the way one of my elementary teacher's taught us to pronounce it. I didn't know I was pronouncing it incorrectly until I was in college! I had to say the word a hundred times until I got it right. I still have to make sure I say Asked instead of Axed!
I didn't even know both r's in February are pronounced! It's Fe-brew-airy!
There should be more teachers like him. Unfortunately, the people, the community and the culture where these children develop are powerful influences that will hinder most of these kids from learning proper diction, grammar and vocabulary (and many other critical) skills.
Right or wrong, you are judged by the way you speak.
this is great :] people really need this seriously they downgrade the black community on one of the things because of how they speak and write when no one teaches them any better :] I'm all for it
wow, this supposed "educator" has made grammar mistakes himself, "...the kuh sound comes at the eeinnnd." it's end, not einnd, he puts too much emphasis on the "en" part and stresses the "n" part for too long. And also "talk proper english?" It's "speak" proper english.
@lilslant okay I will tell you what. how about you go teach some classes the correct way? no? shut the fuck up and let someone do something positive for the people.
@lilslant I love it how when someone is trying to help other people there's always an idiot who knows better. Of course, I'm being sarcastic. I hate it.
I learn english with american and british series, thank you Bill Cosby and others actors, they are better than Berlitz (useful but artificial) and all methods to progress.
another thing- there are really don't know how to say: "I don't have any money"
or "He doesn't have" instead of "He don't have"
damn, I thought black people just use aint' as a slang word, it's a shock for me that this is realy the situation in the US, I'm live way far from the US, and I think that my english is not so good at all, but this is hilarious! (wich is an hard word for me to spell right) :)
It's not just black people anymore, look at all those ganster gangster white guys out there that some how think they are black? One day they sound normal next day it's all slang. People are picking it up left and right. It about time some one adressed this issue!!!!!! GOOD WORK!!
Good for this guy...and Bill Cosby. One thing I've wondered though...at the end the kid says that they just didn't know how to speak English properl because no one in his community knew how - what about TV? Surely some of these kids watch TV...(although perhaps it's just rap videos, and not the evening news I guess)...
Its offending people? He's teaching blacks to talk right. Lots dont speak proper english, or even reconizable. Just go into the cafeteria at any college
@andruchina Yes, I would if they would have more educational programs instead of idiotic, useless shows brainwashing them. I came from Europe where TV was educational not only entertaining. I was shocked how stupifying american and canadian TV can be.I feel sorry for the kids. They are being purposefully stupified! Do educate yourself. Libraries are free of charge. Do not count on the GOV. Their objective is to make us docile, stupid so we do not ask for our rights.
Ne-one should be offended bi bein taught hoo te promounce words as they should soond ...As a proud Geordie frem England Ah speak a dialect of English tha is different frem normal English, hooevah , Aa'd not gan fre a job interview an taak in me Geordie accent. Unless Ah wer speekin te anuther Geordie Ov corse:P
We also need to teach people how to properly spell English words.
